Superintendent's Update - 5.29.2026
Dear CPS Community,
As we wind down this academic year, and start preparing for the next, school bus registration for 2026-27 is getting underway. We need to begin collecting data on riders for the fall so efficient routes may be developed for the start of the school year. Please note that all students who desire to ride the school bus to or from school must register every year, even if they are not required to pay a fee. Also, we have an “early bird” payment discount available for registrations received by June 30, 2026. Information pertaining to school bus transportation may be found on the Chelmsford Public Schools Transportation web page.
I’m pleased to share that our CHS Theatre Guild has been nominated for seven TAMY Awards for their production of “Oklahoma!” including Best Student Orchestra, Visual Excellence, Technical Excellence and Best House Experience. A huge congratulations goes out to all the students who were members of the cast and crew, as well as to Erica Lundin and Craig Robertson for all their hard work making the musical a huge success. This year’s TAMY Awards will be held on Sunday, May 31, at 6:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed by Mount Wachusett Community College for all to watch.
The past week has been incredibly busy at Chelmsford High School as our seniors begin the countdown to graduation. Last Friday, we celebrated the third annual Future Teachers Signing Day; we are thrilled that 18 students from Chelmsford are planning to go on to study education in college. Yesterday morning was the Innovation Pathway (IP) Graduation Ceremony, recognizing the 24 students who successfully completed the IP Program, which was developed to help expand career field exploration through technical education. That was followed by the Senior Internship Exhibition, which saw the seniors visually display their recent workplace experiences for the junior class and interested faculty. The day wrapped up with Senior Awards Night in the Performing Arts Center, during which the valedictorian, salutatorian and Students of the Year for the Class of 2026 were announced. Congratulations to all!
Next week marks Chelmsford High’s Senior Week, with many events for our soon-to-be graduates that lead up to the much-anticipated commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 6. The seniors’ schedules will be packed with activities that are sure to create wonderful memories. One event to take note of is the Senior Prom on Wednesday, June 3. This event begins with a tradition of students and families gathering at the Chelmsford Town Common to take photos before they depart for the prom at the Atkinson Country Club. Beginning around 4:00 p.m., the area surrounding the common becomes very congested as folks gather to see all the students dressed in their finest attire before they leave for the evening. Be sure to plan accordingly if your daily travels typically bring you near the town common area on Wednesday afternoon.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

In The News
Chelmsford High School celebrates future teachers
Chelmsford High School seniors who are planning to go into the field of teaching were recognized during the third annual Future Teachers Signing Day ceremony on Friday, May 22.
In total, 18 members of the Class of 2026 plan to make the foray into education; 17 of them were present for the ceremony.
“In many ways, today mirrors the signing ceremonies we often see for student athletes, but this celebration honors something equally impactful: a commitment to shaping lives, building communities and inspiring future generations through education,” said Katie Simes, the Health, Physical Education & Family and Consumer Sciences department coordinator for Chelmsford Public Schools. “Teaching is far more than a profession. It is a calling rooted in patience, compassion, leadership and service.”
