JTSD Students Take Math Lessons Into the Real World at 14 Mill Market
Fifth graders at JTSD recently took their math lessons outside the classroom with a field trip to 14 Mill Market. Students kicked off the trip with a walk to the market, where they got to put their classroom learning into practice. Students have been working through a unit on decimals, including addition, subtraction, and solving real-world problems. The owners of Uptown Hog helped bring those lessons to life by sharing examples of the everyday math problems they face while running their business.
No school Tuesday, November 3, for Election Day & Staff Work Day. Classes resume on Wednesday.
As a reminder, the election is on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and some of our schools are polling locations. Please use caution around our buildings and plan accordingly for additional traffic.
Voters will be voting for the midterm, which encompasses a larger area than the city limits of Nixa. Since this election involves people living outside Nixa's city limits, we will have more traffic.
If you are unsure of your voting locations or have voting questions please visit www.SOS.Mo.Gov/Elections/GoVoteMissouri
Public FEMA Safe Room Locations
Nixaโs safe rooms open when a tornado watch is issued, so you have lots of time to get there before the weather comes. If a tornado warning is issued without a tornado watch, the safe rooms will be opened as soon as possible.
Nixa Public FEMA Safe Room Locations:
Mathews Elementary
- Address: 605 S. Gregg Road, Nixa, MO 65714

๐ญ Nixa High School Theatre Presents: Shrek ๐
๐ญ Showings: November 12 & 14 at 7 p.m., 15 at 2 p.m.
๐ Location: Aetos Center for the Performing Arts in the Meridian Title Performance Hall
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

High Pointe
๐ก After a month of studying Jamestown history, Jennifer Downs and Anna Jones' High Pointe fourth-grade students presented a Jamestown Artifact Museum. โต
First, students read Elisa Carbone's true story of the Jamestown colony, "Blood on the River." Then, in small groups, they chose an artifact to feature and designed it. They then listed the materials they would need and planned how to implement their design. They wrote summaries explaining how each item would benefit the Jamestown colonists or the Powhatan tribe in the area. Their final museum highlighted what they learned about Jamestown and the artifacts they chose to feature.
