From the Principal
WHEW!
This first week of the year was both hot and stormy and yet we all came out shiny like a new coin (I know it was mostly sweat 🙂). During the delayed dismissal Thursday afternoon I had the privilege of seeing all (close to 500) students multiple times. One of the beliefs that I live and you can often hear me saying is Relationships Matter Most . Nothing was more true during our time of delay. Staff who know students sought out those who needed to be comforted, we know that storms or crowds or changes in routine can be hard for them. So much care and intentionality went into that time together and I want to share with you just how AMAZING this Burns Park Community is. There were no asks, just caring humans stepping in at the right time for the right people.
Thank you to all the parents who came in for shelter. Thank you for allowing the staff to support students without interruptions. This helped to keep everything and everyone calm and orderly.
This might be a trauma bond that no one had on their bingo card and yet we can all mark that space.
Thank you for trusting us with the extensions of your hearts. We do not take the responsibility lightly.
I also wanted to highlight the community that we have been building this week. At Burns Park, community is the cornerstone that we build everything upon. This week the special area and special education teachers along with our literacy coach and English language teacher planned team building activities to form and strengthen strong grade level communities. Each grade level met together in the auditorium with the above staff to do team building activities that centered around this year's theme:
I Belong Here & This is How I Show Up. Ask your student what stood our to them about their time at school this week.

Volunteers Needed
Hello Families,
Burns Park is looking for a few good humans who can help during lunch and lunch recess. Our lunch hour runs from 11:00-1:30 daily. If you're available for a portion or the entire time, we would be grateful for your help.
If you happen to have daily availability we also have paid positions.
Let Principal Bullock know if you're interested.
A La Carte Milk
Milk
As a reminder breakfast and lunch are both free to all students this year. Students who bring their lunch to school but would like milk to drink will be billed. If you do not want your student getting an a la carte milk please 1) tell them that they are not to get milk from school 2) send an email to their classroom teacher who can pass that information along to our cafeteria staff. This is especially meant for the young fives and kindergarten students who are not sure what's happening right now. They see and want everything. We will allow them to get what they ask for if we are not asked to do otherwise.
Curriculum Night
Note: These are group events and individual student progress will not be discussed. Those conversations will happen during Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will take place later this fall.
