Good morning CDA Family,

It was a wet weekend! I hope you stayed dry and had an opportunity to enjoy the week-long MOJA Festival activities, celebrating the culture, music, and spirit of our community. Thank you for the energy and commitment you bring to our scholars every day.

Let’s carry that joy and inspiration into our classrooms and remind our scholars that learning includes academics, culture, creativity, and unity.

A few reminders for this week:

  • Friday, October 9, is an early-release day. Scholars will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. We will meet at the middle school for a brief i-Ready training and housekeeping updates. Afterward, please use your work time to update your gradebook, refresh your classroom, and display scholar work.

  • Continue focusing on the Foundation Prong and creating a positive learning environment. Your daily interactions, routines, and expectations help ensure every scholar feels welcomed, supported, and ready to learn.

Wishing you a productive and positive week ahead!

Yours in education,
Dr. Johnson

Thank you for your preparation and continued support of our scholars and families.

CDA’s Anti-Bullying Campaign will take place on Wednesday, October 14. Please complete one Stop the Bullying activity with your class by that date and display your scholars’ work in your classroom or the hallway outside your room. Special recognition is planned for the class that completes its activity on time and demonstrates creativity.

Elementary School Activities

  1. Kindness Chain: Each scholar writes a kind act they can do on a strip of paper. Link the strips together to create a classroom Kindness Chain.

  2. Pledge Wall: Create a large poster titled “We Pledge to Stand Against Bullying.” Have scholars sign it and decorate it with orange handprints using paint or markers.

Middle School Activities

  1. Social Media Awareness: Discuss cyberbullying and positive ways to use social media. Have scholars create posters or digital slides that promote kindness and standing against bullying.

  2. Orange Day Reflection: After wearing orange on October 14, scholars write a paragraph explaining why standing against bullying matters to them and how they can make a difference. Display their reflections that day.

Thank you for helping our scholars practice kindness, show respect, and build a school community where everyone feels safe and valued.

As we move further into the school year, it’s important that we maintain strong communication with our families regarding student progress. Please take time this week to reach out to the parents of any students who may be at risk of failing your class or a specific subject.

Opening this line of communication gives parents the opportunity to partner with us, provide additional support at home, and work together to help their child succeed. This contact will also serve as documentation for your records that you have informed parents of their child’s progress.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our students’ success and for making sure every family feels connected and informed.
