Pine Grove Learning Center
March 2026
Note from the Principal
Dear Families and Caregivers,
As we are well into March, we continue to see meaningful growth across our classrooms academically, socially, and in independence.
Our work at Pine Grove remains grounded in each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and the Lincoln Pines Curriculum (a curriculum connected to MI Alternate standards)
Our strong focus is on meeting each student exactly where they are, while intentionally and supportively building their next skills.
Instruction is intentionally scaffolded so all students can access grade-level content through multiple entry points, allowing for both participation and progress toward greater independence.
Here is a glimpse of what this may look like in classrooms:
Literacy and Communication-
All students are engaging with stories. Some students use adapted books with voice activated buttons that connect with the story. Each student is continuing to build communication in ways that are meaningful for them whether that is responding to teacher models on the classroom AAC, verbally responding, or using their own devices. I have learned about what colors, food and interests our students have by listening to them as they communicate through their devices or visual icons.
Math-
We are using hands-on experiences to strengthen problem-solving skills.
Adaptive Behavior-
Classrooms are continuing to learn and practice skills like waiting, following directions, completing tasks, and interacting with peers and adults. These are critical and foundational skills that support success across all environments.
Daily Living and Independence-
We are intentionally building independence through routines, transitions, and participation in both classroom, community-based activities, and activities with our local districts. Many of our students practice movement with supportive equipment each day which helps increase independence.
IEP Progress Notes Coming Soon!
Your students IEP drives our Specially Designed Instruction and the goals identified in your student's IEP are worked on daily.
On or shortly after March 20, 2026, you will receive progress notes. These are an important way for us to communicate how your student is growing within their IEP goals. They are usually sent home through your student's backpack however please reach out to your student's teacher if you would like to receive them in another way.
We truly celebrate all growth whether big and small because each step forward reflects increased independence and confidence!
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We are proud of the work happening each day and look forward to a strong finish to the school year together.

Unified Champions
Last month we were able to go on a couple of different trips with our local school friends with Unified Champions! Some of our younger students went bowling with Byron Center and some of our high school students went to Grandville High School for another LINKS Lunch visit! Our Pine Grove Friends love their time spent with their friends at local schools and we love the inclusion opportunities these events provide.

Mary Free Bed also wants to thank you all for everyone who has made generous orthotic donations. They were used to support children in need in Jamaica. We will continue to collect throughout the school in preparation for MFBs future trips.
