Incentive for High School Students Incentive for High School Students

We have started a new incentive for high school students in Semester 2. Students who complete everything on their calendar for the week will be eligible to be done for that week, as soon as all their work is completed. If you missed Parent/Teacher Conferences, you will need to stop in and meet with your student's advisor to sign and go over the contract. Students cannot participate in this incentive without a signed contract and discussion w/ an advisor. This does not include any East classes students are in and parents are responsible for arranging transportation (city bus will still be available).

Attached below is the form needed with more information regarding this policy for high school students.

Sleeping In Class Sleeping In Class

zoom_out_map

While attendance is critical to learning, so is being engaged while here. We know some of our students struggle with sleep, but cannot condone school being a place where that takes place. If a student is sleeping at school, we will contact you and schedule a meeting so that you as a family can devise a plan and convey that plan to us. We will not allow students to remain in our classrooms when we have to keep waking them up. Students doing so can be cited for truancy as they are not logging into their classes. Our students' futures are far too important for us to allow a pattern of sleeping at school. If you have ideas on additional ways we can address this problem, we are happy to hear them.

Grading Policies Grading Policies

All APEX classes are expected to be closed out by the individual due date indicated for the student to graduate on time. If the student does not complete the class in time, it will be closed out with a grade of F on the transcript. The class may be re-taken according to the grade replacement policy below. Students may request one extension per class. Requests must be submitted to the Principal in writing and will be granted on a case-by-case basis for a maximum of 4 weeks.

Students are permitted to retake courses with an earned grade F (failed) that have been taken at EEA. Courses taken in other Districts or other states are not available for retake.

Grade replacement for F grades is permitted under these circumstances:

  • Student must have earned a grade of F; no grade replacement will be allowed for grades higher than this

  • The student enrolls in the identical course in which the F was earned

Other considerations regarding grade replacement policy:

  • Where the identical course is no longer available, a student will not be permitted to utilize grade replacement

  • When a student utilizes grade replacement, only the higher of the two grades earned for the course will be awarded credit and quality points (for GPA purposes) and appear on the transcript. The original class will remain on the transcript with a NCR (No Credit Received) grade but will no longer be calculated in the overall GPA.

Please feel free to reach out to your students' classroom advisor for any questions regarding their grades and credit standing.

Important information from Health Services Important information from Health Services

Important health information from Health Services for the 2024-2025 school year. Please update any new health information on the online request form, so accurate health information is received. Please review the following information about medication during the school day. OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS are available during the school day. The Wausau School District will supply generic ibuprofen and generic regular strength acetaminophen (Tylenol) for students in high school. WSD personnel will only administer the recommended therapeutic dose of the non-prescription medication. Also available is the medication consent form. This form is used for daily prescription medication or over-the-counter medication other than generic ibuprofen or acetaminophen (i.e., tums, allergy medication etc.). Both forms along with specialized forms for Allergy Action Plan, Seizure Action Plan, Asthma Action Plan and Special Dietary Request forms may be found on the Wausau School District website www.wausauschools.org under department, then health services. Blank or completed copies of these forms can be picked up/dropped off any time during the school year at the East Health Office.

Medication must be kept in the health office. Students are not allowed to have medication (prescription or over the counter) with them during the school day with the exception of: Diabetic supplies, EpiPens and Inhalers. Medication is required to be brought in by a parent/guardian. Medication may be dropped off in the health office between the hours of 7:15-3:15.

Please follow up with your healthcare provider or Marathon County Health Dept. On your child’s immunization requirements. This link for the Marathon County Health Dept. will give updated clinic dates, immunization requirements and a link to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry to view your child’s immunization record: https://www.marathoncounty.gov/services/public-health-human-services/immunizations

If you have any questions or concerns about any information, please contact the East Health Office.

EEA Resources EEA Resources

It is our goal to help connect our families with things they may need. We all fall on hard times occasionally. If there are things that we can connect you with, please let Mrs. Nilles (snilles@wausauschools.org) our school social worker know. Her job is to connect our families with resources. This can be anything from a bed for a child, to regular grocery supplies. Please, let us help! If you are worried that asking for these things will lead to issues for you, please do not worry! We are simply wanting to assist if possible.

Students were provided with information regarding school safety in the past week. They were introduced to the SUSO app to report any concerns, as well as crime stoppers.

  1. Classroom doors are to be kept closed and locked at all times.

  2. Look out the window to recognize the person before letting them enter the classroom.

  3. Anyone leaving the room should knock quietly when they return to the room

  4. If the student or staff does not feel safe in opening the door. Keep the door shut.

  5. Understand, if you are escalated, the people in the classroom do not need to open the door.

  6. If you do not feel safe opening the door, talk to the staff member(s) in the room.

  7. Students and Staff will take turns with door duty.

  8. The best ways to prevent a tragedy is to prepare, be aware and report concerns.

  9. We have provided multiple anonymous ways to report concerns.

  10. School safety is everyone’s responsibility.

If families have an URGENT concern to report, please call 911 before the school. They will likely have a faster response time.
