A Message From the Principal

Dear YWLA Families,

I hope you were able to enjoy your holiday and winter break. I am very excited to welcome our students and staff back to YWLA.

As you may know, we returned back to campus on a mission to ensure that our girls are being celebrated for their accomplishments and receive additional support to improve their performance.

  • All students received new schedules upon their return on 1/5/2022. The schedule change was made to replace one elective course with additional time in math. Therefore, all students are receiving 90 minutes of math instruction each day.
  • Report cards were published in HAC and sent home on 1/11/2022.
  • Students took the PSAT Reading and Math on 1/11/2022.
  • YWLA celebrated the POWER of the PEARLS on 1/14/2022 to recognize excellence in academics, behavior and school culture.

We are so proud of our young women for their achievements during the first semester:

  • 42% Merit Roll, A/B Honor Roll, Straight A Honor Roll
  • 96.2% Attendance Rate and 29% Perfect Attendance
  • Shiny PEARLS Award ~ Johanna Paredes (6th Grade) and Melany Dotta Figueroa (7th Grade)
  • Teacher Awards - Outstanding and Most Improved
  • Spelling Bee Champions ~ Rihana Calvo (First Place) and Rosalinda Cardosa (Runner Up)
  • 11 students placed first or second in the Houston Livestock & Rodeo Art Show. Annaleigh Valdez (Middle School Finalist) and Lailah Graves (Gold Medal)

YWLA is also proud to be selected as Building of the Month for the month of January. YWLA's custodial crew was recognized by the school board for exemplary maintenance work, attitude, cooperation, attendance and building.

FYI: We are in the season of recruitment. The SchoolMint online application is now open for new enrollees for 2022-2023 school year. YWLA applications are only for new students.

Our next parent engagement meeting is scheduled Wednesday, 1/26 at 1:00 PM. This meeting will only be virtual and recorded.
