Before the Bell
Sometimes the best moments at school are the ones no one plans. A few students, a gym, a little school spirit, and suddenly the morning turns into something pretty special. The day hasn’t even started and the pride is already echoing across the field like a tiny stadium.
Love seeing our students step up and create moments like this!
After the Bell
Creativity was in full swing as our After the Bell students spent time crafting with paper, turning simple materials into colorful creations. It’s always great to see their imaginations at work and the pride they take in what they make. Another fun afternoon of learning, creativity, and smiles!
Reunification Drill - Success
Our reunification drill was a success! It was a valuable opportunity for both staff and students to practice and become comfortable with the process. This protocol can be applied in any situation or space, helping us be prepared for a variety of scenarios.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers for helping us learn and refine our procedures. We especially appreciate the students who participated, including those who ran through mock scenarios to ensure everything was up to standard.
We were fortunate to have many silent observers who care deeply about Woburn Public Schools and provided valuable feedback. Thank you also to the Woburn Police and Woburn Fire Department for supporting us through the mock gas leak scenario. A special thank you to the Montvale Congregational Church for generously providing a space to practice the protocol.
Even while practicing this important safety procedure, teaching and learning continued as our incredible staff quickly adapted lessons and kept students engaged in a new space. We are so lucky to have such a creative and flexible group of educators who always put students first.
With the collaboration of our staff, students, volunteers, and community partners, Goodyear is even more prepared to keep our school safe and our students supported.
Boston Bullies Assembly
A big thank you to Ms. Kelley and Ms. Charlotte for organizing this wonderful event for our entire school community. As you know at Goodyear, “Kindness Starts with Me.” We love when students have the opportunity to engage in meaningful social emotional learning experiences.
The Boston Bullies program visited Goodyear to talk with students about bullying prevention, respect, and the importance of standing up for others. Through an engaging and interactive presentation, students learned how their words and actions can make a positive difference in their school community.
Goodyear was lucky to have this important topic shared with our students, and they especially enjoyed the interactive format that encouraged participation and thoughtful conversations. Together, we continue to build a school community where kindness, empathy, and respect lead the way.
Math Interactive Boards - Huge Success
Our interactive math boards are a huge hit! We love seeing students stop in the hallway to start “mathing” with a peer or jump into a problem with their class.
At Goodyear, we are training our students to be true MATH-letes. With practice, teamwork, and a little brainpower workout, our students are strengthening their problem solving skills every day!
Lexia Llama Winners - Ms. Yanofsky & Ms. Bagni's class for the WIN!
Lexia Llama made her trip to visit Ms. Yanofsky’s and Ms. Bagni’s classes after students reached their high Lexia levels. What a great accomplishment! 📚🦙

Riding in Style
💗 Lilly 💗
Kindergarten for the WIN!
Lilly enjoyed spending time in kindergarten today, celebrating their great behavior in the café. The students showed what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe, and Lilly loved recognizing their efforts.
Friday mornings with Lilly have become a much anticipated tradition in our school. Her visits always bring smiles, encouragement, and a little extra motivation to start the day on a positive note.
Lions Level Language - Week 1
Family Challenge?
As part of a whole-school initiative, our ILT team identified a list of high-impact words commonly used in MCAS testing. This sparked a school-wide movement called Lion Level Up Language!
Each week, we focus on two powerful words that are posted and intentionally woven into every area of the building, including gym, grade-level instruction, meetings, and school events. These words are highlighted during our Morning Roar, keeping them front and center across our community.
This week’s words were explain and evidence.
A wonderful family challenge is to weave these words into conversations at home. Encourage your child to explain their thinking and use evidence to support their ideas in everyday discussions.
Are you ready to take on the Lion Level Up Challenge at home?
At Goodyear, we are building students’ academic vocabulary across the school day. Each week we highlight focus words like explain and evidence in classrooms, announcements, and even in the cafeteria. During lunch, students participate in “Think, Chew, and Chat” prompts that encourage them to talk with peers using these words. Seeing and using the words throughout the day helps students build confidence explaining their thinking in all areas of learning.
Happy Staff = Happy Students
Our Goodyear Staff Bake-Off was a delicious success, and congratulations to Ms. Bagni for earning the award for Best Bread with her amazing sourdough pretzel bites! The event showcased so many beautiful and tasty creations from our talented staff, filling the building with wonderful aromas and even better school spirit. What a fun way to celebrate creativity, community, and a little friendly competition.

GOODYEAR SPIRIT WEEK
Book Fair Next Week!
Sensory Play to Start the Day
At Goodyear, we care deeply about transitions, especially when students return after a long break and routines feel a little wobbly.
That is why Ms. Kelley thoughtfully set up a sensory station at the school entrance. Sensory stations can be powerful supports during challenging transitions. They give students a chance to regulate their bodies and emotions before the day begins. Through calming tools such as tactile materials, quiet activities, or simple grounding exercises, students can reset their nervous systems, reduce anxiety, and ease back into structure. Instead of walking straight from vacation mode into academic expectations, they are offered a gentle bridge back into the rhythm of school.
Thank you to Ms. Kelley and Ms. Charlotte for creating such a welcoming space and helping ensure a smooth transition back into school. At Goodyear, we want everyone to start the day feeling grounded, supported, and surrounded by kindness and positivity.
Lilly - Second Grade for the WIN!
Lilly has officially won everyone’s hearts—especially the second graders! Second grades' perfect behavior in the café earned a very special reward: their own personal visit with Lilly.
It’s safe to say Lilly is more famous than anyone I know walking the halls of Goodyear… and she doesn’t even need a microphone or a red carpet! 🐾 Everyone’s hoping for an autograph, but Lilly’s signature move seems to be wagging her tail and spreading joy wherever she goes.
Second graders and staff alike agree—she’s the real VIP (Very Important Pup) of the school!
Creating Connections - Sensory Play
We were thrilled to welcome Creating Connections of Woburn, a local organization located in Woburn, MA, to support some of our selected students. They provided a calm space for a reset and offered strategies to help students manage emotions and build coping skills.
At Goodyear, we are committed to supporting every student in every way, and partnerships like this help us ensure that support is strong and meaningful. We look forward to having Creating Connections of Woburn visit again and continue this important work with our students.

Welcome March!
Our very own Nurse Carlson has sham-rocked her office with festive Irish decorations, turning it into a little corner of green cheer. Clover cutouts, bright rainbows, and a touch of gold at the end of the hallway have given the space a warm and welcoming glow.
And rest assured, there are no shenanigans happening in the office, just kindness, care, and a whole lot of heart. 🍀
The Blizzard Battler of Goodyear
Mr. Mike and our incredible custodial team worked tirelessly to make sure Goodyear was safe and ready for students after the blizzard. Through freezing temperatures, early mornings, and mountains of snow, they shoveled, salted, cleared walkways, and made sure every entrance was safe and welcoming.
At one point, bundled head to toe and dusted in snow, Mr. Mike blended in so well he nearly qualified as the building’s newest snowman. The only difference was that this one came with a shovel and a work ethic that would melt any iceberg.
MCAS DATES: please make every effort to be in school on testing days
The calendar is quietly turning its pages...
Dear Goodyear Caregivers,
MCAS season is approaching, and at Goodyear Elementary School we remain focused on preparing students with confidence and care.
MCAS serves as an important data point to help us identify instructional gaps, understand individual student needs, and strengthen teaching and learning. Results are also used by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for accountability and potential grant funding that supports our schools.
Over the past year, we have thoughtfully expanded interventions to support student growth. We increased enrichment and intervention classes to both close learning gaps and challenge students in Math, ELA, and STE. We piloted the STAR Assessment to better identify student needs and create precise, data driven intervention groups. Our team developed a strengthened Math curriculum map to ensure clear scope and sequence alignment, reinforcing essential skills before and after MCAS. Through our Instructional Leadership Team, we identified targeted focus areas and created a common instructional language to ensure consistency school wide.
We have also built a strong culture of positive preparation, emphasizing student ownership, confidence, and readiness. We increased our focus on attendance and academic engagement, knowing that consistent presence builds knowledge and momentum. School wide goals for Lexia minutes and skill completion promote accountability and growth. Across all grade levels, there is a focused emphasis on solving math word problems, building strategy use, stamina, and deeper thinking.
Students are practicing key test taking strategies such as reading directions carefully, showing their thinking, managing time wisely, and checking their work. Some students have been invited to participate in MCAS Masters and Booster classes. These free, before school sessions are designed to support student growth and build confidence in a small group setting.
Please take note of the upcoming MCAS testing dates for Grades 3–5. - (Practice Tests - https://www.doe.mass.edu/mcas/testitems.html) Attendance is extremely important on these days and always, as consistent attendance directly supports performance and overall achievement.
Most importantly, our K–5 staff is deeply invested in every child’s success. Students are cared for, supported with kindness, and encouraged to do their very best.
Thank you for your continued partnership,
Meg Patrissi - Principal
Amanda Williams - Assistant Principal

We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Matthew Crowley to Goodyear on Tuesday. During his visit, he roamed the hallways and stopped into classrooms, observing teaching and learning in action. Dr. Crowley enjoyed receiving a student-led tutorial on how learners designed a landscaped yard using square footage, integrating the curricular work of STEMscopes and Reveal Math.
Ms. Billings’ classroom showcased her love for hands-on learning, as students were actively engaged and confidently explaining their thinking. Dr. Crowley was impressed across the board by the joyful learning and strong instruction happening at Goodyear each day.
We always appreciate visits from Central Office and it’s especially meaningful when they get to see our students and staff shining.

We love welcoming visitors to Goodyear! We were thrilled to host Mayor Concannon, Dr. Ryan, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Ms. Wetzel from the School Committee, and Ms. Cormier for a walk-through to see the fabulous learning happening throughout our building. A Rose for Every Heart at Goodyear
Mr. Norden and his students brightened the entire building by delivering a rose to every staff member at Goodyear. Such a thoughtful gesture filled the halls with smiles and reminded us that small acts of kindness can bloom into something truly special for everyone.
4th Grade
Goodyear’s 4th graders are diving into equivalent fractions using fraction strips, building understanding piece by colorful piece. By lining up and comparing strips, students are discovering how different fractions can represent the same whole and proving it with confidence.

Spotlight
With vacation week ahead and Valentine’s Day around the corner, we’re excited to highlight three staff members who help make Goodyear such a positive place to learn and grow. Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Shaw, and Ms. Santorelli consistently show care, dedication, and support for our students, helping to create a welcoming environment for all. We are grateful for the impact they have on our school community each day.
Lily's Visit
Lily's Birthday Video
Lily looked especially studious in her glasses, fully embracing her scholarly side as she dug into her birthday cards. She took her job of reading every note very seriously, carefully inspecting each card like a true academic at work.
Goodyear Goodies
Goodyear Goodies just set a record and the bags were flying off the shelves. Students “dropped bags” at the school store and had an absolute blast cashing in their hard work.
Thank you to Ms. Billings for organizing such a fun and rewarding event for our Goodyear crew. The energy was high, the smiles were wide, and the Goodies game was strong.
After the Bell - Paper Crafts!
Ms. Reardon’s and Ms. Yanofsky’s classes earned the Lexia Llama this week!
Way to go for putting in those strong Lexia minutes and rising to the challenge. We love a little friendly competition at Goodyear, especially when it fuels learning and growth. Keep it up!
Ms. Doherty's - StemScopes - Rock Layers
In Ms. Doherty's class, students are learning how to use rock layers to uncover the story of the past. By studying how layers form and what fossils or materials are found within them, students can determine which events happened first and how the Earth has changed over time. Like pages in a history book written in stone, each layer helps us piece together Earth’s incredible timeline.
Lily went viral...
Lily may not have snagged the Super Bowl trophy with her adorable prediction face front and center — but she still stole more hearts than the Patriots stole first-down conversions this time around.
Lily might not have predicted the exact outcome, but her cuteness definitely forecasted one thing right: everyone’s attention was on her long before the Lombardi trophy made its flight.

Data Meetings!
At the heart of Goodyear’s progress is the dedicated Content Team, led by Assistant Principal Amanda Williams and comprised of Ms. Ross, Ms. Pappagianopoulos, and Ms. Emily Shaw. During middle-of-year data meetings, the team partners with classroom teachers, interventionists, special educators, and multilingual staff to analyze student growth, identify trends, and adjust instruction with precision. This year, math planning around the new Reveal curriculum has been an important addition, strengthening alignment and deepening instructional practices across grade levels. These collaborative efforts ensure W.I.N. block supports remain targeted and responsive. We just keep moving forward.

Student Interview
This week we had the joy of interviewing Isabella, a first grade author whose excitement for writing is truly contagious. Her latest story is all about bunnies, her favorite animal. Isabella shared that she chose this topic because she already knew a lot about bunnies and was excited to learn even more as she wrote. That curiosity is what great authors are made of.
When we asked what she plans to write next, Isabella smiled and said cats. She told us that sometimes she likes to act like a cat and she has seen real ones too. During our recent snow day, Isabella enjoyed watching Lego Friends The Next Chapter and spent time creating with her new Hello Kitty Lite Brite. She is carefully working on one picture and taking her time to make it just right.
Isabella loves both writing and illustrating her stories. When asked how many stories she has written this year, her answer made us smile. There are too many to count. She has written lots of stories including weekend news pieces. Isabella also reflected on how much she has grown as a writer. At the beginning of the year she did not know how to write everything she wanted to say, and now she has figured out how to spell words and share her ideas with confidence.
Her advice for other authors says it all. She helps friends who need it and never laughs at them. What a wonderful role model. If you ever need help with writing or want some inspiration, just visit Isabella in Ms. Hardy’s classroom. She is always happy to help.
We are so proud of you, Isabella. Keep dreaming, writing, and sharing your stories with the world ✨📚
Reunification Staff Practice - we love those littles
Community Collaboration - Montvale Congregational Church & Goodyear
iLoveUGuys Training and Reunification Planning
We always want our little ones to feel safe, supported, and cared for. As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, our staff participated in iLoveUGuys training and took a deep dive into our reunification protocol.
We are grateful to Montvale Congregational Church, and Ms. Ruth Garipy-Layfayette, for opening their doors and allowing our staff to review the building as part of this important planning. If we ever needed to relocate from Goodyear and reunite families, we have a clear plan in place. Preparation matters, and we take it seriously.
Our staff were absolute rockstars, wearing their badges and vests and stepping into one of the most important roles there is: reuniting students with their families. Mr. Chris and his team reviewed building needs, while Ms. Anna was ready to set up our remote Wi-Fi command center.
We are fortunate to be part of a district that prioritizes safety and ensures our schools are prepared to care for students in every situation.

Student Spotlight: Mystery Science
After learning about the Amazon through Mystery Science, Tonny Mendoza was inspired to share his enthusiasm with our PTO. He highlighted how engaging the program is for students, with short, thoughtful videos, hands-on activities, and mini lessons across a variety of science topics that encourage curiosity and critical thinking. Tonny’s passion for learning and advocacy for enriching classroom resources truly shows the power of student voice at Goodyear.
Tonny's Letter
Dear Ms. Patrissi and PTO,
Do you remember when I made a note about if we could do a field trip to the Amazon? Well I asked because I learned about it from mystery science. I think we should make a purchase of a membership for the school. In my opinion, it's enjoyable because it has videos and it has activities and it gives us mini lessons each time. It has a lot of different subjects and the videos aren’t too long but not too short either, and during the videos it makes you think.
Now you know why I think you should buy mystery science for the school. The slides will tell you more about mystery science.
From Tonny Mendoza
Special Thanks to Ms. Lia, Ms.Kim & Mr.Jay for inspiring their students
Crossing Guard Appreciation Day
We celebrate our amazing crossing guards, John and Joe, truly the best in the city. They are true community members who take such great care of our students by keeping crosswalks clear, spreading ice melt when needed, and always showing up with care and reliability. We especially loved when John dressed as Santa for our Winter Festival! Thank you to our students for recognizing John and Joe with thoughtful cards of appreciation. We are so grateful for them and for our Goodyear community.

It has been so exciting to see our students engaged, growing, and celebrating their reading successes each day!
WPS - Global Play Day
Goodyear proudly joined WPS elementary schools in celebrating Global Play Day. This special day focused on safe, unstructured play in classrooms, giving students time to collaborate, create, problem-solve, and simply enjoy being kids. Students brought in games from home and shared joyful moments with classmates, while still participating in their regularly scheduled recesses, lunches, services, and specialist classes. It was wonderful to see play, imagination, and community take center stage across the school.
February Character Trait Assembly
Students and staff gathered for our Fairness Assembly to celebrate positive character and community values. The assembly opened with music and a welcome from the principal, highlighting the importance of fairness. Students across grade levels were recognized for demonstrating fairness, with homeroom teachers sharing thoughtful reflections about each student. We were especially proud to have our own Nurse, Ms. Silva, introduce February’s character trait, Caring. As someone who cares for our students each and every day, she was the perfect person to launch this month’s focus. We also celebrated specialist award recipients, shared a big Lion ROAR of school spirit, and wrapped up the assembly with smiles and pride in our Goodyear community.
Project Valentine
Students decorated Valentine’s Day cards for Project Valentine, spreading kindness to seniors in nursing homes through heartfelt, handmade messages. 💗
Making Math Part of Our Culture at Goodyear
Emily Shaw, Content Specialist at Goodyear, is helping make math part of our everyday culture. She has created interactive math bulletin boards that invite students to engage as they move through the building. Strategically placed at natural stopping points, these boards give teachers easy opportunities to spark math conversations while waiting for other classes to pass. At Goodyear, we are building confidence, curiosity, and a community of math people.
Ms. Billings Class; learning area and creating backyard landscapes
Ms. Williams: Leading the charge, moving the learning needle forward.
Goodyear is incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Williams as our Assistant Principal. With a deep and wide knowledge of curriculum and a strong background in elementary coaching, she is a steady, thoughtful leader who brings both expertise and heart to her work. At the center of everything she does is one clear purpose: supporting student learning. From the moment she starts her day, Ms. Williams is thinking about what students need to grow and thrive.
Ms. Williams has a remarkable ability to notice the little things that make a big difference. She carries a true toolbox of interventions, always ready with strategies to support students, teachers, and teams. A true “Jane of all trades,” she seamlessly balances coaching, problem-solving, and leadership, all while keeping kids at the forefront of every decision.
We are especially grateful for her leadership in guiding our data work. Her mid-year data meetings were thoughtful, reflective, and purposeful, leaving teams with clear action steps and a shared sense of direction. Ms. Williams leads with kindness, care, and an unwavering commitment to doing what is best for students, and Goodyear is stronger because of her.
Lilly's Visit - Happy Birthday - 5 YEARS OLD
Lilly, Goodyear’s beloved therapy dog, turned 5 today! 🐾 We are so lucky to have her. She brings calm, comfort, and peace to so many of our students and staff. Goodyear celebrated in style with cupcakes cards and dog treats. Kindergarteners filled their bowls with good behavior and are looking forward to enjoying their Friday visit with Lilly. We wish her many more years of love and peace at Goodyear.

Contest-Connected
Goodyear Spreads Kindness Through Art
Ms. Kelley, our school adjustment counselor, and Ms. Hanna, our art teacher, recently collaborated around a shared and powerful focus: Kindness. As we proudly say at Goodyear, Kindness Starts With Me, and this partnership brought that message to life in a meaningful way.
Together, they entered Goodyear into the Massachusetts Partnerships for Youth Poster and Public Service Announcement Contest, spearheading a beautiful display now featured in our hallways. The display highlights student-created self-portraits that celebrate kindness, reflection, and self-expression. This vibrant installation not only showcases our students’ artistic talents, but also serves as a daily reminder of the importance of compassion toward ourselves and others.
This year’s contest theme is “Kind People Are the Best Kind of People.” Through small, thoughtful gestures and creative expression, our students are helping build a more caring and connected world. We are incredibly proud of Ms. Kelley, Ms. Hanna, and our Goodyear students for leading with heart and showing that kind people truly are the best kind of people.

Ms. Cara’s class celebrated in style with a Silly Sock and Popcorn Party after earning 1st place in fundraising for the Turkey Trot! Way to go, champions!
Ms. Christina is a social worker at Goodyear. She worked closely with a student who, as they prepared to leave Goodyear, created and shared this beautiful piece of artwork from their class.
Students are jumping into action using number paths to build strong addition and subtraction skills. Learning is active, hands-on, and full of math momentum!
Happy Staff = Happy Kids
Goodyear staff members Ms. Doherty and Ms. Billings are big Bruins fans, and apparently they can’t get enough of each other during the school week either. After working side by side in the same hallway for more than 15 years, they took their Goodyear connection beyond the building and met up at a Bruins game. It’s a great reminder that the positive relationships formed at Goodyear extend both inside and outside of school. This year’s game added extra excitement, with the Bruins pulling off a nail-biting comeback, rallying from a 2–0 deficit to defeat the Canadiens 4–3. This marks the fourth year of Ms. Billings’ and Ms. Doherty’s annual Bruins tradition, and with a win like that, it’s easy to see why they keep it going.
4th Grade Wins Lilly this Week!
Lilly is truly part of the fabric of the Goodyear community. Through our incentive programs, she helps motivate students to rise to the occasion each and every day in the cafeteria, turning positive choices into moments worth celebrating. Beyond incentives, Lilly plays a special role in supporting students who may be struggling with transitions, experiencing grief, or simply needing a calm, furry hand to hold. Her presence brings comfort, connection, and plenty of smiles.
As Lilly would say, “I may not understand math, but I’m excellent at listening."
Congratulations to our 4th grade, who were the cream of the crop this week! Way to lead with kindness, responsibility, and school pride.
Goodyear PawPals
Goodyear PawPals: Where Students and Service Dogs Connect
We hope everyone enjoyed the snow days! While winter weather kept us busy, we were also hard at work creating an exciting new program for Goodyear. In collaboration with Paul and Lily, and with the help of several generous dog owners, we are thrilled to introduce Goodyear PawPals.
PawPals connects students with a special group of dogs and their handlers, including service and working dogs from DA, Harvard, Bentley, Police Search and Rescue, and Bunker Hill. Through this program, students will learn about different dogs, grow their curiosity and creativity, and strengthen their writing and drawing skills in a fun and engaging way.
After all, how often do you get the chance to have a pen pal who answers mail with paw-sonality and maybe a little drool?
THANK YOU Ms. Kelley, Paul, & Lilly!

5th Grade Field Trip - WONDER!
What an Experience: Fifth Grade at the Theater
Fifth grade students from Goodyear Elementary School recently enjoyed an unforgettable field trip to Cambridge to visit the American Repertory Theater. It was truly an experience of a lifetime, one that blended literature, the arts, and the heart of who we are as a school community.
This incredible opportunity began back in September, when Mr. Gore, a first year teacher at Goodyear, shared his vision. His passion for reading and the arts has made an immediate and meaningful mark on our school. He inspired the entire class to engage in a thoughtful class read of Wonder, centering their learning around its powerful themes of kindness, empathy, and acceptance.
Seeing the story come to life on stage was nothing short of magical. The excitement of the play and the music brought new joy and depth to the book, transforming familiar pages into living moments. The highlight, however, was witnessing what kindness looks like in action. The performance touched students in many different ways, reminding us that kindness is not just an idea but a daily choice. At Goodyear, kindness is our motivator and our focus every single day.
Throughout the trip, our students received countless compliments on how they presented themselves and represented Goodyear Elementary. They were united as a class, respectful, joyful, and proud. As a special surprise, students were treated to a visit from the cast after the performance. Cast members walked down the lines of students, signing playbills and shirts, turning an already special day into a memory they will carry for years.
A thank you goes to our dedicated staff members Ms. Abbot, Ms. Williams, Ms. Gillis, Ms. Murphy, Ms. Carlson, and Mr. Norden. Their excitement was contagious, and they generously gave their time to make this experience possible for our students. Thanks to their support, care, and enthusiasm, the day ran smoothly and became the kind of memory that sticks with kids long after the curtain falls.
As Wonder so beautifully reminds us, “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” This field trip was a living example of that message and a celebration of the kindness that defines our Goodyear community.
Learning Never Takes a Curtain Call in Fifth Grade
When fifth graders are not soaking in the fine arts in Cambridge, they are hard at work learning every single day. Classrooms are buzzing with thinking, collaboration, and curiosity as students dig into meaningful work across subjects.
Take a sneak peek into fifth grade learning through Ms. Bock’s and Ms. Patrissi’s walkthroughs. From thoughtful discussions to focused independent work, it is clear that students are engaged, motivated, and growing together.
Whether on a field trip or in the classroom, our fifth graders show up ready to learn and ready to shine
ACCESS Testing Complete
ACCESS testing is officially complete. A heartfelt thank you to our ML team and our new intern for their support with this important work, and special appreciation to Ms. Watros, Ms. Kapstad, Ms. Murphy, and Ms. Craven for managing the testing window with efficiency, focus, and care. Their quick, well-organized approach ensured a smooth and productive process for students and staff alike.
Small Group Instruction:
Meeting Students Where They Are and Pushing Them Forward
This week, Ms. Cronin’s class was all in on small group instruction using Reveal Math during walkthroughs by Ms. Patrissi and Ms. Bock. Students were engaged, focused, and thinking deeply as they worked through math together.
Keep up the great work, Ms. Cronin’s class. Learning looks lively, purposeful, and powerful in your room!
BUSTED - having fun!
Ms. Williams caught in the act… of having fun after school! ❄️ Nothing says joy quite like an old-school snowball fight while waiting for pick-up. Ms. Williams knows how to bring the fun and even bend the rules a tiny bit… but only after school. 😉
Welcoming New Students
At Goodyear, our motto, Kindness Starts With Me, is more than words on a wall. It lives in our classrooms, hallways, and daily interactions. We take pride in how we welcome new students and ensure they feel seen, supported, and truly part of our community from day one. From friendly smiles to helping hands, our students show us that kindness is a choice they make every day, and it’s one that shapes the warm, inclusive culture we are so proud of at Goodyear.

Lexia Celebration Coming Soon!
An exciting celebration is right around the corner as we get ready to recognize and celebrate our students for their hard work and dedication with Lexia Core5 Reading. Students have been showing perseverance, focus, and growth in their reading, and we cannot wait to shine a spotlight on their efforts.
Keep an eye out around the school for a very special visitor. A traveling Lexia Llama will soon be making its way through classrooms, spreading smiles and celebrating student success along the journey.
A special thank you to Ms. Pappagianopolis and Ms. Vasiladis for their time, creativity, and behind-the-scenes work to make the Lexia celebration happen. Their dedication helps turn student effort into moments of joy and recognition, and we are grateful for all they do to celebrate our learners. 🦙✨
Goodyear Hallways are Full Of Smiles
Smiles filled the hallways as happy staff and happy students shared the joy of the day. The positive energy was felt in every classroom and corner of our school.
Patriots Spirit Day - AGAIN!
"We all we got, we all we need"
Patriots pride was on full display at Goodyear this Friday. With the team’s theme, “We all we got, we all we need,” our students showed they understood the assignment. Little did the New England Patriots know that Goodyear spirit day last week may have helped push them to that big win. Clearly, they need us, so we showed up again this week in full spirit gear. Fingers crossed that our red, white, and blue energy helps bring home another W. Goodyear spirit makes a difference.
Lilly Brings Her A Game 🐾
Lilly brings her A game every visit! Goodyear’s therapy dog, Lilly, is essential to our Friday happiness and always knows how to lift spirits. You could say she really paws to make everyone smile.
Fifth grade had quite a week to celebrate. They earned the Positive Behavior award in the cafeteria and enjoyed a special visit with Lilly. That is a tail wag of a week if we have ever seen one.
High five to our school role models for showing kindness, responsibility, and pride every day. Keep leading the pack!
Lilly, Our Hardest-Working Therapy Dog (Nap Time Earned)
The Power Behind the Copy Cats
A huge thank you to Lori McDonough, the quiet force behind our Copy Cats. Every Friday, Lori comes in and supports our teachers by preparing curriculum materials, taking a significant lift off their planning time. She does this work so seamlessly that it often happens without anyone even realizing she’s there. We are so grateful for all you do, Lori. Your behind-the-scenes support makes a big difference for our entire school community!
Raffle Walk
Thank you to our incredible PTO for organizing this much-anticipated Raffle Walk. A special shout-out goes to our second and third graders for donating all of the items that filled the baskets with creativity and care. Students had a fabulous time exploring the many raffle possibilities, and the excitement was contagious throughout the event. Our family volunteers truly made the day shine. Happiness Is Celebrating Our Students
Happiness, in its purest school-day form, is celebrating our students. This week, I had the absolute joy of being invited to sit and listen as a student read a book to me. In that moment, nothing else mattered. The confidence in their voice, the pride in their posture, and that unmistakable, radiant smile said it all. You truly cannot beat the smile of a student who knows they’ve done something meaningful. Moments like these remind us why we do this work and leave us feeling incredibly proud of our learners and the growth they show every day.
Building Strong Readers with Heggerty
Heggerty Phonemic Awareness
Using the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum, our first-grade students have been actively strengthening their early reading skills. This program focuses on listening, speaking, and sound manipulation, helping students build a strong foundation for reading and spelling. This week, first graders were enthusiastically drilling their sounds and words with Ms. Carlson, practicing daily routines that build confidence, accuracy, and automaticity. Through these quick, engaging lessons, students are developing the skills they need to become strong, successful readers.
Reveal Math in Action: Smiles, Skills, and Teamwork
Reveal math
Reveal math manipulatives & games have been a big hit in our classrooms! Students are all smiles as they use these hands-on tools to explore math concepts, solve problems, and make their thinking visible. A special shout-out goes to our Copy Cats and dedicated staff, who worked hard last year photocopying and laminating games so Goodyear could hit the ground running with the new Reveal math curriculum. Their behind-the-scenes effort made this engaging learning possible, and it’s wonderful to see that hard work paying off in such happy, confident learners.
Walk-Abouts: Celebrating Instruction and Smiles
Ms. Williams and Ms. Patrissi love their walk-abouts into classrooms. These visits give us valuable opportunities to calibrate our “look-fors” when conducting observations and to ensure we are aligned in how we support our staff. During these moments, we see so much strong instruction and meaningful student engagement. Best of all, we see the smiles that remind us learning is happening and joy is present in our classrooms every day.
Ms. Gibbons’ first graders turned the math block into a mini makerspace! Students experimented with using one 3D shape to construct an entirely new 3D solid. The room was buzzing with observation, problem-solving, and some seriously impressive vocabulary for first grade mathematicians. Hands-on learning = full-on engagement!
In fourth grade, mathematicians in Ms. Doherty’s class explored how inverse operations can strengthen their division skills. Students tried out two new strategies to divide by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000! High-level thinking and teamwork made for a powerful math block!
Small-group math instruction got a big boost from our amazing paraprofessionals, Ms. Borselli and Ms. Carpenter. Their student support helped keep rotations moving smoothly and ensured consistent engagement for all learners.
Ms. Patrick’s third graders strengthened their reading fluency during WIN time. With guidance at the teacher table, students read with growing confidence and beautiful expression, a joy to listen to!
Celebrating Dreams and Kindness at Goodyear
Martin Luther King Spirit Day
As Dr. King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Our Goodyear Spirit Committee, in collaboration with the Goodyear Student Kindness Council, held a Spirit Day in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event highlighted the importance of kindness, community, and sharing our dreams for a better world. It was an all-school initiative where the Kindness Student Council cut, sorted, and delivered circles with the writing prompt, “I had a dream…” If you have a chance, come check out the inspiring dreams of our young Goodyear students. Students did a gallery walk to see each others work on Friday. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this important event happen! 🌟✂️📝
Spirit Day - Go Pats!
Goodyear loves a reason to dress up and celebrate, and Patriots Spirit Day delivered plenty of smiles and school pride. Jerseys, colors, and team spirit were everywhere. Go Pats!
Lilly the Therapy Dog: Rewarding Good Behavior and Spreading Joy
1st Grade for the W!
Ms. Kelley and Ms. Charlotte’s incentive plan, “Fill Your Dog Bowl” for good behavior in the café, is really paying off! First grade earned this Friday’s special visit with Lilly, our beloved therapy dog. Therapy dogs like Lilly are so important—they help reduce stress, promote social-emotional growth, and bring joy to every interaction. Paul McCaffery, Lilly’s handler, has even created some fun on the horizon: a mailbox just for Lilly to answer letters from our Goodyear students. What a fun pen pal! 🐾✉️ (We hear Lilly is paws-itively thrilled to fetch your mail—though she promises not to chew it!)
Happy Staff = Happy Kids
Ms. Mullin for the W!
The Goodyear Good Vibes Committee hit a home run with this week’s event—the Goodyear Bake-Off: Appetizer Edition! Everyone brought their best appetizer for a chance to win the coveted Goodyear Wooden Spoon Award. Goodyear Was the Place to Be this Week! (really...all weeks 😀)
The buzz around the great teaching happening at Goodyear is real. Recently, we welcomed special visitors who came to see that work in action, Ms. Young, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and former Goodyear teacher, and Ms. Abby Gillis, former Goodyear parent, MTSS Coordinator, and guest reader. They were among many visitors who stopped by to experience the strong instruction happening across our classrooms. During their visit, they had the opportunity to observe our literacy blocks and see firsthand the engaging, purposeful learning taking place each day at Goodyear.
Goodyear Staff Meeting - Grounded in Data
At Goodyear, data continues to guide our instructional decisions and strengthen student outcomes. Our recent staff meeting began with a Responsive Classroom math game, intentionally designed to weave math more deeply into our school culture and build comfort, engagement, and joy around mathematical thinking.
Our Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) has been closely reviewing student data to identify areas of growth and place targeted interventions where they will have the greatest impact. During the meeting, Kathleen Doherty, fourth-grade teacher, presented the ILT’s findings and led the data dive. She highlighted areas of growth across grade levels and outlined how the team is using this information to provide targeted support, including modeled lessons and intentional standards review to strengthen instruction.
Our ILT is made up of teacher leaders and specialists representing the whole school community, including Kathleen Doherty (Grade 4), Peggy Billings (Grade 3), Colene Gibbons (Grade 1), Marisa Bagni (Grade 1), Lia Lawler (Special Education), Kate Kapstad (Multilingual), Bethany Newman (Fine Arts), Jen Ross (Content Specialist), Amy Manes (District Curriculum Coordinator), Amanda Williams (Assistant Principal), and Meg Patrissi (Principal).
During the meeting, Emily Shaw, Content Specialist, introduced a new intervention program focused on the different types of word problems students encounter. All teachers will be reviewing these word problems using shared slides to ensure consistent language, strategies, and expectations across classrooms. Our goals include increasing student vocabulary, stamina, and problem-solving strategies.
Additionally, Ms. Kelly Pappagianopoulos introduced a new schoolwide focus on Lexia minutes. This initiative will begin next week and will support student growth through increased practice and consistency.
Teacher leadership is essential to our success, and Goodyear is full of leaders working together to support every learner.
Woburn being Woburn...
Benchmark and the Syring family recently partnered to run a donation drive in support of Goodyear, and we are so grateful for their generosity.
Brandan Syring & family are longtime members of our community, and I remember them fondly from my time at the George Clapp building, which later merged with Goodyear many years ago. Woburn families never forget their roots, and this gesture is a beautiful reminder of that legacy.
Thank you to Benchmark for supporting this meaningful initiative. Our Goodyear staff are truly loving the donations, and the appreciation says it all. Just take a look at Ms. Billings’ face in the photo.
Ms. Carlson - Endicott College Intern
Ms. Carlson taught an engaging lesson this week as students launched into our next writing unit on informational texts. Writers began exploring “how-to” and “all about” pieces by tackling a classic topic: How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Through lots of laughter and learning, students quickly discovered just how important details are in clear writing.
Students took turns reading their directions aloud while helping Ms. Carlson “make” her lunch. It didn’t take long to realize that steps matter. Writers learned they can’t skip details like taking the bread out of the bag, spreading the peanut (sun) butter and jelly on the bread, and using the right utensils. This hands-on experience made the power of precise language come alive.
We can’t wait to see all the rich details students add to their informational writing next week as they continue to grow as thoughtful, clear writers!
Lilly welcome our students back on Friday after a long week following the break!
With smiles for miles, Lilly wandered the halls spreading joy and setting a positive tone to end the week. A big thank you to Paul and Ms. Kelley for organizing this special welcome every Friday.
We also kicked off our PAW-sitive Incentive Plan in the cafeteria. This initiative is a great way to encourage and celebrate respectful, responsible, and safe behavior at Goodyear. 🐾
Fridays are feeling extra PAW-sitive!
Ms. Billings, Ms. Hartford and Ms. Shaw are developing strong MATH-letes! 🧮💪
Students were fully engaged in an energetic lesson focused on multiplication and building arrays. Hands-on materials, thoughtful talk, and visible problem-solving filled the room as students made sense of how numbers work together.
This kind of joyful Reveal math learning is adding up to big growth at Goodyear!
Martin Luther King Day Preparation - Goodyear Student Kindness Council
✨This week, the Goodyear Student Kindness Council is helping lead a special schoolwide project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.. All of our students will share “a dream,” which will be proudly displayed throughout the school. This display celebrates Dr. King’s belief that every voice matters and every step forward counts.
"The time is always right to do what is right." – Martin Luther King Jr.
Our students’ dreams reflect hope, kindness, and the power of continuing to move forward together. 💙
Ms. Sullivan's Slime Activity
Ms. Sullivan's students filled it with teamwork, kindness, and perseverance and earned a well-deserved Slime Party. Today, they rolled up their sleeves and made their very own slime, mixing, measuring, and laughing their way through a gooey celebration. A little messy, a lot of fun, and a perfect reward for their hard work.

GOODYEAR COMMUNITY we will see you in 2026!
The Goodyear Elementary School community would like to wish all of our caregivers and families a safe, joyful, and restful holiday season. Goodyear is a place filled with kindness, caring students, and dedicated staff, and we are so grateful to share each day with such an incredible community. Amanda and I are truly thankful to be part of Goodyear. May this break be a time to rest, reconnect, and carry Goodyear’s big heart and spirit of kindness wherever you go.
Character Trait Assembly - Honety
Goodyear celebrated the character trait of honesty at this month’s assembly by recognizing staff-selected students for demonstrating honesty in their daily actions. During the assembly, the character trait of fairness was introduced for the upcoming month by Goodyear’s own recess monitor, Sarah Busa. Through a student video, Sarah shared how she works with fairness every day while helping resolve recess conflicts, reminding students what fairness looks like in action. We are lucky to have her as part of our Goodyear community.
The celebration continued with the Goodyear 12 Days of Winter performance, organized by Gina Rosinski and led by Meg and Amanda, who sang each main verse as the entire school joyfully joined in from the first day of winter through all twelve. 🎶❄️

Students gave a warm farewell and best wishes to Ms. Malia, who has been working as a paraprofessional at Goodyear for several years. She will be missed by many, and we are excited to see all the great things she will do next.
Dedication - Ms. Doherty
Ms. Doherty proved that nothing gets this teacher down. With a little help from her friends and even with a bum foot, she still made it to school. She is a true trooper and one incredibly dedicated teacher.
Turkey Trot Celebration
Students raised over $20, 000!
The Turkey Trot kicked off with an Inflatables Dance Party, as inflatables entered through the back doors while students danced along to their walk-out songs, including favorites like Baby Shark, Crazy Train, Dancing Queen, John Cena, I Like to Move It, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
The PTO then led announcements of winners, top prize recipients, raffle winners, and the launch of gift cards. The crowd cheered as MP got a Pie in the Face courtesy of Aubryn Friel.
Enjoy the photos of all the fun! It was a wonderful way to celebrate the last day before break. Thank you to the PTO and all the staff who made it happen for our Goodyear students.
Happy Staff = Happy Kids
Unbox the Magic was so much fun! Thank you to Ms. Auferio for returning to organize this special holiday event. Teachers enjoyed spending time together and exchanging their Secret Snowflake gifts.

Thank you as well to Mr. Chris and his crew for setting up the gym and making sure all families were comfortable and ready to enjoy the show. We are also grateful to our dedicated staff for their flexibility with rehearsals and for supporting our students as they prepared for this special performance.
A special acknowledgment goes to Mr. Tully for his outstanding performance with the band. His leadership and musical talent helped create an engaging and memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
Most importantly, we would like to recognize Ms. Newman for the incredible time, effort, and dedication she put into making this event a five-star success. She generously gave up lunch periods and prep time to ensure every performance shined, and we are so thankful for her commitment to our students.
Thank you to all of our families and community members for supporting our students and Goodyear. Your presence and encouragement mean so much. We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did and left feeling proud of our amazing students.
Here’s to a joyful winter season and many more moments to celebrate together!
“Mr. Slagmolen brought the Grinch’s magic to the gym with a holiday-themed game. All the students loved having The Grinch playing in the background during gym class.”
Spirit Week at Goodyear was SO FUN!
Spirit Week was so much fun!
Monday kicked things off with Head-to-Toe Day, followed by Tacky Tuesday, where those ugly sweaters really stole the show. Festive Whoville Wednesday brought out so many Grinches around the school! On Thursday, everyone showed their style for Dress to Impress, and we wrapped up the week with Frosty Friday.
Here are some photos to showcase all the fun and school spirit! ❄️🎄

3rd Grade Field Trip to the Commonwealth Museum
Third grade visited the Commonwealth Museum this week. During a 90-minute guided tour, Goodeyar students explored Massachusetts history and learned about the state’s role in developing rights for all Americans. The experience, aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, included the Treasures Gallery with rare historical materials, interactive exhibits, and a surround-sound theater that brought history to life. Thank you for organizing such a wonderful trip.

Goodyear's Winter Festival
Goodyear Elementary PTO – Winter Festival Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Winter Festival on Saturday, December 6 from 11:30 AM–2:00 PM! It was a wonderful afternoon filled with activities, creativity, and community spirit. Families participated together in a fun, safe, and festive environment.
Students and families enjoyed a wide variety of free activities throughout the festival, including crafts, hot cocoa, a cake walk, visits with Santa, a sensory station, hair decorations, cookie decorating, and more.
Families also enjoyed a special activity for purchase: Holiday Ornament Painting with Art Signals Studio. Ms. Patrisi was especially impressed by how beautiful and creative all of the finished ornaments were! Art Signals Studio will fire the ornaments at their studio and return them to the school once completed.
We were delighted to have crossing gaurd, Mr. Palladino, moonlighting as Santa this year, accompanied by his wife Carol, with Lilly making a special appearance in her adorable holiday outfit. It was so wonderful of their family to stop by and support Goodyear.
What a fabulous event the PTO created and hosted for our families!

The Goodyear Goodies School Store promotional video highlights all the fun snacks and spirit items in a bright, upbeat way that feels super inviting. It’s especially cute how the students show off the goodies with so much excitement and spirit.
Always a LION!
Ms. Ciasullo visited the Altavesta to observe a model lesson in our new math program alongside her colleagues. While she was there, she delivered a special message from Goodyear to one of her former students who had been redistricted—because once a Goodyear student, always a LION! Thank you, Ms. Ciasullo, for keeping that connection strong and supporting your former student.
MORE Parking at Goodyear
A big thank-you to Woburn DPW, Reliable Fence, and Lenny Burnham for making this project happen. We all know what it’s been like—many of us have logged enough steps walking to the main door of Goodyear to count as our daily cardio!
Thanks as well to our Goodyear Staff Capital Committee, who gathered input/data thorugh a survey from staff about their big-picture dreams for Goodyear. It probably comes as no surprise that the overwhelming request was for more parking.
We appreciate everyone’s teamwork and advocacy in helping improve our school community.

4th Grade Field Trip - Gillette Stadium
A big thank you to the 4th-grade team for organizing this fun and educational event. Students received an NFL-style welcome back from our staff and some fellow Lions, making the experience even more special. They also packed Patriots game equipment, learned how to use a scale, and practiced so many valuable life skills along the way.
And of course, lunch at Red Robin was the bonus!
Ms. Doherty with Versatile Friday!
Ms. Doherty’s class loves working with Versatiles—a great way to do a formative assessment and check for understanding. They love the learning and the reading! Versatile reading activities are especially helpful because they encourage active engagement, allow students to self-check their comprehension, and provide teachers with quick insight into who’s grasping the material and who may need extra support.

Ms. Cara's Writer's Workshop
Ms. Cara’s second grade class hosted the first-ever Writers’ Workshop on Tuesday. It was wonderful to hear all the creative stories the students produced—there is some real talent and many future authors in this group! Writing at the elementary level builds confidence, strengthens communication skills, and helps students develop their voices as young storytellers.
It was a joy to see so many families come to hear their students read their work. Families were able to leave positive comments for every student, and it was a treat to watch everyone make their way around the room to celebrate their classmates’ writing.
Thank you to Ms. Cara for arranging such a truly positive and exciting event for her class. We can’t wait to see more events like this!
Goodyear is starting a Drama Club led by Mr. Gore!
This is exciting news, as theater is a wonderful way to build confidence, encourage creativity, strengthen communication skills, foster teamwork, and help students learn to express themselves in new ways.
The club will begin as an After the Bell session and will grow into a student-run and student-performed play that will take place at Woburn Memorial High School.
And the big secret… What will this year’s play be?

Ms. Reardon's Class Movin' & Groovin'
It's time to stand up, stretch, and move! Even just a few minutes of movement can make a huge difference in how the brain works.
⚡ Increases Blood Flow and Oxygen: Physical activity pumps more oxygen-rich blood to the brain. This can make students feel more alert and energized, preparing them to tackle the next learning task.
🧠 Boosts Cognitive Function: Movement stimulates the release of neurotransmitters (like dopamine and norepinephrine) that are essential for focus, attention, and memory formation. This can lead to better information processing and recall.
🧘 Reduces Stress and Fatigue: Taking a break helps dissipate built-up stress, restlessness, and mental fatigue. A few minutes of fun movement can help students reset and return to their seats feeling calm and ready to concentrate.
✨ Improves Mood: Physical activity is a natural mood booster, making the classroom a more positive and productive environment for everyone.

This week, our 5th graders had a blast learning the Heel and Toe Polka! Students practiced moving in rhythm, working respectfully with their partners, and showing responsibility by following each step of the dance. They also demonstrated excellent safety skills while navigating around the room.

Character Trait for December
Honesty
Be truthful, sincere, and straightforward, don’t lie, cheat or steal, don’t intentionally mislead others.
Caregiver Reminder: Crocs Alert (slippery)
Please make sure your student has proper footwear for play.
I checked the elementary handbook, and this is what it states regarding footwear: “For the safety of each child, all shoes should have a closed or strapped back.”
PTO Parents — they make great things happen!
They came out in the cold for a fun-filled Turkey Trot and helped raise over $17,000 through their incredible organization and dedication. There were so many smiles around the Goodyear track!
Mayor Concannon truly goes above and beyond!
He has always been a big fan of Goodyear and a frequent visitor. During one of his visits, he had two students write him letters. One of those letters came from Omeir White, a 5th-grade student, whose request was to have a popcorn machine at Goodyear.
Mayor Concannon stepped up in a big way! He visited to help deliver our Character Trait of the Month—Honesty—and also brought popcorn for every class to enjoy during the Turkey Trot. We are so lucky to have such a supportive mayor. Even better…the streets and hallways of Goodyear smelled like popcorn!
Behind Every Great School… Is This Squad
Central office and city officials once again stepped up for Goodyear at this year’s Turkey Trot. Their support added to the excitement and community spirit of the day.

TWINNING!
“When you work together and spend so much time together, you start to dress alike! 😂 ”
What do teachers do at the end of the day? They gather and catch up with their colleagues to get ready for tomorrow. This was a great example of how their space can flex and adapt during collaboration—because if anyone knows how to make room for learning, it’s teachers. Honestly, their teamwork is so smooth it deserves an A+… and maybe even extra credit.
Proud Goodyear rockstar here — he finished this all on his own! 🧩 His hard work and focus really paid off, and the puzzle brought amazing benefits like stronger problem-solving skills, better concentration, and a big boost of confidence.

Staff Learning & Growing at Goodyear
Our staff have been busy this week learning and growing. At Goodyear, we hosted a handwriting presentation for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers. Strong letter formation in the primary years is essential, as it builds foundational motor patterns that support fluency, confidence, and clear written communication throughout a child’s school career. This presentation was led by Goodyear’s own occupational therapist, Sarah Feinberg, who is highly knowledgeable and well-trained in handwriting development and letter formation.
At the same time, teachers in grades 3, 4, and 5 attended a presentation hosted at Goodyear by Abby Gillis, WPS MTSS Coordinator. The focus of this session was the STAR assessment, which is administered to all students. While STAR was originally used to assess and support students performing at or above grade level, Goodyear is one of the pilot schools in Woburn working to expand the use of this assessment tool to gain deeper insight into student growth and needs across all performance levels.
Our content specialist team, Jen Ross and Emily Shaw, also hosted a Book Room tour. This gave our veteran staff a helpful refresher and provided our new staff with an overview of the fabulous resources available to support WIN small-group reading instruction and the Reveal Math manipulatives that enhance hands-on learning. Their guidance ensures that staff can easily access and use these tools to strengthen instruction across the school.
During our half-day professional development, all staff members attended a Reveal Math training. Reveal Math is a comprehensive, research-based math program designed to support conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and discourse. It emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world application, helping students build flexible mathematical thinking.
Goodyear staff are always growing and learning. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking team supporting our students every day.
Goodyear Goodies
Goodyear Goodies roamed the hallways, and students were excited to spend their loot on trinkets. Ms. Billings and her crew made sure every student had a chance to make a purchase if they wanted. Running the school store gave students a hands-on opportunity to practice important life skills like money management, responsibility, organization, and customer service.
Lily Visits 4th Grade!
Lily came out to visit our 4th-grade group. They won the visit by being recognized by staff for their acts of kindness throughout the day. Isn’t it great to be caught being kind when no one is watching?

Veteran's Day at Goodyear
Ms. Patrissi opened with a message of gratitude, honoring the courage and sacrifice of all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. After a moment of silence, Ms. Rosinski led the National Anthem. Students learned about the meaning of Veterans Day and the importance of citizenship and gratitude.
The guest speaker, Sgt. Anthony Langone (Air Force), shared his experiences serving overseas and his continued commitment to helping veterans and the community. Fourth and fifth graders presented poems and performances honoring veterans.
The assembly closed with final remarks of thanks, a reminder to appreciate veterans every day!

Goodyear Celebrated World Kindess Day
Morning Announcement by our Student Kindess Council Members
Good morning, Goodyear Elementary School!
This is a message of kindness from the Goodyear Kindness Council — where kindness starts with me!
Today, our school is celebrating Kindness Spirit Day! We’re kicking things off with a school-wide reading of The Bucket Filler. Throughout the day, staff will be handing out Bucket Filler stickers to students who are caught showing kindness to others. Every student will also receive a sticker of kindness in their classroom.
There are buckets to fill located on every floor! Your teacher will give everyone a sticky note — please add your message of kindness, a picture, or a kind act you did today. Let’s fill those buckets!
At the end of the day, our Kindness Student Council will be passing out a special treat to celebrate all the kindness shared today.
Remember, Goodyear Lions — kindness starts with me, today and every day!
Enjoy the book, and have a wonderful Kindness Spirit Day!
Student Kindness Council - Gets prepared!
The Student Kindness Council got together the day before to organize all the kindness materials. This way, everyone could participate in the Goodyear event. Kindness starts with me… and with all of us! 🌟
Showing you kindess!
We kicked off the day by wearing something that represented kindness — a shirt with a positive message, bright colors, or even a homemade design! Every student was given a positivity/kindness sticker at the start of the day!
Students also created their own signs of positivity on their shirts or wore stickers, badges, or pins that spread good vibes throughout the day.
This shirt says it all...
Are you a BUCKET FILLER?
We began our morning together with a special school-wide reading of The Bucket Filler. This story reminded us how every kind word and action helped fill someone’s “bucket” — and our own, too!
🪣 Classroom Bucket Fillers
Each classroom received a set of sticky notes to use as “bucket fillers.”
Throughout the day, students and staff were encouraged to:
-
Write kind messages, compliments, or notes of appreciation.
-
Stick them on a floor kindness bucket located on each floor.
🌟 Bucket Filler Stickers & 💌 End-of-Day Kindness Surprise!
When students wrote and placed their bucket filler sticky notes, they received a Bucket Filler Sticker as a thank-you for spreading kindness. They wore them proudly as symbols of their caring spirit and to inspire others to keep the kindness going throughout the day. By the end of the day, the halls and classrooms were overflowing with kindness!
To wrap up this special day, the Goodyear Kindness Ambassadors passed out messages of kindness to all students — a final reminder that kindness mattered every single day.
The Arts at Goodyear!
We love the arts in our classroom! Students have been exploring creativity through music, movement, and visual art.
The arts help children build confidence, develop fine-motor and problem-solving skills, and express their emotions in healthy, creative ways. They bring joy to learning and help every student shine.
Kindergarten Community Day
Thank you to our local community members for visiting our kindergarten classes for Community Day! We learned about how each role gives back to the community and about fire safety. A big thank-you to our kindergarten team and community members for joining in the fun at Goodyear! 💛
⭐🤩🤩🤩 STAFF SPOTLIGHTS 🤩🤩🤩⭐
Woburn Community Educational Foundation - THANK YOU!
A representative from the Woburn Community Educational Foundation, Ms. Comerier — who also serves on the Woburn School Committee — came in to give each of our kindergarteners a book! We love literacy, and there’s nothing like a fresh new book to read! 💛📖
Learning to THINK Before We Speak
Our fourth graders took part in a meaningful social emotional learning lesson with Ms. Calkins and Ms. Michalek all about THINK-ing before they speak and understanding that words matter. Students explored different scenarios and talked about when it might be better to pause and hold onto a thought versus when it is okay to share it.
Ms. Michalek also led a fun, interactive circle activity where students stepped into the circle if they thought a comment would be kind or appropriate to say, or stepped out if they felt it would be better left unsaid. The grade then came together to discuss each situation as a team. It was a wonderful way to help students practice empathy, reflection, and positive communication.

💵No amount is too small, everything makes a difference! 💯 of proceeds goes right back to the school.
Thank you for your continuing support of our Lions
Congratulations, Malia Lawler — Woburn Public Schools Paraprofessional of the Month!
Ms. Malia is a quiet and calming presence who supports her students to the ends of the earth. When she speaks, everyone listens. She is thoughtful, skilled, and brings a tremendous SEL toolbox to her work every day. Goodyear is truly lucky to have her as part of our team.
Her mother, Ms. Lia (a teacher here at Goodyear), must be so proud of the dedicated young professional she has become!
🥁 Look at Ms. Newman's Class!
Our amazing 1st graders are learning to play a steady beat on the tambourines! 🎶
They’re keeping rhythm, making music, and having so much fun while learning the joy of teamwork and sound! 💛
🌎 World Kindness Day at Goodyear 💙
At Goodyear, KINDNESS STARTS WITH ME!
Let’s celebrate kindness together!
On World Kindness Day, we’re turning Goodyear into a place filled with smiles, positivity, and bucket-filling moments!
💛 Show Your Kindness Spirit!
Kick off the day by wearing something that represents kindness — a shirt with a positive message, bright colors, or even a homemade design! Every student will be given a positivity/kindness sticker at the start of the day!
You can also create your own sign of positivity on your shirt, or wear a sticker, badge, or pin that spreads good vibes throughout the day.
Sometimes you just have to play with the leaves when living in New England! 🍁
Classroom Spotlight: Understanding What “Times” Means - Ms. Y's Class
This week, Ms. Yanosky’s class explored what the word “times” means in math. Using cubes, students built and compared groups to see how multiplication represents “how many times as much.”
During the discussion, one student suggested that “3 is 9 times as much as 27.” The class worked together to test that idea and discovered that the opposite is true — 27 is 9 times as much as 3!
Through hands-on exploration, students are learning that multiplication isn’t just about numbers on a page — it’s about understanding relationships and scaling quantities.
What do WPS Staff do on “Days Off” for Students?
While students enjoy their day off, WPS staff spend the time learning and growing! We began our day at WMHS for a district-wide review of the Standard Response Protocol, ensuring we’re all aligned on safety procedures. Back at Goodyear, we were joined by Chris Murphy, Director of Special Programs, who led a Safety Care training focused on setting positive conditions, de-escalation, and effective intervention strategies. Emily Shaw also facilitated two engaging Reveal math sessions with our grade-level and special education focus groups. We are so fortunate to have such talented and dedicated staff committed to the continued growth and success of the Goodyear community.
Goodyear’s Own Student Kindness Council 💛
Our amazing Student Kindness Council packaged up ribbons to spread kindness awareness throughout the school! They made sure everyone in their classes received one — no Lion left out. 🦁✨
Next week, the Council will help lead our Spirit Day as we celebrate World Kindness Day! 🌍💫
Thank you to Ms. Kelley and Ms. Christina for helping lead these important kindness spreaders at Goodyear! 🙏💛
Students and staff wore purple this Friday to recognize Epilepsy Awareness Month.
Everyone was encouraged to show their support by wearing purple, and all students were given a ribbon to wear if they chose. This was a wonderful way for our school community to participate in the spirit day together!
Some Goodyear Lions alumni brought their Goodyear Kindness to Kennedy Middle School! 🦁💛
The girls made bracelets and sold them at Goodyear on Election Day. With the money they earned, they stocked Kennedy’s Tanner Closet — a much-needed resource that supports students in need.
Once a Lion, always kind. 🦁✨
Lilly's Visit - The most anticipated visit of the week by students!
WAY TO GO, KINDERGARTEN! 🎉👏
You had the most recognized acts of kindness around Goodyear!
The Kindness Challenge, developed by Ms. Kelley, has staff adding a sprinkle to our giant donut wall each time they spot an act of kindness. 🍩💖
Our kindergartners really stepped up their kindness game! Their prize? A special visit from Lilly — and you can’t beat that sweet treat on a Friday! 🐾🍬
Sprinkling kindness everywhere — that’s the Goodyear way! 🦁✨
Mr. Y stopped by Goodyear to help our students burn off some extra energy — and what a great time it was! The gym was filled with laughter, movement, and plenty of smiling faces. What a wonderful way to end the week!
Holiday Show - coming soon!
🎄 The Holiday Show is Around the Corner! 🎶
I can’t wait to see all of our talented students shine on stage!
✨ Mark your calendars!
Please be sure to attend the show that corresponds to your student’s last name.
We’re so excited to celebrate the season together — see you then! 💫
Shrek the Musical - In-person preview!
On Wednesday, the Woburn Memorial High School Theater Team came to Goodyear to perform a live preview of their upcoming production, Shrek the Musical! All Goodyear students enjoyed the singing and theatrical performances. We were especially excited to welcome some WMHS students who are proud Goodyear alumni!
Getting Active with Ms. Patrissi’s Favorite Game! ⚽
A group of students enjoyed playing some soccer — a great way to burn off energy and enjoy the brisk fall air here in New England. 🍂
With the World Cup coming this summer, it’s the perfect time to practice those skills and have fun with friends! 🌍⚽
Happy Staff = Happy Kids
Rock, Paper, Scissors isn’t just for kids!
Our staff had a friendly Rock, Paper, Scissors competition throughout the day on Friday. Each time someone won, they earned a beaded necklace! It was such a fun and creative way to build school spirit and strengthen our building culture. Thank you Goodyear Good Vibes Committee for keeping fun rolling!
Ms. Alisha for the WIN!
From the Halls of Goodyear to the Streets of NYC — Congrats, Ms. Jill!
We’re so proud of our Goodyear social worker, Ms. Jill, who recently completed the New York City Marathon! You might have seen her running down the hall — all that hard work has paid off. Next stop: Boston in April! Way to go, Ms. Jill! 🏃♀️🎉

September's Character Trait Pics - Respect
Highlighted in the Goodyear Halls!
Goodyear Celebrates the Trait of Responsibility! 🦁
Goodyear celebrated the character trait Responsibility on Monday during our all-school assembly!
Our talented second graders shared a beautiful acrostic poem highlighting all the ways we can show responsibility every day.
We also introduced our new charter trait with a special guest — Ms. Court Young, Assistant Superintendent of Woburn Public Schools and a former Goodyear Lion! 💜 During her time at Goodyear, Ms. Young taught in the Resource Room and 4th grade alongside Ms. Doherty.
Ms. Young spoke about what it means to be a citizen of our school and the importance of creating a sense of belonging for everyone.
A huge thank you to Ms. Young for taking the time to return to where it all started — Goodyear School!
A few pics from the celebration!
Eversource Energy Assembly
Students in grades 3–5 enjoyed a special treat during the Eversource Energy Assembly! ⚡️
The presentation shared great concepts about the environment and energy, led by some energetic and engaging Eversource staff. Students learned how we can all help protect our planet by using energy wisely.
A big thank you to Ms. Doherty for organizing this wonderful assembly and bringing such a meaningful enrichment opportunity to Goodyear! 🌍💡
Ms. Kelley Spreads KINDNESS!
Staff are recognizing the great things happening at Goodyear—and it all celebrates our school motto: “Kindness starts with me…” 💜
To share the kindness they witness each day, staff add a “sprinkle” (a Post-it note) describing acts of kindness they see around Goodyear. Each sprinkle helps us see just how much kindness fills our school community!
Thank you, Ms. Kelley, for inspiring us to notice and celebrate the kindness all around us!
Ms. Anne Sanizzaro is back!
One of our dedicated recess monitors, Anne, brings such great spirit to Goodyear!
We’re so happy to have her back — she was sorely missed by both administration and staff.
Welcome back, Anne!
Goodyear School is Celebrating Diwali!
Goodyear School is joining in the celebration of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights. 🌟
Diwali is a joyful holiday celebrated by millions of people around the world. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and it’s a time for family gatherings, sharing sweets, lighting diyas (lamps), and spreading happiness.
Let’s join together to celebrate the spirit of light, kindness, and community here at Goodyear!

Halloween Parade in Woburn! 🎃
If you know… you know! In true Woburn fashion, chairs started lining the streets on Wednesday for Sunday’s famous Halloween Parade — a long-standing community tradition that brings everyone together.
Goodyear rocked the float this year! Our amazing 5th graders worked hard to create a true masterpiece — and their effort paid off with a 2nd place win! 🥈
Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who helped make this year’s parade such a spooky success! 👻💜
Thank you Woburn Host Lions Club and Barry Donovan for presenting the check to Goodyear 5th grade.
Fun Fact
A Bit of Goodyear & Woburn History! 🎃
Did you know? Ms. Patrissi’s grandfather, Bob Varey, was the Grand Marshal of the very first Woburn Halloween Parade — riding his horse named Irish! 🐴✨
According to family folklore, that very first parade 71 years ago, and it was even held at night.

Butterfly Breaths
Our school adjustment counselor practices butterfly breaths with Ms. Hardy's first-grade class. This activity is part of our social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons designed to help students cope when they are feeling anxious or stressed.
Butterfly breaths involve slow, deep breathing paired with gentle arm movements that mimic the flapping of butterfly wings. Deep breathing helps calm the body and mind by lowering heart rate, reducing stress, and increasing focus. Teaching these techniques early empowers students with healthy tools to manage their emotions and build resilience.
Leadership Walkthroughs
Ms. Caldwell, our Multilingual Learner Leader, joined members of the Goodyear administration for classroom walkthroughs this week. The purpose was to calibrate and collaborate by observing instruction across grade levels.
We focused on consistency in curriculum and lesson depth, and we were excited to see many wonderful lessons and fantastic teaching in action! Students were eager to share what they were learning and confidently explained the objectives of their lessons.
It was such a joy to see teachers in their element and students actively engaged in learning. These moments truly highlight the dedication and talent in our classrooms!

Happy Staff = Happy Kids
Our recent staff bowling night was a strike of fun and team bonding! It’s great to see our amazing staff unwind and connect outside the classroom.
We also had a blast with our Staff School Picture Day Challenge — students and staff loved guessing who was who when they saw the throwback photos of their teachers from elementary school. It was a fun way to bring everyone closer together and share some laughs!

October's Character Trait - Responsibility
Doing what needs to be done, being reliable and dependable, being accountable for your actions; not making excuses or blaming others, fulfilling your moral obligations, using good judgment, thinking through the consequences of your actions, exercising self-control.
Celebrating September's Character Trait; Respect
Mr. Bing, Goodyear’s own 4th-grade teacher, had a big surprise when FOUR of his students came back to present at the Traits Assembly. These four students are now on the WMHS football team and have great memories of being in class together way back when—at some point, these boys were even smaller than Mr. Bing!
At high school, you see the pinnacle of your work when students graduate. Elementary teachers rarely get to see the positive impact they’ve made on these young adult leaders.
Thank you, Mr. Bing, for being a role model and teacher.
All School Assembly
Goodyear came together as a school community to celebrate our students who exemplify the character trait of RESPECT—what an inspiring way to kick off the school year! A huge thank you to our assembly team for their thoughtful planning and energy that made the event such a success. The celebration included a fun surprise—teachers danced to the song “Respect” as students cheered them on, filling the gym with joy and excitement!
The Goodyear spirit was high, with all our students proudly wearing black and orange. But this wasn’t just any celebration—we had a special surprise this time! Coach Belcher from WMHS joined us, along with a group of Goodyear alumni seniors, to help announce our next school-wide character trait focus: RESPONSIBILITY.
The alumni shared powerful examples of how they demonstrate responsibility—by showing up to school on time, completing their homework, working hard on the field, and supporting their teammates. Their words were a great reminder that responsibility starts early and stays with you for life.
The gym was electric with pride and excitement. Teachers had the chance to reconnect with their former students and see the incredible young leaders they've become.
We are so proud of our former students and deeply grateful to the Goodyear staff for playing such an important role in their journey. Best of luck this season, seniors—we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way!

Strike Up the Band! 🎺🎶
Mr. Tully kicked off band lessons at Goodyear this week, and the excitement is in the air! We can't wait to hear our talented 4th and 5th graders as they begin making music together. It was such a joy to see them shine during last year’s spring concert, and we know this year will be even better.
Learning an instrument at the elementary level does more than just teach kids how to play—it builds discipline, boosts memory, enhances coordination, and encourages teamwork and creativity. Plus, studies show that music education supports academic growth and emotional well-being.
So keep practicing, musicians—we’ll see you on America’s Got Talent in no time!

Kindergarten Team - preparing for the kick off of WIN BLOCK
A big thank you to Ms. Ross for leading the charge in ensuring high-quality assessment practices! This week, the focus was on administering DIBELS to our kindergarten students with fidelity. The kindergarten team took time to refresh their skills and review the proper protocols for delivering DIBELS assessments accurately and consistently.
Consistent administration of standardized tests like DIBELS is essential to collecting clean, reliable data. When assessments are delivered uniformly, we can better identify students’ needs, track progress, and provide targeted support.
Up next, kindergarten will kick off their W.I.N. (What I Need) block—a powerful time dedicated to small group literacy instruction tailored to each student's needs.
A special shoutout to our amazing intervention team for helping make this possible. Together, we’re building strong foundations for future success!
Thank you PTO - Li Lui was a hit for the enrichment program this month!
A big thank you to our amazing PTO for bringing Li Liu and her show, Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics, to Goodyear!
Li wowed us with plate spinning, ribbon dancing, hand balancing, and more—even inviting some students on stage to join the fun! Along the way, she shared insights into Chinese culture, language, and New Year traditions.
It was an exciting and educational experience for the whole Goodyear community. We’re so grateful for opportunities like this! 🧡🖤
National Custodial Staff Day
A huge shoutout to Mr. Chris, Mr. Mike, and Mr. Connor—our incredible custodial staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Goodyear running smoothly. They care deeply about our students and school, and it shows in everything they do.
This week, students shared their gratitude by leaving notes of appreciation on the custodial workroom door—a small gesture for the big impact these amazing team members make every day.
Thank you for all you do! We’re lucky to have you!
Ms. Rosinski and Ms. Delany's Learning Centers & Dinosaur Day
Ms. Rosinski and Ms. Delaney's Learning Centers were a big hit! Students engaged in hands-on learning using manipulatives in small groups. They practiced important skills like collaboration, problem-solving, and teamwork—all while having fun and staying actively involved in their learning.
Great work, teachers and students!
The class earned a DINOSAUR DAY!
Engaging Instruction with Ms. Doherty! 📖✨
Ms. Doherty brings learning to life with lessons that are both fun and meaningful! After whole-group instruction, students broke out into small groups to explore books with thought partners. They shared what they loved about the stories and engaged in higher-level thinking questions, deepening their understanding through discussion.
The lesson wrapped up with group book presentations, giving students a chance to shine and share their insights. What a great way to build a love of reading and critical thinking!
Ms. Yanofsky's 4th Grade Visit
Thank you to Damian’s father for coming and sharing his knowledge about coins. We are lucky to have you with us and appreciate your deep, unique expertise. Ms. Yanofsky’s class had a blast!
Ms. Liz with some sensory time!
Ms. Liz used playdough as a fun way for students to learn numbers through sensory play. Sensory activities like this help engage multiple senses, which supports brain development, improves focus, and strengthens memory—making learning both effective and enjoyable!

OUR UNSUNG HEROS
Goodyear students are so lucky to have such a strong team of lunch and recess monitors! We surprised them with a small gift of appreciation for all they do. Their job description is HUGE — they keep the lunchroom running smoothly, help solve conflicts, encourage kind behavior, make sure students are safe and having fun at recess, clean up messes (big and small!), offer comfort when someone’s having a tough day, and somehow always do it all with a smile. We’re so grateful for this incredible team!
Ms. Cara started her day by introducing her student leaders.
Mr. Slagmolen's Class
“Capture the ball” was the name of the game in Mr. Slagmolen's class, where students developed important skills such as teamwork, strategic thinking, quick decision-making, communication, and agility.
Indoor Recess
Rain, rain, go away… but at Goodyear, we make the best of indoor recess! Without screens, students enjoy valuable time socializing, building friendships, and engaging in creative, screen-free activities together.

Relationship Building
Mr. Jay builds great relationships with his students, which is the foundation for everything in school. Strong relationships foster trust, boost student confidence, encourage positive behavior, and create a supportive learning environment where students can thrive.
Ms. Abbott, in her first year, has made a big splash. She has built quite a community of learners in a short time.
Ms. Nawoichik loves her small group instruction. She’s new to Goodyear this year, and we’re so lucky to have her here!

💛 Spreading Kindness, the Goodyear Way
We had a special visitor at Goodyear Elementary today! Ms. Marrama, a proud former Goodyear and WMHS graduate, and Ms. Cindy for LGA returned to share an inspiring message with our students. As someone who knows that "Kindness Starts With Me at Goodyear", she brought with her the powerful mission of Connor’s Kindness Project.
Connor’s Kindness Project (CKP) is a nonprofit organization that promotes kindness and community service among young people. Their Be Kind Challenge for Schools (formerly The Kindness Club) is designed to support the well-being of elementary-age children by encouraging empathy, compassion, and action through acts of kindness.
Ms. Marrama worked with our 5th-grade students—our new leaders of the Goodyear community—to introduce the Be Kind Challenge. Each student received a “kindness card” with 25 meaningful acts of kindness to complete. These small actions are designed to create a big impact within our school and beyond.
Once our students complete all 20 tasks, they’ll be recognized for their efforts with a special celebration and certificate. We’re so proud to see our student leaders embracing kindness and making a difference in the community!
Launching Learning: Insights from Our Beginning-of-Year Assessments
Digging Into Data: A Strong Start at Goodyear Elementary
Goodyear Elementary School staff kicked off the year by diving deep into DIBELS data, focusing on student growth over the summer and preparing for the upcoming literacy instruction cycle. Led by Ms. Williams and supported by Ms. Ross, Ms. Shaw, and Ms. Pappagianopoulos, the session was nothing short of inspiring. These incredible educators delivered a dynamic and engaging presentation that encouraged collaboration and data-driven planning.
Teachers worked in teams to analyze student Dibels data and thoughtfully group students for targeted literacy instruction. It was impressive to see our educators doing what they do best—supporting student learning with passion and purpose. They also took the time to align curriculum resources to ensure a smooth and effective launch of small group literacy instruction.
We're proud of the work being done and excited for the impact it will have on our students!
STAR READING
As part of our continued effort to provide targeted support during our small group literacy, Goodyear Elementary School is piloting Renaissance STAR Reading, a universal screener for grades 3-5.
STAR complements DIBELS, our foundational reading skills screener, by providing information on higher-level comprehension skills. Since we are in the pilot phase, we will not be sending home data letters. However, if you would like to see your student's STAR results, you can discuss them with your student's teacher during conferences.
We have some busy staff members who would love a helping hand with lesson prep — especially tasks like copying and laminating.
If you're available, they'll reach out to you directly. It’s a great way to get involved and support our school community on your own time!
After the Bell
After the Bell looks like a great time – an essential part of the Goodyear community, run by Ms. Gibbins and our fabulous staff! It provides enriching activities and fun with friends.

🍽️ Cafeteria Expectations Challenge: A Recipe for Success!
Goodyear's very own rockstar, Ms. Kelley, now has a dynamic new sidekick—Ms. Charlotte, who is currently interning at Goodyear. Together, they've launched a fun and meaningful Cafeteria Expectations Challenge to help students practice positive behavior during lunchtime.
Ms. Charlotte created a visual chart that's now proudly displayed in the cafeteria, helping students track their progress toward meeting behavior goals. Ms. Kelley rolled out the challenge to all grade levels with her usual energy and enthusiasm.
We’re thrilled to see students stepping up and working as a team to create a respectful and enjoyable cafeteria experience. The class that shows the most consistent positive behavior will win a special visit from none other than Lily the Therapy Dog!
🐾 Best of luck to all classes—we can’t wait to see who earns this pawsome reward!
KINDERGARTEN WINS!
Kindergarten students set a wonderful example in the cafeteria and were the first class to earn a special visit from Lily. We’re proud of their positive behavior—keep up the great work!

NEW - The Morning Roar - Check it out!
Introducing The Morning Roar
The Morning Roar is our new, modern approach to delivering daily announcements. In the past, announcements were read over the intercom by our 5th graders, which often interrupted classroom instruction and specialist time. To address this, we've moved to a video-based platform that allows teachers the flexibility to choose when to play the announcements—whether during morning work, snack time, or another moment that best fits your classroom flow.
Why the Change?
Increased Flexibility
Teachers now have control over when announcements are shared, minimizing disruptions to teaching and learning.End-of-Year Survey Feedback
This shift was guided by staff feedback from our end-of-year survey to Improve Every Day at Goodyear, where the majority expressed a preference for an on-demand model.Modernized Format
Announcements have been redesigned with an updated look to better engage students and be easier for staff to use.Student Leadership & Life Skills
The new format also opens the door for student leadership roles and real-world practice of essential life skills—like presenting and public speaking.
Setting Expectations for Students and Staff!
Building a strong foundation for success through clear goals and teamwork.
Ms. Ross - Content Specialist
At Goodyear Elementary, we believe that clear expectations are key to student and staff success. Ms. Ross, our content specialist, presented to all staff to set these expectations. She did a fabulous job outlining the conditions and delivery methods needed for success—she truly rocked it! With everyone aligned, our veteran and new team members are ready to work together using accurate data to support every learner’s growth throughout the year.
MAZE - Ms. Billings Class
Ms. Billing’s 3rd grade class is locked into the MAZE!
MAZE is part of DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills). It’s a comprehension test where words in a passage is blanked out and students pick the right word from choices to make the passage make sense.
