Help Keep Our School Communities Safe with Daily Home Screening Process
Safe Travel to and from School
With school now fully in swing, it is a good time to remember some important safety reminders about safe travel to and from school. We live in a great community, yet staying safe takes all of us. Be ready to step up and support younger students or others who may need reminders on safety when getting to school. Being aware of one's surroundings is always important, whether it is about crossing streets or knowing who is around you.
Safe Travel to School
Many of our students walk, ride their bikes, or skateboard to school. Please make sure to talk with your student about important road safety, including proper use of sidewalks. Remember, students should only cross busy streets at designated crosswalks or intersections and should always remember to stop, look, and listen before crossing the street. Students should also wear the appropriate safety equipment, including helmets and reflective clothing if riding a bike or skateboard.
Bus Safety
We encourage families of students who ride the bus to talk about proper safety as well. Students waiting at the bus stop should make sure they’re away from the street and out of harm’s way. Students should wait until the red flashing light turns on before crossing the street to board the bus. Students should also wait until the bus has come to a full stop before getting on, should board one at a time, and abide by bus expectations while on the bus. Students should sit in their assigned seat and wear a face covering at all times.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
We also ask that families, students, and the general community be aware of their surroundings, especially in the mornings and afternoons when students are coming to and from school. If your student walks, bikes, or rides their skateboard to school, please talk with them about the importance of safety. This includes being on the lookout for strangers or any suspicious behavior in the neighborhood. We recommend that families practice and review safety strategies with their students, including reminders to avoid adults who they do not know. We also ask the entire community to remain vigilant. Please report any suspicious behavior to the school office or the police department.
Thank you for your attention to these important safety measures. It takes our whole West Linn-Wilsonville community to keep our students safe.
