Roosevelt Report
February 22, 2026
Principal Points
Dear Roosevelt Families,
At Roosevelt Elementary, our mission is at the heart of everything we do: to educate, challenge, and inspire every student to achieve personal success and become confident contributors to society. You may see this mission shared often, but we want to take a moment to explain what it truly means for your child—each and every day.
Educate
Educating our students means more than teaching reading, writing, and math. It means helping children develop strong thinking skills, curiosity, and a love for learning. Our teachers use engaging lessons, small-group instruction, and real-world connections so students not only learn content, but understand how to learn. We want students to ask questions, explore ideas, and feel proud of their growth.
Challenge
We believe all students grow when they are appropriately challenged. This looks like encouraging students to try hard things, persevere through mistakes, and engage in productive struggle. When learning feels challenging, students are building resilience, problem-solving skills, and confidence. At Roosevelt, we celebrate effort just as much as achievement—because growth happens when students stretch themselves.
Inspire
Inspiration comes from feeling seen, valued, and capable. Our staff works intentionally to build strong relationships, recognize student strengths, and create joyful moments that make school a place children want to be. Whether it’s earning a Pawsome Ticket for being respectful, responsible, or safe, being recognized at an assembly, or hearing encouraging words from a teacher, we strive to inspire students to believe in themselves.
Confident Contributors to Society
When we talk about students becoming confident contributors, we mean children who can communicate their ideas, show kindness, take responsibility, and work well with others.this looks like students who feel comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions, and trying new things—even when they’re not sure of the answer. It means learning how to work with others, take turns, listen respectfully, and solve problems together. It also includes understanding responsibility, showing empathy, and making choices that help the whole community. These skills help prepare them not just for the next grade—but for life beyond our school walls.
We are proud of the growth we see every day and grateful for the opportunity to educate, challenge, and inspire your children.
With Tiger Pride,
Mrs. Samouelian

FEBRUARY CHARACTER TRAIT
FAMILY GAME NIGHTS - Confidence Builders
Charades (or Kids’ Charades)
Builds: confidence using your body, taking risks, laughing at mistakes
Why it works:
Kids practice being seen, being silly, and not worrying about being “right.”
Confidence talk:
-
“You tried something new!”
-
“You didn’t quit even when it felt awkward.”
Guess Who?
Builds: confidence in asking questions and using strategies
Why it works:
Children learn that good questions—not fast answers—lead to success.
Confidence talk:
-
“That was a smart question.”
-
“You changed your plan—that’s confidence.”
Pictionary (or Draw & Guess)
Builds: confidence in creativity and imperfect work
Why it works:
There’s no “good drawing”—just effort and communication.
Confidence talk:
-
“You explained your thinking.”
-
“Your drawing didn’t have to be perfect.”
Bonus: Kids LOVE when adults draw terribly.
UNO
Builds: confidence with turn-taking, handling disappointment, and bouncing back
Why it works:
Winning and losing are part of the game—kids practice emotional regulation.
Confidence talk:
-
“You stayed calm.”
-
“You kept playing even after that card!”
