The Buzz
Summer Term - 11th June 2026
Message from the Executive Headteacher
We have enjoyed another very busy week here at HISN and looking forward to the excitement of our sports afternoons next week.
This week the children in Reception will enjoy a visit to Carlisle Park which is a firm favourite, this visit for the children can only happen with the support of the parents of the children and we are delighted that you can join us. I know the children will have a wonderful time. Look out for photographs from the visit on our website gallery.
Year 1 children have been working hard this week and taking the Phonics Screening Check, this is the real focus for year 1. If children are not able to decode accurately it slows their progress significantly. Thank you all the year 1 parents who have been working hard with their children at home and parents will receive the results as part of the reports.
Please look out for information in the weekly update for year 2 parents regarding the move to year 3, this is an exciting time for both parents and children and the transition programme is well planned. Year 2 scooter training will also happen this week which is part of helping the children take more responsibility for themselves. Click here to view the website gallery.
Sadly, we have been informed of another unpleasant parking incident on Priory road which resulted in a parent being verbally abused by someone parked across a driveway, this happened in front of their children. This sort of incident is becoming more frequent and is completely unacceptable. Do not park across the drives of the residents under any circumstances, even for a minute.
I look forward to seeing you at many of the upcoming school events and including the school fair on Saturday 27th June.
Enjoy the weekend once it arrives.

Nursery
The main topic of conversation in the nursery has been the fun packed Thursday we had last week with the farm animals visiting our garden and the trip to the hall to climb the Digi wall. The children were able to brush the pigs, goats and dogs and stroke the chicks and ducks. This experience was a perfect introduction to how we care for animals and ensure that different animals needs are met. The children have been able to continue their learning within our vet surgery role play area. View our gallery here.
We were very impressed with the children's resilience on the Digi wall with many of the children able to access the medium level of lights without help - which were pretty high!
We are beginning to learn some sounds within phonics and adding groups of farm animals together in maths.
Reception
After a Mediterranean half term, we’re back to thunder and raindrops! I wonder if the Ladybird and all the farm creatures could be heard on a stormy night? In phonics, we have found new sounds “ai” “ee” “ow” and “oi” on the board helping us to write “pail,” “tree,” “snow” and “queen”. There are also Alien words and Earth words to decode; we have enjoyed thinking about what they could mean.
In maths, the rekenreks have come out of the cupboard and we have been learning how to set them up and using them to count and subitise.
We all loved climbing on the digi-wall and switching off the coloured lights here is the digiwall gallery.
The biggest excitement of the week was welcoming Little Sherwood Farm and all their animals. We loved meeting the chicks, ducklings, sheep, rabbits, goats, piglets and the dogs Bingo and Spirit. When we were lining up to go home, we waved goodbye as they set off home in their trailer. View our gallery here.
Parent workshops on school avoidance
Ruils are running two parent workshops designed by educational psychologist Dr Jerricah Holder, specifically to support you - both are online via zoom and open for parents and carers to book now.
Session 1: When School Feels Hard: Support in the Early Stages of Attendance worries
Wednesday 24 June, 10-12pm.
This session is aimed at parents/carers experiencing early-stage / emerging school avoidance: where attendance difficulties are beginning to surface or increasing in frequency, often including increased morning worries at home, reluctance to come to school/some days of absence, and needing significant coaxing or support to attend.
Session 2: The Road Back: Supporting Your Family When School Feels Out of Reach
Thursday 24th September, 10-12pm
This session is for families who are experiencing established / entrenched non-attendance: where difficulties have been present for a longer period, attendance is significantly reduced or completely absent, and child is experiencing escalating mental health needs.
Please note that these workshops are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. If we do not receive sufficient interest the sessions may need to be postponed or cancelled.
Amazon Wish Lists
Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.
This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.
If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:
Parking
Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
