Happy Holidays from MS 50!

The holiday spirit is bright at MS 50 as we close out 2022 and prepare for the new year! Competition is heating up for our annual Ugly Sweater contest this Friday. After last week's "Anything but a Book Bag" day saw students bringing their assignments to school in everything from a Target shopping baskets to an air fryer, we know our MS 50 students will bring their "A" game. Our boys' basketball team is preparing for their first game of the season this week at MS 582, the first official game against another school since 2020! We look forward to home games for both the girls' and boys' basketball teams in January.


Check out more important information and learn about upcoming events below! There will be no newsletter next week for Winter Recess and we can't wait to see you in 2023!

NYC Schools Accounts: Important! NYC Schools Accounts: Important!

Please make sure you have signed up for a NYC Schools Account. This account gives you access to your student's report card, attendance, and much more. The DOE also requires that you keep your student's childhood immunizations using that portal.

6th Grade - Early Civilizations

In 6th Grade Social Studies, students are analyzing the earliest human civilizations from the first hominids through the Neolithic Revolution. Students will explore the way various human groups have survived and thrived in community from the hunter gatherer groups to the development of agricultural societies. The unit will culminate in a virtual cave tour where students will explore the connections between issues from the origins of humanity to today.

7th Grade - America's Founding

In 7th Grade Social Studies, students are exploring the founding of the United States by utilizing a variety of both original and modern source material. Students will incorporate multiple pieces of evidence into a single argument. Our 7th Graders are putting together a case study on Pocahontas and how both the realities of her life and her modern portrayals shape our understanding of the earliest parts of our nation's history.

8th Grade - The Gilded Age

In 8th Grade Social Studies, students are exploring the United States in the Gilded Age (1870s-1910s). Focusing on increased urbanization, industrialization, and immigration, our 8th graders are examining how all of these developments brought both expanded opportunity and increased inequality and discrimination. Using a combination of graphs, primary, and secondary sources, students will develop a report on the benefits and harms of the Gilded Age.

Honor Roll Ceremonies Honor Roll Ceremonies

Our young people worked so hard in our first marking period and we are excited to celebrate all their accomplishments with Honor Roll ceremonies. The 6th Grade ceremony was last week and can be rewatched any time. This Tuesday, 12/20, the 7th and 8th Graders' ceremony will be held.


Students will receive their Honor Roll certificates and families are invited to watch at ms50.org/honorroll. Tune in at 3:00PM for the ceremony!
