Principal's Update
Greetings, CHS Families~
We are officially in Marking Period 2! If your grades didn’t turn out exactly as you hoped during the first marking period, there is still plenty of time to make improvements before semester grades are finalized. Let’s keep academics and attendance a priority! Come to school every day, be on time, and give it your best effort, Chargers. Every day is an opportunity to make progress!
In the world of athletics, we’re wrapping up fall sports and gearing up for winter! Our Cross Country team competes in regionals on Saturday, with Swim and Dive regionals coming up soon. We’re hoping to see some Chargers qualify for states in both sports! Our Girls Volleyball team celebrates Senior Night tonight after earning both division and city championships, with district championships coming up next week. Best of luck to our Chargers as they continue their postseason run! Varsity Football travels to Bedford this Friday, and winter sports officially kicked off yesterday with Hockey and Gymnastics. We’re looking forward to another exciting season of Charger athletics!
A quick reminder for next week: There is no school on Tuesday, November 3, due to Election Day and a full day of professional development for staff. We will have school on Monday and the rest of the week, so enjoy the one-day break and we’ll see everyone Wednesday!

✨Frau Roosevelt✨
Making Every Student Feel Seen
If you know Frau Roosevelt, you know that teaching German at Churchill High School is about so much more than learning a language. It’s about building relationships, making connections, and making sure every student knows they matter.
Frau Roosevelt puts her heart and 100% effort into her students and her teaching every single day. One of the ways she builds relationships is by personally connecting with each student as they enter her classroom, greeting and speaking with them in German. She makes a point of checking in with every student daily, creating a welcoming environment where students feel seen and valued.
Her care for students extends far beyond the German classroom. Frau Roosevelt is a passionate advocate for all students, whether they love school or find it more challenging to connect with. She looks out for kids, supports their needs, and reminds us all of the difference a caring educator can make. We are so fortunate to have her as part of our Churchill family!
A Little More About Frau Roosevelt
🎵Music Memories: In high school, she listened to '80s soft rock. These days, you'll mostly find her listening to Christian music.
🏦First Job: Her first “real job” was at Greenfield Village, where she had fun working and learning about history. One of the best perks? Getting to practice speaking German with tourists!
💬Advice to Her High School Self: “Do your best to participate, pay attention and study. Don’t stress out!”
Thank you, Frau Roosevelt, for the heart you bring to Churchill every day and for making a difference in the lives of our students. We are proud to have you as a Charger!

Supporting a Growth Mindset
A growth mindset is the belief that skills and abilities can improve through effort, practice, and learning from mistakes. Helping children develop this mindset can build persistence, confidence, and resilience when schoolwork or other challenges feel difficult.
What Does a Growth Mindset Look Like?
Believing “I can get better with practice.”
Seeing mistakes as opportunities to learn.
Being willing to try something challenging, even when it may not come easily.
Focusing on effort, strategies, and progress rather than being “good” or “bad” at something.
How Parents Can Help
Praise the Process, Not Just the Result
Instead of saying, “You’re so smart,” try:
“I noticed how hard you worked on that.”
“You kept trying even when it was difficult.”
“What did you learn from that?”
Encourage Challenges
Help your child see difficult tasks as opportunities to grow:
“Let’s try it another way.”
“What could you do differently?”
“It’s okay if this is hard. Keep going.”
Let Them Struggle a Little
Resist the urge to immediately fix problems. Give your child time to think, try different strategies, make mistakes, and work through frustration. Solving problems independently builds confidence and persistence.
Teach “Bounce-Back” Statements
Encourage phrases such as:
“I can’t do it yet.”
“Mistakes help me learn.”
“I can try a different strategy.”
“I can take a break and try again.”
Model Persistence
Let your child see you work through your own challenges. Talk about mistakes you have made, what you learned, and how you kept going.
Acknowledge Frustration
You don't have to make frustration disappear. Try saying, “I can see this is really frustrating. What might help you keep going?”
Remember
A growth mindset doesn't mean everything will be easy. It means helping children believe that with effort, practice, and the right strategies, they can learn, grow, and improve.

Graduating Class of 2027 🎓
Senior All Night Party 🎉
The Churchill Senior All-Night Party is a special tradition that gives our graduating seniors a safe, fun, and memorable way to celebrate together after graduation—and we need parent volunteers to help make it happen!
We are looking for parents who are willing to lend a hand with planning, fundraising, and organizing throughout the school year. We need parents from ALL GRADES- not just seniors!
You do not have to take on a big job or attend every event. Our committee meets once a month, and there are many ways to contribute based on your time and interests.
Volunteers can help with:
- Planning activities and decorations
- Fundraising ideas and events
- Gathering donations and prizes
- Helping with party logistics
- Spreading the word and getting other parents involved
Whether you can attend monthly meetings, help with a fundraiser, donate your time or talents, or simply share an idea—we would love to have you!
You don’t have to be a “committee person” to make a difference! Even a little help from many parents will make a BIG difference for our seniors.
Join Us!
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please fill out this GOOGLE FORM - we will make sure you are in the loop with the SANP activities!
Let's work together to give our Churchill seniors an unforgettable night to celebrate their graduation!
Thank you for supporting our Class of 2027!
