Reporting Student Absences
Ensuring your child’s attendance is up-to-date is crucial for their academic success. If your child attends the Broadway K-8 campus and will be absent from school, please follow these simple steps to notify us:
Contact the Front Desk: Call the front desk at 816-499-8000 or email us at elementary.attendance@cwckansascity.org (for K-4th grade students) or middle.attendance@cwckansascity.org (for 5th-8th grade students). Be sure to provide your child's full name, grade, and the reason for their absence. When possible, please include your child's classroom teacher in this communication so that they are also aware.
Report Absences by 9:00 am. To help us maintain accurate attendance records, please report absences by 9:00 am on the day of the absence.
Reporting absences directly to the front office (not just to the teacher) is important so that our nurse can track trends in sicknesses and ensure the health and safety of all students. It also ensures that Ms. Jamesetta has information as quickly as possible to avoid causing confusion for families who receive unnecessary calls regarding absences. Your prompt communication helps us support your child's learning journey and maintain a safe and organized school environment. Thank you for your cooperation!
Clubs Start This Week
Clubs begin this week and meet once a week until 5 pm. Reach out to carl.stafford@cwckansascity.org with any questions about clubs.
DashPass App Start Today!
Today we will begin exclusively using the DashPass system at dismissal! Simply open the app as you approach the school, and it will automatically queue your child as you enter the school boundaries. Make sure you've correctly chosen car rider or walker on the home screen and that the correct students have been queued up!
Although CampFire and Operation Breakthrough families will not be using DashPass for daily dismissal, all adults must have the app downloaded and set up to pick up their student(s) so that we are prepared for a quick and efficient pickup in case of emergency.
You can find more info and links to DashPass videos at the Drop Off & Pick Up page of the website.
Thank you again for your patience as we've prepared for this roll-out. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the front desk at 816-499-8000 or email info@cwckansascity.org.
Breakfast Ends at 8 am
As a reminder, school-provided breakfast ends at 8 am every morning. If you would like for your child to get a school breakfast, please be sure to bring them to school between 7-7:50 am so that they have time to get breakfast and arrive in their classroom by 8 am.
Ice Cream Social - Thursday, September 25th
We’re excited to invite all PreK–8th grade families to our annual Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 25th from 6 - 7:30 pm on the Broadway school playground. The evening will begin with a short caregiver meeting to share important updates and highlight upcoming events. Afterwards, kids can enjoy the playground while families cool off with a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings. It’s the perfect chance to connect with fellow families and celebrate the start of the year together.
To help make the night a success, we’re asking for item donations. Please check out our sign-up sheet to see how you can contribute. Donations may be dropped off at school the week of September 22nd, or brought directly to the playground if you arrive by 6 pm.
Mark your calendars—we can’t wait to see you for this sweet community tradition!
SOS Program (Grades 5-8)
Every year at CWCKC, our counselors use the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program with grades 5-8 to help students learn about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. SOS has been used in schools nationwide for over 20 years and has been proven to reduce self-reported suicide attempts while teaching students that depression is treatable, how to recognize warning signs, and how to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell a trusted adult). Students will watch age-appropriate videos, take part in guided discussions, and complete short screenings and exit slips that allow them to request follow-up support from school staff if needed.
SOS will be presented in 7th grade on September 22nd and 6th and 8th grades on September 29th. 5th grade presentations will be in the spring.
For more information, including resources for parents and warning signs to look for, please visit www.mindwise.org/parents.
If you have questions or concerns about SOS, please contact Johanna Chambers, Director of Student Support, at johanna.chambers@cwckansascity.org, or 816-979-3591.
