September 4th, 2026 Principal's Message September 4th, 2026 Principal's Message

Hello Blevins Families,

I'd like to start with thanking our incredible families and amazing PTO for kicking off our annual fundraising this week. Please see more information from our PTO in this bulletin about how to donate and how the funds raised will be used. I can't thank you enough for your support of our school!

One of the highlights of this week has been the launch of our Project-Based Learning (PBL) classes. These classes provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and engage in hands-on learning experiences that extend beyond our typical courses. It has been exciting to visit classrooms and see the creativity, collaboration, and enthusiasm our students are already demonstrating.

This semester, students are participating in a wide variety of courses, including Community Coloring and Mural Creation, Bike Repair, Creative Writing, Newspaper, Money, Money, Money, Give Next, Multimedia Production/Yearbook, Lego Robotics Programming, Healthcare Sciences, Mural Design, Intro to Tech Theater Production, Backyard Astronomy, Weightlifting, 6th Grade GT, and Sustainability. From repairing bikes and designing murals to learning about personal finance, healthcare, robotics, and astronomy, students have a wide range of opportunities to explore passions and discover new interests.

I encourage you to take a few minutes this weekend to ask your student about their PBL class. What are they learning? What projects are they working on (or will be)? What has been their favorite part so far? These conversations are a great way to learn more about how Project-Based Learning comes to life at Blevins.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We are off to an outstanding start to the school year, and it has been a joy to see our students engaged, challenged, and excited to learn.

Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Bruin Club Bruin Club

Blevins Middle School is excited to offer our after-school program, Bruin Club, starting Monday, September 14, 2026! This after-school program, which is funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant, Cohort X, offers students homework help, enrichment clubs, and community connection opportunities, while giving them a safe place to build relationships with other students. Bruin Club is a drop-in based program and will be held from 2:25pm to 5:00pm, Monday through Thursday. The fall session runs 09/14/2026 - 12/17/2026 with no programs operating on 10/13/26, 10/15/26, and 11/17/26. An email will be sent out in early September once we have finalized our enrichment offerings.

To Participate: All students must have a completed and approved 2026-2027 “Permission to Participate” form on file before attending Bruin Club.

Permission to Participate Form: The permission to participate form will be available to students in the front office. You can also download the form and print or fill it out virtually and email it to Izzy Crume at icrume@psdschools.org. Printed versions of the form can be brought to the front office at Blevins. Note: if you have multiple students at Blevins, please fill out a separate form for each student.

Transportation: If your student needs to ride the bus home from Bruin Club during our fall session, you are required to submit the “Permission to Participate” form to Izzy Crume OR the school office by Friday, 08/28/2026 by 2:25pm. Note: Bussing is not guaranteed, but if available, bussing will pick students up from Blevins at 4:45pm. Transportation start date is to be determined.

Interested in Odyssey of the Minds: Odyssey is a creative problem-solving program for students in Kindergarten through College where teams of up to seven members learn to think outside the box, work together to develop creative solutions to broadly defined problems, and present their solution in an eight-minute performance.

Through this program, students practice 21st-century skills they need to succeed today and in the future. They learn to think and work creatively, apply innovative approaches, communicate clearly and effectively, and collaborate respectfully with others.

To learn more about Odyssey of the Minds at Blevins, join us for a family information night on Wednesday, August 26th, from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Media Center.

Questions: If you have any questions regarding Bruin Club, please contact Izzy Crume at (970)657-6612 or icrume@psdschools.org.

Important October Count Information Important October Count Information

October Count is coming on OCTOBER 1st!

(PSD's count window is Sept. 24- Oct 8.)

What is October Count? It is simply making your student count in our education system. Per the Colorado Department of Education:

“The Student October Pupil Enrollment collection contains student enrollment information as of the pupil enrollment count date. This information is used to determine the school demographics, number of students in instructional programs, free and reduced lunch counts, and distribution of school finances across the state.”

Its very important to have your student in school during this time so your student and Blevins are accurately represented. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Brian Crego 970-488-4008.

2026-2027 Blevins Yearbook 2026-2027 Blevins Yearbook

Welcome back Bruins! While May seems so far away, the Yearbook purchase deadline will creep up faster than you think! Now is the best time to pre-order your yearbook for three reasons:

  1. You are guaranteed a yearbook! We don’t order enough for every student, so ordering in advance guarantees your student will receive one.
  2. You can get FREE icons to customize your student’s book. Add music notes, a football, or other symbols to reflect their unique interests with the code YBKICONS at checkout when personalization is purchased
  3. The yearbook is CHEAPER! After winter break, the cost of the Yearbook will go up! Order your yearbook now and avoid the price increase later in the year.

We appreciate your support of yearbook as students create the entire book start to finish. We can’t wait to share this year’s work with you!
