The University of Minnesota Twin Cities is highly regarded for top-ranked engineering and science programs, offering rare, comprehensive academic paths that house medical, law, and agricultural schools on a single campus. the university is globally recognized as the birthplace of major innovations, including the retractable seat belt and the first cardiac pacemaker.

University of MN Rochester is known for its exclusive focus on health sciences education and its close collaboration with the nearby Mayo Clinic.with a Health Sciences Focus around health care, biomedical research, and health professions. St. Catherine University offers pre-professional programs, such as pre-law, pre-occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy and pre-medicine. Some of the more popular programs are nursing, public health, psychology, business and sonography.

The University of St Thomas is the largest private University in the state and offers a wide variety of majors that include the school of Law, engineering, education, entrepreneurship, business and the two-year Dougherty Family College.

Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College is the only institution in the United States that is jointly operated as both a tribal college and a state-funded public community college. Popular and recognized programs include Liberal Arts, Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice, Human Services/Addiction Counseling, Nursing, and Environmental Science
