💜 Purple Up! For Military Kids: 2026 Announcement
Thank you to Heartland's Family Resource Center Coordinator for sharing this information.
Date: April 15, 2026 (WEDNESDAY)
Subject: Join Us in Honoring Our Military-Connected Youth
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of the over 1.6 million children who have a parent serving in our Armed Forces.
On Wednesday, April 15, we invite everyone to "Purple Up!" and wear purple to show our visible support for these incredible young people.
Military children face unique challenges, including frequent moves, changing schools, and long separations from loved ones. Despite these obstacles, they continue to "bloom where they are planted"—much like the dandelion, the official flower of the military child.
How to Participate:
Wear Purple: Grab your favorite purple shirt, tie, or accessory on April 15th.
Write a Note: If you know a military-connected student or coworker, take a moment to thank them for their resilience.
Let’s turn our school purple to let our military kids know they are seen, appreciated, and supported!
Why "Purple"?
The color purple was chosen because it represents the combination of all military branch colors (Army green, Navy blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard blue). It signifies that the school supports all children, regardless of their parent's branch of service.
🎨 Why Do We Wear Purple? Here are some fun facts:
1. Unity Across Branches: Purple is the color used in the military to represent "Joint" operations. It is a blend of the colors of all service branches:
Army: Green
Marine Corps: Red
Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, & Space Force: Blue
Visible Support: Wearing purple allows military children to actually see the support of their schools and communities in a way that words alone cannot express.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PTO
We can't wait to see everyone at the carnival this Friday, 4/17. We will have games, prizes, snacks and tons of fun! Please watch for all of the great silent auction items that will be announced this week. This is a free admission event. The only costs would be for auction items and our "Tattoo A Teacher" booth. We will be accepting cash, check and Zeffy payments for our auction items. Cash will be needed for our tattoo booth and prices will range from $1-$3 depending on the size of the tattoo. Stay tuned to find out the schedule of teachers!
We're looking for parents who want to make a difference in our school community! Our PTO and Site-Based Decision Making Council are seeking nominations for the upcoming year. It's just one meeting a month, and you'll help support fun family events, school activities, and important decisions that impact our students. Whether you have lots of time or just a little, your voice and ideas matter! Join us in making our school an even better place for our kids! Please send the position you would like to run for, and a small information piece about yourself so that you can be added to the ballot, to HeartlandPTO.board@gmail.com. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email or phone 270-268-2443.
THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 17- Spring Carnival-We can't wait to see you and your family!
NEXT FRIDAY, April 24 - Bulldog Boogie
Greetings from the Principal
HELLO Bulldog families!
I hope you and your family had a nice Spring break. The weather here in E-town was not too bad. Plenty of sunshine!
It is hard to believe we are in the final stretch of the school year. 27 SCHOOL DAYS is all we have left!
iReady testing for 5th grade starts this week and then starting next week the rest of the school will start testing. For 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, we are needing to get iReady tested complete by April 27th because they will start their KSA testing April 30th. It is earlier this year since we are getting out for summer on May 21st.
With all that is going on these last few days/weeks, it is very important that students be at school. Of course we will be testing, but we will continue to teach students concepts and skills they need for their next grade level. In addition, we have some fun end of the year events planned that we want all students to be able to participate in.
Make sure you check out the dates below regarding end of the year information. Some of the dates are subject to revision. We will update you through this newsletter as well as the APP as the school year winds down.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Emily Campbell
Principal
