Honoring Our Veterans
On November 11th, our Roughriders honored and celebrated our Veterans for their courage, service, and sacrifice. Our Roughriders wrote heartfelt letters to thank the Veterans and learned about the importance and meaning of Veterans Day.
Fourth and fifth grade students also took part in a special writing contest focused on Veterans Day and its impact. Their thoughtful words were compiled into an “Infoshot” that deeply impressed Miss Temprano and Mr. Pisacane. Contest winners were invited to attend the annual Veterans Day ceremony, where they met incredible individuals, expressed their gratitude in person, and proudly waved flags presented to them by the Veterans, Mayor Lane and Council.
Thank you, Veterans — today, and every day.
Governor's Educator of the Year
The Governor's Educator of the Year program was developed to acknowledge Teachers and Educational Services Professionals who exhibit outstanding performance both in and out of the classroom. The rationale for this program is based on the premise that teaching excellence is one of the most significant factors impacting student achievement and the quality of public schools. It also acknowledges the important support Educational Services Professionals provide outside of the classroom environment that improves students' academic opportunities, workforce preparedness, and overall quality of life.
At this time, we are asking parents, community members, and fellow teachers to nominate a teacher and/or educational services professional for this recognition using the nomination form. To ensure the use of common criteria for selecting teachers and educational support professionals, we ask that each nomination adheres to the eligibility criteria included below.

Happy Birthday, Teddy Roosevelt!
The Roosevelt Roughriders had a fun time celebrating our favorite Roughrider, President Theodore Roosevelt! Thanks to our amazing PTO, everyone enjoyed a special birthday treat to make the day extra sweet. What a great way to celebrate our school spirit and honor the man behind the Roughrider name.
Roughrider Crew Sets Sail for Treasure!
The crew at Roughrider Cove set sail on a grand adventure in search of hidden treasure! Our Captains skillfully led their classes through each port of call, where exciting challenges awaited. At every station, the crew tackled fun activities—standing tall in Stand Guard, testing their aim in Ring Toss, digging into the Sensory Pot, following commands in Pirate Says, and spotting clues in Find the Differences with Pirate Pisacane.
Even when the seas were stormy, our Captains navigated with courage and teamwork, guiding their crew to uncover the ultimate prize—the treasure!
A heartfelt thank you to Captain Pisacane, Captain Hascup and Captain Verrone for preparing this unforgettable adventure for our young pirates, and to our PTO for providing some amazing treasures for our Captains!

HHS Senior Workshops: Preparing Students for Life Beyond Graduation
The Hawthorne High School English Department proudly hosted a series of Senior Workshops designed to help students navigate their next steps for post-graduation plans. These interactive sessions covered essential pre-professional topics such as:
- Building a Stand-Out Resume
- Understanding Contracts, Offers, and Fine Print
- Interviewing for Positions
- Digital Literacy in the World of AI-Generated Content
- Writing a Compelling Cover Letter
- What to Expect in Your First Year of College
- Developing Time Management Skills
- Constructing Responses to College Supplement Questions.
Developed by our Supervisor of Humanities in response to seniors’ interests and feedback, these workshops gave seniors the tools, confidence, and practical knowledge needed to transition successfully into college, careers, and adulthood. Each session incorporated hands-on learning and real-world application through engaging activities: scenario analysis, visual depictions, charting, and, of course, engagement in thoughtful discussions. All workshops encouraged students to think critically about their goals and decision-making moving into the next phase of their lives. Students left with valuable resources, including templates, time management tools, and college readiness tips that will continue to serve them long after graduation.
Thank you to the English Department for providing this invaluable opportunity for seniors!
