As we continue building a positive school, our September data highlights the importance of helping students make the most of every instructional minute. While overall referrals increased compared to last September, the data shows that tardiness during class transitions continues to be our greatest area of focus.
What We Learned in September
Tardy to Class (TAC) was the most common referral, with 41 incidents, nearly identical to last September's total of 40.
Many of the referrals recorded in hallways and breezeways were connected to students arriving late to class rather than serious misconduct. This tells us that improving transition habits can have a significant impact on reducing referrals and increasing learning time.
Our staff continues to work with students on making positive choices, resolving conflicts appropriately, and following school expectations during transitions throughout the day.
We also saw an increase in referrals involving peer conflicts and physical altercations compared to this time last year, reinforcing the importance of teaching students' healthy communication and problem-solving skills.
Families play an important role in supporting student success. You can help by:
Encouraging your child to arrive on time to each class.
Talking with your child about the importance of moving directly to class when the bell rings.
Discussing positive ways to handle disagreements and seek adult support when needed.
Checking in regularly about your child's school day and celebrating responsible choices.
Celebrating Growth
One encouraging trend is that referrals for disrespectful behavior remain lower than what we saw at the beginning of last year. This reflects the positive impact of the relationships being built between students, staff, and families.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Together, we can help every student arrive ready to learn, stay connected to school, and be successful both academically and socially.
