From the Desk ofthe SuperintendentJanuary 24, 2025

Dear MPS Staff and Families,

We want to assure all staff, students, and families that we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for everyone. Every student who lives in Milton has access to the quality public education they are entitled to, regardless of immigration status, race, ethnicity, or the language they speak.

There have been a number of questions and concerns around potential changes in federal immigration policy and we have just received guidance from the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which will guide our response. That guidance is attached below for your review. We will continue to stay in contact with DESE, the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS), and the Massachusetts Legislative Delegation and as we receive further guidance, we will share relevant updates with the MPS community.

If you have questions or need additional support, please reach out to your child’s principal. I am grateful for the support of the Milton community as we work together to foster a safe and inclusive school climate where all students feel valued and respected and where every child can succeed.

Best,

Peter Burrows, Ed.D
