Message from Principal Wadkins
Dear Cleveland Families,
We are excited for homecoming this week with events that celebrate community and school spirit. Thank you to our amazing leadership classes who have been planning for spirit week, the community Tailgater and the dance on Friday. I have been very impressed with how our students have been showing up to cheer their peers at our athletic events. I am sure the Thursday game will be high energy and fun, and we look forward to seeing everyone there. The dance on Friday will be hosted in our courtyard with tickets on sale this week. I am sure the leadership students will transform the space into something magical.
I also want to take this opportunity to talk about safety as our students are driving to Marshall campus for school and events. I have received more than one email about the unsafe driving habits of some of our students as well as witnessing this behavior myself. Especially in the parking lots which wrap around the school, we have pedestrians coming onto campus from bus stops, cyclists, and cars all having to navigate the space safely. If you have a student driver, please emphasize safe speeds in parking lots and awareness of cyclists and pedestrians. We have developed a form for students who want to park on campus to register their cars. They will then be issued a parking pass. Having a pass does not guarantee a parking space. It does allow us to address safety concerns and support students if they have any issues while driving and parking on campus. The form is linked below.

Attendance at Cleveland
We are approaching the end of our first month of school. Our school's attendance goal is for students to be present 90% or higher; our current attendance rate is at 92.93%, with 81.27% of students attending at an acceptable rate. (FYI: Excused absences from families still affect their students' attendance rate.)
If you would like to address any concerns regarding your students' attendance, please let us know. The staff is working on taking accurate attendance, and if you see a SKP or LAT in your students' attendance, they have missed important instructional time.
Connect with:
Amanda Knutson, attendance secretary (clevelandattend@pps.net)
Isaac Camacho, attendance coach (icamacho@pps.net)
Keyla Santiago Rodriguez, attendance admin (ksantiagorodriguez@pps.net)

Soccer Postseason Changes & Upcoming Endowment Match
Important Playoff Format Update:
Beginning this fall, the OSAA reduced the total number of playoff spots for soccer and volleyball from 32 down to 24. To ensure our student-athletes still have maximum opportunity to compete, the 6A classification collaborated to establish a Qualification Round before the official OSAA cutoff date.
Here is how postseason selection will work moving forward:
Automatic Qualifiers: The 7 league champions plus the next 9 highest-ranked teams automatically advance to the OSAA playoffs.
Qualification Round: The remaining 16 highest-ranked non-qualifying teams will compete in a single Qualification Round, with the 8 winners advancing to complete the 32-team postseason field.
Upcoming Endowment Match vs. McDaniel High School
Mark your calendars! Our soccer teams face McDaniel High School on October 15th.
Ticket Notice: Because this is an official OSAA Endowment Game, standard OSAA ticket prices apply for all spectators ($8 for adults, $5 for students). Standard school or league passes are not valid for endowment games. Thank you for your support as we gear up for game day!
