Dear TPS Staff & Families:

Throughout this month, it has been a joy meeting students and families across the district at our summer school programs. We thank all of our incredible staff who came back over the summer. From teaching in our Extended School Year programs to leading engaging fine arts, athletics, and academic experiences, your work has made a lasting impact on our scholars.

We also enjoyed connecting with staff, families, and community members during our first Listening Tour of the summer and appreciate everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and feedback. We hope to see many of you at our next Listening Tour on July 16, and additional details are included in the newsletter below.

As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, remember to register early in order to receive your school of choice. Registration is available online at topekapublicschools.net.

School resumes on Tuesday, August 11 for students in grades K, 6, and 9, Capital City, and Avondale Academy, as well as new high school students at Hope Street; Wednesday, August 12 for all students K-12; and Wednesday, August 19 for preschool. Important information such as arrival and dismissal times, meal information, and school supply lists are available on our website. We are grateful for the many organizations that are providing school supplies through various local efforts, including Stuff the Bus and United for a Successful School Year.

We hope all of our staff and families enjoy the upcoming Juneteenth and July 4th holidays, and we look forward to seeing many of you at activities in our community. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful summer!

Dr. Tiffany Anderson

Superintendent

TPS Students Celebrate Juneteenth with Reflection, Learning & Celebration

This week, Topeka Public Schools students and staff celebrated Juneteenth, a national holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the US and celebrates African American freedom, culture, and achievement.

At Ross Elementary, students gathered for a powerful all-school assembly that brought Juneteenth history to life and focused on youth empowerment, helping students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of freedom, resilience, and cultural pride. Students at Jardine also enjoyed learning about Juneteenth, and even made Juneteenth parfaits in the Kids Cooking summer course.

Throughout the week, students engaged in hands-on experiences that honored their heritage, including cooking traditional foods, learning native languages, and creating meaningful projects rooted in Indigenous history.
