A Message from our Principal A Message from our Principal

Dear Families,

We are off to a fantastic start to the new school year! Itโ€™s been wonderful to see our students settling into their routines, engaging in learning, and contributing positively to our school community. Thank you for your continued support in making the beginning of the year so successful.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to share that on Friday, November 3rd, from 1:30โ€“2:30 PM, we will welcome representatives from the Erie County District Attorneyโ€™s Office to our auditorium for a special anti-bullying and cyberbullying presentation. This important event is specifically designed for students in Grades 6โ€“8, and it aims to raise awareness, promote kindness, and empower our students to make safe and respectful choices both online and in person.

We believe that these conversations are essential in fostering a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Thank you for being our partners in education!

Regards,

Mr. Caprio

MS Principal

Student of the month will begin to be announced next month!

Cell Phone Policy ๐Ÿ“ฑ Cell Phone Policy ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, New York State has now implemented a Bellโ€‘toโ€‘Bell cell phone ban, from the moment school starts until dismissal. According to regulations students must turn off and store away any personal internetโ€‘enabled devicesโ€”such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and earbudsโ€”on school grounds during school hours. In Akron Central Schools, we will require these devices are off in student lockers. This includes all instructional and nonโ€‘instructional times: class, lunch, recess, passing periods, and study halls.

Character Counts ๐Ÿ’ซ Character Counts ๐Ÿ’ซ

What is it?

Each month, our school will focus on one positive character traitโ€”such as respect, responsibility, kindness, fairness, citizenship, or trustworthiness. Throughout the month, students will be encouraged to practice and model this trait both inside and outside the classroom.

To celebrate, students can earn Tiger Tickets whenever they demonstrate the featured character trait. These tickets serve as a recognition of their efforts and commitment to making our school community a better place.

October

For the month of October, the Akron Middle School is focusing on the pillar of Respect. Students can earn Tiger Tickets for demonstrating respect by:

  • Listening Attentively
  • Using polite language and treating others kindly
  • Following rules
  • Coming to class on time and prepared

What are Tiger Tickets?

Tiger Tickets can be earned from teachers in their classroom, faculty and staff by demonstrating the character counts traits or good behavior. With these tickets students can:

  • Purchase rewards from teachers
  • Purchase Akron T-shirts from the main office
  • Put Tiger Tickets into a drawing to win a gift card

A Note from the SRO

Trick or Treating Safety

  • Wear a costume thatโ€™s bright and reflective.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Utilize the โ€œbuddy systemโ€ and DONโ€™T walk alone or wander away from the group.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street and use a crosswalk if available. Donโ€™t assume cars will stop!
  • Trick-or-treat on well-lighted roads and plan a route before heading out.
  • Plan a spot to meet for an emergency or someone gets separated from the group.
  • Do not go inside someoneโ€™s home or vehicle for any reason.
  • Wait to eat any can or treats until a parent, guardian or other adult checks it! It is uncommon, but candy or treats CAN be tampered with. Be cautious of the way candy or treats are packaged, opened, or damaged.
  • If carrying a cell-phone, make sure it is fully charged before leaving your house.

**If you notice someone or something suspicious, call 911 and find a safe adult!**

A Message from Student Support

October is Bullying Prevention Month! This month we highlight the impacts that bullying can have on our students - such as anxiety, depression, and lowered self-esteem. Combating bullying requires students, teachers, parents, and school administrators working together to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Speak up, support others, and report bullying to your trusted adult when you see it. One small act of kindness can create a ripple effect; be the reason someone smiles today.

The Gab from Middle School Government

Our 2025 homecoming spirit week was a success! Many students and staff members showed their spirit for our school and Tigers. A great way for us to start the new school year!

We are very excited to announce that this month MS Student Government will be hosting the AMS Halloween dance and bake sale! This event will cost $5 and will begin on October 24th from 6:30-8:30! Tickets will be sold in all lunches the week before the dance. We hope to see many middle schoolers there in their Halloween costumes! Come for food & come for fun!
