Annual Giving 2025-2026 Begins!
The Siskiyou School is proud to launch our Annual Giving Campaign with a goal of raising $140,000 between October and January. Celebrating “20 Years Rooted in Community, Growing in Love,” this milestone year honors two decades of nurturing children, welcoming families, and inspiring education. Like most nonprofits, the school relies on Annual Giving to bridge the gap between tuition and the true cost of education, about $1,000 per student, supporting essentials such as classroom supplies, teacher salaries, and professional development. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps sustain the vibrant life of the school, and 100% family participation demonstrates the unity and strength of the community. Together, we can celebrate this 20th anniversary by ensuring that the Siskiyou School continues to grow in love and learning for generations to come!

Halloween Details
This festival is one of our favorite ones at school! We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 31, with our traditional in-house assembly here at school. We will have a half day and dismiss per our half day dismissal schedule. The early dismissal will give families a little time before going to the Ashland Halloween parade. Here at school, the children come dressed in costumes and we celebrate with music, pumpkins and a parade around the campus.
Costume guidelines: When we think of getting dressed up, let’s ensure that we are thoughtful about the costumes we choose to wear to school. We want to be mindful that all students will feel safe and honored.
- Be creative and keep in mind we have young ones on campus.
- Please no scary costumes, blood, or weapons. Just bring fun.
- Reminder!! It is important that we can identify students and see their faces. Please, no masks.
- NO CANDY is to be brought to school on or after Halloween.
- If you’re not sure if your child’s costume will “work”, please check in with their class teacher before Halloween.
Aside from these guidelines, please talk with your student to make sure that the costume that they have selected does not portray a stereotyped image of a culture or group of people. In addition, please help students make sure that their costume is not offensive to any racial, ethnic or religious group, or any people with disabilities or illnesses. While students might choose to dress as a famous person or character who’s identity is different than their own, please reinforce the importance of not darkening skin or using makeup to change a child’s skin color to match the person who they are dressing up to be. Students are often unaware of the long history these traditions have and that it can be hurtful to those people.
We look forward to celebrating with all of the students on Halloween and appreciate your help in making sure that it is a fun day for everyone. If you have any questions at all regarding this day, please feel free to reach out.

Oregon Battle of the Books
THE BATTLE IS ON! Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is coming back to The Siskiyou School! OBOB is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries and Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in grades 3-8, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students. Students will form teams, read at least 4 books (up to 16) and compete in battles with the support of a parent coach. Reading, team meetings, and battles will occur outside of school hours.
To learn more about OBOB please view their website at www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org or reach out to Amy Bull at amy.bull@siskiyouschool.com, and keep an eye out for the student permission slips along with more detailed information.
Parent Coaches are needed! We need awesome adults to help lead the teams, please let Amy know if you'd like to help with this amazing program!
World Language - Mandarin
There are so many wonderful benefits to learning a second language, which are worth reflecting on. Mandarin Chinese is spoken by over a billion people around the world, about one fifth of the global population. The benefits of learning Mandarin Chinese extend far beyond just language acquisition. By delving into the language, you gain access to a fascinating world of art, literature, history, and cultural traditions; even its delicious cuisine! The ability to communicate with native speakers on a deeper level fosters meaningful connections and cross-cultural understanding. It can also give one a glimpse into Chinese philosophy and thinking concerning important traditional values such as harmony, benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, honesty, loyalty and filial piety, all of which are embodied in people’s way of life. Written Chinese is one of the oldest continuously used writing systems dating back more than 3000 years. Chinese characters, known as Hanzi (汉字), made up of pictographs and ideographs, form the basis of Chinese writing and differ from the alphabet systems used in English and other European derived languages.
From the 1st to 3rd grade, all learning occurs within an oral context through songs, poems, tongue twisters, games, activities that involve rhythm, and situational dialogues. The children feel, act, and live every aspect of this in a spontaneous, playful and lively way. The First graders learn how to count, name colors and parts of the body, sing songs and rhymes. The Second to Fifth graders review and learn new poems, songs and tongue twisters. In fourth and Fifth grade the children learn to write simplified Chinese characters that are used throughout China.
It’s an honor to share this language and cultural tradition and journey with your children.
