I was so excited to kick off Principal Read-Alouds this week! There’s something special about sharing a great story with students, seeing their excitement, hearing their thoughts, and watching their imaginations come to life.

Reading is about so much more than the words on a page. It sparks curiosity, encourages creativity, builds vocabulary, and opens the door to new ideas and possibilities. Most importantly, sharing stories creates opportunities for meaningful conversations, laughter, and connections that help make our school community special.

Through Principal Read-Alouds, I look forward to visiting more classrooms, discovering new stories with our students, and creating memorable moments together. My hope is to nurture a love of reading, encourage students to explore the world through books, and remind them that there is always something new to learn, imagine, and discover within the pages of a great story.

I can’t wait to continue this adventure with our students, one book at a time!

With Jag Pride,

Donida Garcia

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

October is Attendance Matters Month at NYOS! From October 6–30, we're challenging every Jaguar, PK–12, to miss no more than one day of school. It's an exciting month to be a Jaguar, with Red Ribbon Week celebrating healthy choices at our elementary campus and Homecoming Week bringing the spirit to our secondary campus. Strong attendance builds both academic success and school spirit, and we want every student here for all of it.

Students who stay on track will earn recognition along the way, including a Free Perk Friday on October 23 and Blueprint Builder wristbands and certificates on October 30. Every grade level that reaches its attendance goal will celebrate together in November. Families, thank you for being our partners! We want our Jaguars here every day, learning, growing, and celebrating with their friends and teachers. Your encouragement at home makes all the difference, and we're cheering on every student to show up, finish strong, and earn every reward. Every day counts!

Counselors’ Corner: Thinking Ahead Counselors’ Corner: Thinking Ahead

This week, our students have been practicing Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind by thinking about what they want to accomplish and creating a plan to get there. We have been learning that our goals begin with a picture in our minds and become reality through the actions we take. At home, ask your child, “What is something you want to accomplish, and what is one step you can take to get there?” Helping children think ahead and make a plan builds confidence, independence, and goal setting skills.
