IMPORTANT KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION
Dear Sand Creek Kindergarten Families,
On behalf of the staff at Sand Creek, welcome to the 2026–27 school year! As you may know, the first week of school looks a bit different for kindergarten students than it does for students in grades 1–5 across our district.
This message is intended to guide you through what the first week of school will look like for your child and family.
Kindergarten Start Schedule
Your child will attend school on either Tuesday, September 8 or Wednesday, September 9. During these days, students will be dispersed into two separate classrooms. While students are on-site, staff will complete assessments and observe students to help determine final class placements. You will find your child's assigned day below.
DCD Kindergarten Families
Kindergarten students in our DCD center-based program will not participate in Kindergarten Welcome Week. Instead, students will begin school on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 8, and will attend school each day beginning that date.
DCD Families can meet their child's teacher at Open House and are encouraged to bring their child's school supplies at that time. We look forward to welcoming your family to Sand Creek!
Your Child’s Assigned Day
Your child is scheduled to attend Sand Creek on the following day based on the first letter of their last name:
GROUP A (Last names beginning with A–J):
Tuesday, September 8, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
First bell rings at 8:45 a.m.GROUP B (Last names beginning with K–Z):
Wednesday, September 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
First bell rings at 8:45 a.m.
Please have your child bring a backpack, a water bottle, and a snack on their assigned day.
Do not bring school supplies on this day. Supplies should be brought to school during your scheduled Meet & Greet time—not on the first day or at Open House.
Teacher Assignments
On Thursday, September 10 after 3:00 p.m., families will receive an email from their child’s assigned teacher. If you are attending a Meet & Greet, you will also receive this information at that time.
Kindergarten Meet & Greet Conferences
Families are invited to attend a Kindergarten Meet & Greet small group conference on Thursday, September 10 or Friday, September 11. These 30-minute sessions will be led by your child’s assigned kindergarten teacher and provide your family with the opportunity to:
Meet the teacher
Explore the classroom and learning environment
Learn what a typical day in kindergarten looks like
Drop off school supplies and find your child’s locker and table spot
Please complete the Google Form that will be sent with your child’s official class placement on Thursday, September 10 at 3:00 p.m. to let us know which Meet & Greet time works best for your family.
Available time slots:
Thursday, September 10: 4:00 p.m. or 4:45 p.m.
Friday, September 11: 9:30 a.m.
Meet & Greet Information
When arriving for the Meet & Greet, please enter through Door #1. A staff member will greet you, provide directions, and guide you to the kindergarten classrooms.
If you are attending on Friday at 9:30 a.m., please note that school will be in session for grades 1–5. As such, we ask that families remain in the kindergarten classrooms and refrain from visiting other parts of the building or using the playground.
Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies and materials to their Meet & Greet time.
Please do NOT bring supplies to the Open House event on Wednesday, September 2.
First Full Day for All Kindergarten Students
All kindergarten students will begin attending school full-time starting Monday, September 14, 2025.
Schoolwide Open House
Our kindergarten teachers will be available at the school-wide Open House on Wednesday, September 2, from 4:00–5:30 p.m.
During this event, families will have the opportunity to tour the school, visit stations set up in each kindergarten classroom, and learn about important topics such as dismissal procedures and our Schoolwide Title I services. You'll also receive an overview of what to expect on your child’s first day of school and have time to ask any questions you may have.
Important Information
Meals: All students will receive free breakfast and lunch this school year. If your child would like a megabyte (extra portion) or extra milk, they will need money in their lunch account to cover those items.
While meals are free, we encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. Approved applications not only support your family financially but also help our school receive additional funding.
We are excited to welcome your child and family to Sand Creek at the Open House on Wednesday, September 2 and again at the Meet & Greet on Thursday, September 10 or Friday, September 11.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to call the school office at 763-506-4300.
Sincerely,
Melanie Wohlers, Principal
Bethany Rice, Assistant Principal
