Class of 2027 What's Happening
August 13, 2026
Welcome Back!
July 2026
Dear Member of KHS Class of 2027 and their Families,
Can you believe your Senior year begins in just a few short weeks? Three years ago, the Class of 2027 arrived at KHS as neophyte Pioneers unfamiliar with many of our classmates, some of our traditions, and parts of ourselves. By nurturing your curiosities and taking advantage of the world-class education and co-‐curricular experiences Kirkwood offers, you have grown into confident, thoughtful, young adults who are leaving a positive mark on our school, community and world.
Your growth as a person, learner, athlete, friend, sister or son results not only from your hard work and willingness to try new things, but also through the support of your family, friends, and the KHS community. As Seniors, make it a point to see and celebrate the many people who are helping you grow into the person who you are becoming.
This will be a year like none you have experienced as you assume the leadership role at KHS and prepare for the next stage in your life. Growth and change are hard as they challenge us to push beyond what is known, safe, and comfortable. During such transitions, it is normal to feel a mix of emotions; excited, and energized one moment and scared or frustrated the next. Some of the changes we experience are decided by us, while others are decided for us.
As a unified group, our grit will ensure that we will be the BEST class in the history of KHS. To accomplish this feat we must continue on the path of excellence we have traveled for the last three years. Be kind to yourself, treat people civilly, follow your passions, and work hard. Remember that as Pioneers you still have a whole year of learning ahead of you. Enjoy each other and the magical parts of your senior year but do not neglect your academics. How you finish a task is important. Stay committed to yourself and to our school. It will make your walk across the stage at Chaifetz Arena all the more meaningful on May 8, 2027.
Our next optional class meetings will be on Tuesday, August 11 from 1:00-2:00pm and on Wednesday, August 19 from 2:00-3:00 in David Holley Gym. We will plan for the first day of school and the welcoming of the Class of 2030. Safari has been identified as the theme to begin the year. Come with ideas to make it a welcoming, memorable and enjoyable day! We look forward to seeing everyone! We have also added a list of dates and specifics associated with your senior year. I want to take a moment to welcome and introduce our new Grade Level Counselor, Mr. Matt Earnhart. Prior to coming to KHS, Mr. Earnhart has served as a math teacher at Nipher Middle School. He enjoys playing and watching sports, hanging out with friends and doing puzzles. I am excited for you to meet Mr. Earnhart and for him to share in the memory making of our Senior Year.
This will be a great year! We are Built to be Legends, Class of ‘27.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Gavin, Associate Principal-Class of 2027
