Communication is the key to a positive partnership between the Glen Loch staff and our Gator families. We want to make you aware of a small change in how we relay information regarding behaviors that occur at school — specifically behaviors in the classroom that may impede your child’s learning or the learning of others.
Instead of writing notes in the daily folder, we will now contact you by phone. This will allow us to have a conversation about the behavior and work together to find solutions that help prevent the behavior from continuing.
Thank you for your support and partnership!
Best,
Kris Smith

WHAT IS IT?
Penny Wars is a fundraiser where teams compete for the most points. Students/families bring in pennies, or other coins, dollars bills or checks to place in their grade level team jar. We've also added a Star Wars spin because....it's Star Wars, do we really need a reason??
HOW IT WORKS/RULES:
Students are divided into grade-level teams and each assigned a collection jar. Jars will be located in the library 7:25AM-7:55AM JAN 28TH, JAN 29TH, and JAN 30th
- Please make checks payable to Glen Loch PTO.
- The money in each grade level jar will be counted daily and the points tallied.
- Point standings will be announced on our Glen Loch PTO website & Facebook page nightly and announced during morning announcements: Jan 29th and 30th.
Winning Grade announced at the student pep rally on January 30th
The grade-level team with the most points at the end of the week wins a PAJAMA DAY on Friday February 6.
ACADEMIC CONNECTIONS
1. Students learn to differentiate coin value.
2. Students practice counting money.
3. Builds classroom and grade level camaraderie.
PRACTICE AT HOME
1. Practice identifying money values and counting money. Older students can practice converting money to Penny War points.
2. Have your child total the points that they are planning to donate to their classroom jar. Review the end of day tally sheet to see how many of the total points they contributed.

Student Attendance Expectations
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for your child's academic growth, starting from preschool and kindergarten.
Missing just 10% of school (about 2 days a month) can cause students to fall behind, particularly in key areas like reading.
Missing one or two days every few weeks can quickly add up and make it harder to catch up on missed material.
Being late or leaving early also disrupts the learning process and negatively impacts overall attendance.
When students are absent, teachers may need to slow down the pace to help catch them up, which can affect the entire class.
By prioritizing consistent attendance, you’re giving your child the best chance to thrive academically and stay on track throughout the school year.
Counselor's Corner
THANK YOU to all who have donated to the Montgomery County Animal Services! We will continue to take donations through January 30th.
"Great work from our 3rd and 4th graders this week! They’ve been learning ways to handle conflicts in positive, healthy ways. More lessons to come next week!"

We would like to inform you that Conroe ISD Child Nutrition will be introducing Pollock Fish Wedges and Fish Stick Baskets for all grade levels, starting Wednesday, February 18, 2026. These menu items will be available monthly until the end of the school year.
To ensure your student's safety, it is important to avoid sharing food. Sharing can lead to health risks, such as cross-contamination and the spread of germs. Additionally, it can violate school rules designed to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all students.
We kindly ask that you remind your student of the importance of not sharing food items while on campus.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Cough Drops & Lozenges are not allowed to be carried on person while on campus. If the student is in need of cough drops, CISD requires that they be checked into the clinic as they are considered medication.
COVER YOUR COUGH AND WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN!
You play an important role in safe food handling practices at home. Typical symptoms of foodborne illness, also known as food poisoning, are vomiting, diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms, which can start anywhere from hours to days after contaminated food or drinks are consumed.
The symptoms usually are not long-lasting in healthy people — a few hours or a few days — and usually go away without medical treatment. But foodborne illness can be severe and even life-threatening to anyone, especially those most at risk:
- older adults
- infants and young children
- pregnant women
- people with diabetes, HIV/AIDS, cancer, or any condition that weakens their immune system
- people who take medicines that suppress the immune system; for example, some medicines for lupus, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis
Combating bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other contaminants in our food supply is a high priority for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The good news is that practicing four basic food safety measures can help prevent foodborne illness.
Texas law requires that children receive vision and hearing screenings at certain points in their school years:
Kindergarten and preschool children must receive a vision screening at the start of kindergarten or preschool.
1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades:
Children must receive a vision screening at some point during the school year.
First-time entrants:
Children who are new to school must receive a vision and hearing screening within 120 days of starting school.
These screenings are required for children enrolled in public, private, parochial, or denominational schools, as well as licensed childcare facilities for children ages 4 and up. The screenings are free for families and are performed in the school setting.
If a problem is detected during a screening, the child will be referred to an eye care professional for a more thorough exam.
If you have any questions, please call the nurse at 281-298-4915.

I am Andy Salmon, the percussion director at The Woodlands HS. We are having a drum camp for kids from 1st-8th grade at the Woodlands HS on Saturday, Feb. 7th. We try to make it FUN and enjoyable for the kids as they learn basics of rhythm and music.
