Youth Truth Survey- Input needed from families!
Woodburn School District partners with the nonprofit organization YouthTruth to help us hear feedback from you about what we are doing well, and how we can improve. The Youth Truth Survey is an important way for stakeholders- Families, Students and Staff to provide feedback about how we are doing at WHS and Success, and what our future direction should be.
The survey asks questions about engagement, relationships, communication, safety and expectations, as well as other related topics. You will also have an opportunity to share written feedback.
The family survey can be accessed here or by using the QR code. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and is available in English, Spanish and Russian. When taking the survey, please note that it must be completed all at once- there is not a way to save your progress for later. We also ask that you please fill out the survey for each of your students' schools- if you have a student at elementary, middle school and the high school, please fill out the survey for each!
Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other families at WHS and Success. Thank you for your feedback!

School Board Policy: Student Dress and Grooming**
All students, with the cooperation of their parents, have freedom of choice in clothing and personal appearance except when it:
1. Disrupts the classroom by distracting students and teachers from the educational process.
Unacceptable clothing includes, but is not limited to any clothing that promotes products or activities that are considered inappropriate in the school setting;
2. Becomes a safety hazard;
3. Is unsanitary or conflicts with health considerations.
- Students may not wear clothing that promotes alcohol, drug use, or weapons, and will be asked to change clothing.
- Students may wear hoodies/hooded sweatshirts, but the hood may not cover the head or face.
- Students may wear hats, but may not wear hats that cover the face.
Success High School: Building Castles, Building Community
This month, Success staff and students have been participating in a schoolwide project called βDefending Your Castle.β Students:
Learned how societies and cultures around the world used fortifications for safety and protection
Experimented with the physics of castle wall design to withstand attack
Built castles using elements of design
Explored societal values that define us as people and communities and are worth defending
Created detailed histories for their fictional kingdoms
Researched imagery in historical societies and how images reflected values
Learned about the importance of genetic diversity in communities and families
Considered our values as a school community and proposed mottos for Success High School
Monday, November 3, students will put their castle designs and structures to the test in a competition to see whose castle will be the last to remain standing.
Grading Day β Friday, October 31
This Friday, October 31, is Grading Day. Please take a moment to check in with your student to ensure that any pending assignments have been submitted.
This is a great opportunity to review progress together and encourage strong study habits as we move into the next part of the term. Progress reports will be mailed home on Monday, November 3.
9th Grade On Track- The Importance of Quarter 1 Grades
Quarter 1 grades are an important data point for how our 9th grade students are doing. While Q1 grades aren't added to the transcript, it allows our high school teams to see which students are in need of support. Students who end ninth grade on track are almost four times more likely to graduate from high school than their peers who are off track.
A student is considered on track if they earn at least 1/4 of the credits needed for high school by the end of their 9th grade year. In Oregon, this means they need to earn at least 6 for the school year, with a target of at least 3 credits for semester 1. When you look at your students Q1 grades, are they passing their classes, especially core subjects (ELA, math, science and social studies)? If your student isn't passing, are they making use of Saturday School, teachers' Office Hours, structured study hall opportunities in Advisory, and if applicable Freshmen Victory class?
If you have concerns about your student's grades, please feel welcome to connect with your student's counselor. Your student's teachers may also be reaching out to you to be partners in supporting your student. We are here as a support!
Ensuring Student Safety and Support
At Woodburn High School, the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. Our staff follows clear protocols for a variety of emergency situations, including how to respond if there were to be any activity from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in or around the school area.
These procedures were developed in coordination with district leadership and focus on ensuring that all students remain safe, supervised, and supported at all times. Our plan includes:
-
Keeping the school building secure and limiting access during any potential activity in the area.
-
Ensuring students remain in classrooms and continue learning in a calm environment.
-
Communicating promptly with district officials to coordinate accurate information and next steps.
-
Providing emotional and social support to students who may feel concerned or affected.
We want our families to know that these protocols are already in place as a preventive measure, not in response to any current situation. Our goal is simply to make sure our school community is prepared, informed, and cared for in every circumstance.
If you have any questions or would like more information about our general safety procedures, please contact the main office.
