Dear Adventure Families,

Inside our school walls, summer feels like a distant memory and the learning of a new school year is in full swing! Even the preschoolers and kindergarteners are settling into a productive learning routine with smiles on their faces!

Coming up on September 17 is Adventure's big annual Fun Run fundraiser! Students are very excited for this fun day and the opportunity to get financial support from their close friends and family fora year of special school activities, field trips, performances, and other motivators. The schedule and volunteer sign-up will be shared after Labor Day. Read below for more details!

There is also a Kindergarten Dual Language parent meeting scheduled after school on Thursday, September 10. We encourage all kindergarten parents to attend to learn more about Adventure's unique dual language enrichment model and how to best support their emerging bilingual student at home.

Adventure's Annual Fun Run Fundraiser is September 17! Adventure's Annual Fun Run Fundraiser is September 17!

Each year, our school holds one school fundraiser to raise money to support the costs for field trips, guest speakers, student rewards and incentives, and other special activities and celebrations. Again this year, Adventure will hold a Fun Run on Thursday, September 17 during the school day. We're asking students to get pledges from family and friends. Each class, PK-6, will have a turn to run laps and participate in the fun! Our school goal is to raise $13,000 and the suggested donation from each student is $25.

Donations can be made via our website partner, 99 Pledges. In this way, you will be able to reach out to friends and family by email, Facebook, and text instead of going door-to-door and handling cash/checks. Simply make a donation for any amount you can and share your student’s link with friends and family. We are shooting for 100% participation, so no amount is too small.

Donations will be accepted online or via cash or check (made out to Adventure Elementary) to the front office through September 18.

Our students love this event and, back by popular demand, this year we're excited to have the colored chalk that volunteers will throw while students run! More details coming after Labor Day!

Adventure's Cell Phone and Smartwatch Policy Adventure's Cell Phone and Smartwatch Policy

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Following parent/guardian, student, and staff surveys, conversations with school leaders, and more than a year of research on cell phone use in schools, Mapleton’s Board of Education adopted a new policy on student cell phones and personal technology devices.

Policy JICJ, Student Use of Cell Phones and Other Personal Technology Devices, recognizes that personal devices can be useful tools for learning. At the same time, the policy affirms that keeping personal technology devices put away during the school day is one of the most effective ways to maintain safe, supportive, and focused learning environments where all students can thrive.

Adventure's policy includes:

Cell phones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds and earphones, personally owned tablets and laptops, and any other device not issued by the district must be out of sight and turned off during the school day while students are in school buildings.

You can read the entirety of this policy online.

Celebrating Student Growth & Success!

We are incredibly proud of our students and the hard work they put into their learning last school year!

Attendance is an important part of this success! When students are at school consistently, they have more opportunities to learn, practice new skills, build relationships, and participate in the rich learning experiences happening in our classrooms. Our continued focus on improving attendance has helped create more opportunities for students to be successful.

CMAS Results Coming Home next week!
Families of students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, please be on the lookout for your child’s CMAS paper-copy results next Friday. These reports provide information about your child’s performance in relation to Colorado’s grade-level expectations and can help you understand areas of strength as well as opportunities for continued growth.

Additionally, families can access view your child’s results using CDE Family Portal.

Logging in to the CDE Family Portal

  1. Visit the Family Portal: https://familyportal.pearson.com/CO

  2. Parents will need the following information to log in:

    1. Student’s First and Last Name

    2. Student’s Date of Birth

    3. Student’s State ID (SASID)- if a parent does not know their student’s SASID- follow the below directions:

      1. Login to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal https://icampus.mapleton.us/campus/portal/mapleton.jsp

      2. Once logged in, find and click on the "Today" tab, usually located just below the Message Center.

      3. On the "Today" page, you will see your student's name and their Student ID number (SASID) displayed underneath.

      4. Multiple Students? If you have multiple children, use the dropdown menu (often an arrow on the right side) to select the specific student whose ID you need.

CMAS Is One Piece of the Puzzle

While CMAS results provide valuable information about student learning, one assessment does not tell the whole story of a child. We encourage families to look at CMAS results alongside classroom learning, teacher feedback, student work, attendance, and your child’s individual growth over time.

Please take some time to review your child’s CMAS report when it comes home next week, celebrate their hard work, and talk with them about the progress they have made. We are so proud of our Adventure students and grateful for the partnership of our families!

School Safety School Safety

The safety of your children is our number one priority. We believe that school safety is the responsibility of each of us, so I'm sharing some of our procedures this week to help assure you that we are prepared. Teachers also talk with the students about school safety on a regular basis. If you ever have school safety concerns, please reach out by calling the main office and asking to speak to either the principal or assistant principal. We recognize that this topic brings fear and anxiety and we are sensitive to individuals who need additional support.

One of the most important ways families can support our school's safety is by following our visitor procedures. All visitors to the school are required to register in the office and wear a visitor pass.

All exterior doors are locked at our school, with the exception being the first door to the main office. Please use the intercom to gain access to the front office. Also, when leaving the building, please make sure that all doors close tightly behind you.

Adventure works closely with a team of School Resource Officers from the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Hessler is our primary SRO and families can expect to see him and his colleagues at Adventure frequently, they often visit for non-emergency reasons.

Safety Drills

Each year, our school practices school safety drills; these rehearsals help everyone feel more comfortable with the protocols, in the event of a true emergency. We practice evacuation drills each month, shelter protocols twice a year, and secure and lockdown drills annually (as required by law).

  • Shelter: this protocol is used most often in the event of a tornado or bad weather. All students and staff move to the ground floor and away from windows and doors.
  • Evacuate: this protocol is used in case of fire. Everyone quickly leaves the building and moves away from it.
  • Secure: Administration or Adams County Sheriff's Department call a "secure" drill when there is police activity in the vicinity of the school. No one is allowed in or out of the building; so, outdoor recess is cancelled and school visitors aren't permitted. Aside from additional precaution about entering or leaving the building, students and staff hold business as usual indoors. Usually, "secure" events are brief.
  • Lockdown: This protocol is used when there is danger inside our school building. At the push of a button, all exterior and pod doors close and lock. Students and staff move out of sight from any exterior windows and remain quiet until Adams County Sheriff's Department releases us.

In addition to these drills, we also have protocols that we follow in the event of threats. A school-based team investigates each and every threat to determine credibility and identify next steps. Mapleton Safety and Security as well as Mental Health team members join our threat assessment team as requested.
