Boulevard Weekly Newsletter
1 Person 1% Better Everyday
Principal's Corner
Greetings Boulevard Families,
It has been another productive week of learning at Boulevard! Our students continue to demonstrate focus, perseverance, and growth as they work toward becoming 1% better every day. Below is a snapshot of what students have been learning across grade levels along with ways families can support learning at home.
Kindergarten Phonics Fun!
This week, Kindergarten students practiced vowel sounds and double consonants, using them to read and build words like bill, off, and all. They shared sentences orally with partners and the class, showing their growing phonics skills.
Ohio Standard: K.RF.3 – Apply phonics and word analysis skills to decode words.
Parent Tip: Have your child read short words at home and make simple sentences aloud—it helps reinforce what they’re learning in class!
2nd Grade Learning Spotlight – Place Value & Problem Solving
Second grade students worked in small groups
Students practiced:
-
Place value understanding
-
Addition strategies such as “making a ten”
-
Subtraction with regrouping
This structure allowed students to receive targeted support while also practicing independently.
Ohio Learning Standard:
Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics 2.NBT.B – Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.
Parent Tip:
Have your child explain how they solve a math problem. When children talk through their thinking, it strengthens their understanding and confidence in math strategies.
Grades 3–5 Learning Spotlight – Math Interim Assessments
Students in grades 3–5 completed their math interim assessments this week. We are proud of the focus and effort students showed as they worked to demonstrate what they have learned so far this year. These assessments help teachers better understand student progress and guide upcoming instruction.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent Conferences will take place on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20.
If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to work together to support student success. During this time, teachers will share your child’s academic progress, strengths, and areas for growth while also answering any questions you may have.
Looking Ahead
As a reminder, next week is a shorter week for students due to conferences, and it will be followed by Spring Break. We hope everyone enjoys this upcoming pause in the school schedule and returns ready for continued learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our Boulevard learners!
With appreciation,
Principal Mahoney-Curry
Directora Mahoney-Curry
Women's History Month
Women’s History Month is celebrated every March in the United States to honor the contributions, achievements, and impact of women throughout history.
- The celebration began as Women’s History Week in 1980, proclaimed by Jimmy Carter.
In 1987, Congress officially expanded the celebration to a full month.
- March was chosen to include International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on March 8.
- Each year, the National Women's History Alliance selects a national theme to highlight women’s achievements in specific areas such as education, science, government, or the arts. The 2026 theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” celebrates the contributions of women who are leading sustainability efforts across environmental, economic, educational, and social justice movements.
RISE UP, LEVEL UP, SHOW UP
Attendance Matters
Every day of school counts. When students attend school regularly, they build strong routines, stay connected to learning, and make steady academic progress. Our goal is to reach a 95% weekly attendance rate in every grade level, K–5, and we can only do this with strong family partnerships.
By ensuring students arrive at school on time and every day, families play a key role in reducing chronic absenteeism and supporting student success. Let’s work together to help every student be present, engaged, and ready to learn—because every minute counts at Boulevard.

Parent Tip:
Encourage a consistent morning routine and bedtime to help your child arrive at school ready to learn. Even a few extra minutes of sleep and a calm start can make a big difference in attendance and learning.

🙌 Boulevard fourth graders ask: What is it like to be Mayor?
Mayor Petras had a chance to visit with Boulevard Elementary School's two fourth grade classes on Wednesday this week. To enrich their unit on Civics, fourth-grade teacher Julie Walker invited the Mayor to speak about local government with the students and engage in Q&A. The students asked astute, thoughtful questions about elections, taxes, and the day-to-day responsibilities of being a mayor.
COMMUNITY EVENT
Dear CHUH parents and caregivers,
PUPS (Parents United for Public Schools) would like to invite you to a Listening Session about your child’s school experience priorities.
The Federal and State governments have both chosen to make significant cuts in public school funding (ignoring what families and communities want). While PUPS and other organizations continue to fight for our schools to be fully funded, districts across the state are being forced to do more with less.
We are hosting a series of Listening Sessions at schools across the CHUH district in order to identify areas that are MOST important to parents and caregivers regarding our schools.
This Listening Campaign is important because it will not only ensure that parent voices inform the cuts and reductions the district is being forced to make in the budget this spring, but it will also allow us to reach so many more CHUH parents and invite them into the conversation about what’s happening with our schools.
Our goal is to collect and organize the information from the listening sessions and present it to the School Board at their meeting on May 6. The school board is eager to hear from our school communities so that they can factor family priorities into where and how budget cuts are made in the coming several years.
Please RSVP for the Tues, March 17, 4:45-6:15 - Lee Road Library - Boulevard, Fairfax listening session at the Lee Road Library, for Fairfax and Boulevard schools. If you can’t make the time for that session, please feel free to attend a session at another school. Dates, times, and locations are listed below.
Parents and supporters from around the district will be helping facilitate the sessions. This is organized by parents and caretakers, for our school community. We would love to hear what you have to say.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Emily Lampe emily.e.lampe@gmail.com (540)272-6626, one of the facilitators at this session, or Joanna Cregan joannamcregan@gmail.com (216) 315-3147 (text preferred)
Best,
