Dear Collins Intermediate Families,
Thank you to all of our amazing parents and students for a fantastic first (short) week at Collins Intermediate! We appreciate your flexibility, your positive attitudes, and the effort you’ve already shown. It’s been a great start, and we’re so excited for another wonderful week and a fun, successful year ahead!
Take care,
Chelsea Harness
Principal, Collins Intermediate
Safety
Bikers: Please make sure to remind your student to park and lock their bike in a bike rack.
Car Riders: Be sure to have your car rider sign with your student's ID number displayed on the driver side of your windshield. Please do not stop the staff members to find the number in your phone as it slows down the dismissal process.
Building Strong Routines from Day One
Starting strong with routines helps students feel confident and organized.
- Set a daily homework time (after a snack, should be 30 minutes or less).
- Create a consistent homework space (quiet, no TV).
- Check your child’s planner each evening.
- Help your child organize their backpack weekly. Keep graded assignments in a separate stack at home until the end of each nine weeks!
💡 Research shows that consistent routines improve focus, reduce anxiety, and support academic performance.
Collins Cafeteria Links🍕🍔🍊
Any students not clear from previous years will not be allowed to check out library books from Collins' library until their record is cleared. Notices will be passed out Friday, August 14th. If your student owes books to another campus, return them to Collins' librarian and she will mail them to their home campus. If they are lost or damage, they must be paid for. Acceptable forms of payment are: cash in the EXACT amount (schools cannot make change), checks made payable to the book(s)' home campus, with DOB and DL# on check, or let the books' home campus librarian know that you wish to pay with a credit card. Then the campus secretary can put the transaction on your student's school cash online account. The campus secretary will notify the librarian once payment is received. Thank you for taking care of your CISD library record!
What a great start to the new year! We are excited to have students back on campus, and have enjoyed catching up and getting to know new faces. If you need assistance with school lunches, or supplies please visit the following link. https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict Applications need completed each year, so if you received assistance last year and are still in need, please don't forget to reapply.
Collins Clubs
🎉 Collins Club Applications Open Monday!
We’re excited to announce that club applications will open Monday! Clubs are a wonderful way for students to get involved, meet new people, and try something new.
We also want clubs to be an opportunity for our students to practice independence, responsibility, and initiative. Please encourage your child to be the one who:
- Learns about clubs through our morning announcements and opportunities at school.
- Completes and submits their own application.
- Communicates directly with club sponsors using their student email.
- Keeps track of meeting dates and other important information.
We kindly ask that parents not reach out to club sponsors on their child’s behalf. Instead, encourage your child to ask questions, seek out information, and communicate with sponsors independently. These are important skills we want our students to develop, and clubs provide a great, low-stakes opportunity to practice them!
Students will receive information about clubs at school and will have the opportunity to learn more and apply on their own. We’re excited to see our Cobras get involved and take ownership of their experiences! 🐍
As clubs are added, applications can be found at: bit.ly/collinsclubs26
Welcome back, Cobras! We are excited to kick off another active and successful year at Collins Intermediate! We will begin the year with Four Square and then move into our Badminton unit. This week, we discussed the importance of bringing a water bottle to PE every day. We also reviewed our expectation that all students will actively participate in PE each day, regardless of their choice of footwear. Stay active and healthy!
We are looking forward to an exciting year of teaching art to your child at Collins. We believe art education should be fun, empowering, but also relevant to our students’ lives both in and outside of the classroom. Our program is designed to develop and improve creative and technical skills in the beginner or experienced art student.
Hello Orchestra Families! I am so excited to begin this next year with your students whether they are returning or starting their new adventure. The Orchestra Fee and Cello/Bass Maintenance fee will be available on SchoolCashOnline.
Welcome to the Collins Intermediate Band!
We are so excited to have you join our band family this year. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or continuing your musical journey, you're in for an incredible year of learning, performing, and having fun.
Please note that your Band Fee will be posted on School Cash Online soon. This fee helps cover materials and includes your official Collins Band shirt—and we’ll collect your shirt size through the payment process as well. We can’t wait to make music with you! 🎶
Important Information❗
School Cash Online: If your child is in Art/Music, Band, Choir, or Orchestra SCO items will be posted to your account in the coming weeks once all schedules are set. If your students is using a school issued instrument for Band or Orchestra, you should have already received a notification for the yearly instrument maintenance fee. Robotics or other clubs with an associated fee will be added once teams have been set.
Morning Drop Off 🚌🚗🚲🚶
Dismissal Information 🚌🚗🚲🚶
Please be patient as we get our Cobras home safely! 🙂Our dismissal procedures are designed with both efficiency and student safety in mind. We’ve worked hard to create a system that gets everyone where they need to go smoothly and securely. It’s important that parents understand how the process works so we can keep things running safely and on time every day. Be sure to become familiar with all dismissal procedures in the event that your child's dismissal changes at any point in the year. Thanks for helping us make dismissal a success for everyone!
Dismissal Reminders:
- Be patient as buses adjust to their schedules. If you aren't sure of your student's bus, click here.
- Bus riders MUST use their SMART tag while getting on and off the bus every day!
- You should always have a car rider sign (with the student ID #) in your window for car rider dismissal. If you forgot your sign, write it on a piece of paper so the staff member on duty can quickly read it as they walk by and communicate with the person inside.
- Please pull all the way up to your assigned cone in car rider pick up, students will come to you!
- Bike riders should always park their bike at the bike rack at the same spot where they will dismiss in the afternoon.
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
Dismissal in Bad Weather
In the event of inclement or severe weather, be sure to check your email for updates on whether or not we will have rainy day dismissal.
If there is extreme weather (wind, hail, lightning, extreme rain) predicted to occur at 4:05 PM we will not allow students to walk or bike ride home - parents will be required to only use the car line.
Every parent should have a car rider sign, and it should be visible in the car rider line. If you are picking up additional students due to rainy day dismissal, please write each student’s ID number as large as possible on a piece of paper. Families without the car rider signs and without the student ID slows the process down substantially.
We will do our best to make a "Rainy Day Dismissal" decision by 3:45PM to alert families of the change. Please have a "Plan B" established with your child so they will know how they are getting home when a "Rainy Day Dismissal" is called.
