Dear Center Community,

People often say that things wind down in schools come June—but that couldn’t be further from the truth at Center! Last week was filled with fun, learning, and community spirit. We enjoyed spirited theme days, welcomed a miniature therapy horse, Center Authors shared their wriitng, had a fantastic field day, and ended the week on a high note with our 4th grade Finale.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible CSPTO and the many volunteers who made these events—and so many others throughout the year—such a success. Your time, energy, and support mean the world to us. We are truly fortunate to be part of such a caring and connected community.

This is our last official update of the school year, but we’ll be in touch over the next few weeks to share dates for our summer read-alouds and new family tours.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer!

Field Day

Hip Hip Hurray to Tanya Kivi, our amazing Field Day Chief. Ms. Kivi's tireless efforts and meticulous planning ensured that our field day was fun-filled and ran smoothly from start to finish. The book swap was once again a big success due to your generous donations and the volunteers to assisted with this activity. Our sincerest appreciation to the numerous volunteers who gave their time and energy to run stations, and to our CSPTO for providing popsicles. The day was a resounding success as evidenced by the abundant smiles and laughter of students. Again, our appreciation to all, and especially Ms. Kivi for their contributions in creating a memorable experience.

Spirit Days

Each year, our 4th grade students vote on spirit days for the last week of school. Here they are below. Many classes in younger grades may have a different spirit day. Happy to have all the spirit at Center we can get the last few days of school. :)

Monday 6/16: neon Day

Tuesday 6/17: Hawaiian Day

Center Chirps

  • Please be sure to check the lost and found for missing items of clothing. All remaining clothing will be donated at the end of the year.
  • Please return any borrowed books from the Center library.
  • June 17th, Tuesday, is the last day of school for all students. Students will be dismissed at 11:45.

What's ahead this week:

Clap Out:

We are pleased to hold our annual clap out for fourth grade students on Tuesday, June 17th. Students will parade from their classrooms down both corridors of the school while staff and students cheer them on. They will proceed outside our kindergarten wing doors, pass the front of the school and back to the kindergarten doors.

Families, you are invited to cheer them on outside of the school.

  • Please arrive no later than 11:15.

  • Please park in the upper parking lot or the town hall, if the upper parking lot is full.

  • There is a path from the town parking lot to the campus.

  • Please sign the dismissal sheets available, on the designated table to the right of the building, if you plan to take your child home following the clap out.

  • Please spread out starting from door #11 toward the front of the building to cheer on our 4th graders.

  • Please check in with your child’s teacher if you are dismissing your child immediately after the parade and leave the campus no later than 11:40 so we can prepare for dismissal of all other students.

  • We can not dismiss siblings at this time. Please follow our regular pick-up procedures. Remember to bring your golden ticket.

Move up Day for K-3:

On the last day of school, we have a "Move Up Day" where students get to meet their new teacher and classmates for the upcoming year. This day is designed to help students transition smoothly and alleviate any anxiety they may have about the next school year. Students will come home with a welcome letter from their new teacher. Please check your child's backpack for this information. Please be assured that we take a great amount of pride in making sure that placement is completed with care and the interests of each individual child in mind and took your placement feedback into account as was feasible. We ask that you assist us with reassuring your child that whoever they have for a teacher next year will be a positive experience.

We kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation in this process. If you submitted a placement letter by the May 6th deadline and we were not able to accommodate your requests, you may reach out after June 30th to share your concerns. Thank you for your partnership in making this transition as smooth as possible.

Warm Regards,

Dianna and Donna

A Note from Ms. Huguet

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we wrap up another exciting school year at Center Elementary, I want to take a moment to thank you for your support and wish you a wonderful, restful summer.

It has been an absolute joy watching your children grow as learners this year. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and hard work have made a big impact—not just in the classroom, but in their overall academic progress. We have so much to celebrate!

One of the highlights of the year has been the impressive progress many students made in their reading. The median percent toward typical growth in reading was an outstanding 134%! This is a true reflection of their dedication and the support they’ve received at home and at school. We are so proud of their accomplishments.

While reading growth has been strong for many students, writing remains an area where continued practice will make a big difference. I encourage you to help your child write regularly over the summer. Simple daily writing activities—like journaling about a fun summer day or writing a short paragraph about a book they’ve read—can go a long way in building skills and confidence.

To keep the momentum going, please continue to use i-Ready and ReadingA-Z.com throughout the summer. These resources provide great opportunities for your child to practice reading in a fun and engaging way.

Thank you again for a wonderful year. Have a fantastic summer filled with fun, relaxation, and learning adventures!

Warmly,
Alessandra Huguet

Center School Extended Day Families

Extended Day will be closing promptly at 3:00 pm on the last day of school, Tuesday, June 17th. Please plan to pick up your child no later than this time.

Thank you for sharing your children with us this school year. It has been a wonderful year watching your children grow, make new friends and thrive at the program. We will miss our 4th grade students next year but wish them the best of luck at middle school.

Have a wonderful summer - see you in August.

Say WHOA to Bullying

Thank you to our thoughtful 4S students who took the initiative to write a persuasive letter advocating for a visit from mini therapy horses to Center School. Inspired by a guided reading group on the topic, their writing was so compelling that the request was shared with our PTO—who graciously agreed to fund the enrichment opportunity.

Students enjoyed meeting Mr. Buttons] and learned valuable lessons about supporting one another and standing up to bullying.

*Medication pick-up will not be available during dismissal. Items not picked up by 3pm on Wednesday, June 17th will be disposed of per district policy.

  2. Plan for next year! If your child has asthma, diabetes, an allergy that requires epinephrine, seizures, or another medical condition that requires special care or medication, the condition related health form must be completed EVERY YEAR and returned to the health office by the first day of school. Forms may be found on the district website: https://chelmsfordschools.org/departments/health-services/health-forms/

Current Grade 2 Parents - 3rd Graders need Physicals!

In accordance with Massachusetts General Law (Chapter 71, section 57) and related amendments and regulations (105 CMR 200.000-200.920), Chelmsford requires all 3rd grade students to have a current physical on file in our health office. Please keep this in mind when making appointments over the summer for physicals. Incoming 3rd graders should have a physical dated January 2025 to December 2025, and a copy needs to be submitted to the health office by December 2025.
