📢 New Digital Hall Pass System at SHS

This year, Shorewood High School is introducing a Digital Hall Pass System to support student accountability, safety, and efficiency.

What is it?
Instead of a paper hall pass, students will now use a classroom Chromebook kiosk to check in and out when leaving the room. Any staff member can see in real time which students have permission to be out of class and where they are going.

Why this change?

  • Staff can easily see where students are during the day.

  • Reduces interruptions and encourages responsible use of passes.

  • Provides accurate data to support safety and learning.

  • Parents/guardians can monitor how many passes their child uses and how long they are out of class.

What families should know:

  • Students must still ask their teacher before leaving class.

  • Passes should be used only when necessary.

  • Students with IEPs, health plans, or other documented needs will continue to be supported.

NEW This Year: Free Periods on Student Schedules

Starting September 4th, families will notice a minor change in how student schedules are displayed in Infinite Campus.

  • In the past, a student’s free period appeared as “No Class Scheduled.”

  • Beginning this school year, it will now display as “FREE PERIOD.”

  • This update is simply a label change to make schedules clearer and more consistent.

  • Students may continue to use their free period as they always have. This means they may remain on campus (for study, clubs, or other activities) or leave campus if they choose.

  • Reminder: Students are responsible for managing their time appropriately and must return on time for their next scheduled class.

Be SMART Gun Safety Event to Be Held at Shorewood School District

As part of Campus Safety Week (September 22-26), the Shorewood School District will host a community presentation on gun safety, open to parents, caregivers, and residents.

Volunteers from Be SMART will share practical information on how everyone can help secure firearms, prevent children from accessing the, and encourage others to do the same. The presentation will last about 30 minutes, followed by a Q&A session.

The event will be held Monday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Shorewood High School in the Library Media Center. For more information about Be SMART, visit besmartforkids.org

New District Volunteer Procedure

District schools will be using the Raptor system this year to screen and manage volunteers, in addition to screening building visitors. Raptor screening will eliminate the need for parents and others to submit a separate volunteer application to the District. If you are volunteering in your child's school, you will scan your license/state ID in the school office and receive a visitor badge, just as you did last year. If you are chaperoning an event outside of school hours (or offsite), the organizer of the event will ask you to contact the school's office in advance of the event to have your information checked through the Raptor system.
