KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We had a record-breaking turnout for the first All Pro Dad meeting of the school year. Thank you to Mr. Chaffer, Mr. Asher and the crew of Northwood staff that worked with PTA to put together the meeting. We love seeing our dads and father-figures start their Friday at the monthly APD events!
The big PTA fundraiser of the year, Piggy Palooza, starts next week (see the schedule of theme days and links to donate in the PTA section below). The students love dressing up and bringing in coins and cash. It is always an exciting week! Thank you in advance for your support of Northwood PTA. They give back to our students, families, and staff so thoughtfully!
Along the lines of supporting our Explorers, the clinic needs pants and shorts for boys and girls sized to fit our youngest Explorers. If you have items that you’d be willing to donate to the clinic, please send them in with your student or drop them off at the front desk. We are also in need for our outstanding cafeteria balance. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated. You can send a check or cash to school in an envelope to Ms. Bethany Lopez, Cafeteria Manager and notate that the funds go to the Principal Fund.
On a celebratory note, we just received our building inspection results from our district environmental tech team. Northwood received the highest score our campus has ever received, and it is one of the top in the district. The outstanding score is credited to our head custodian, Mr. Mack Ervin; our afternoon custodian, Mr. Michael Permar; and the AFS night crew. This is just another way Northwood SHINES – literally!
Enjoy the weekend!
With gratitude,
Heather Q. Rucker, principal

HERE TODAY, READY FOR TOMORROW: ATTENDANCE PRIORITIES AT NORTHWOOD ELEMENTARY
Our attendance focus this school year is “Strive for 95!” We want our Explorers to be present for 95% of our school days. Excellent attendance ensures the best delivery of excellent instruction.
We understand that some absences are unavoidable. If your Explorer is absent from school, please email northwoodattendance@fultonschools.org to notify the proper staff.
Did you know that students can request up to 5 Participate Remote Learning Days per semester and receive attendance credit by completing academic work remotely? Parents can submit this form to their child’s teacher prior to an expected absence.
Your involvement as parents and guardians is an essential factor in creating a positive and engaging school environment. Together, we can foster an atmosphere where students are excited to come to school, engage in learning, and build a foundation for a successful future.
Click here to learn more at Northwood’s Attendance Webpage. In addition, FCS attendance policy information can be found at FCS Attendance Matters Website or by contacting our school social worker, Patrick Hartigan, MSW at hartigan@fultonschools.org
OPTIONAL DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN - DEADLINE EXTENTION
The sign-up window for families to add the Optional Device Protection Plan has been extended through September 26, 2025. After the close of the extended sign-up window families can still contact the Technology Support Center at 470-254-HELP (4357) to sign up for the plan.
Please visit the FCS Strategy and Technology webpage for easy access and resources.
OUR CLINIC CLOSET NEEDS CLOTHES
Accidents happen - in the classroom, at recess, at lunch or the bathroom. When our Explorers get messy they often head to the Clinic to get cleaned up. We keep extra clothes on hand for those quick changes. Our clinic closet is in need of boys and girls bottoms, but we appreciate all donations. If you have any clothing items you'd like to contribute you can send them in with your student or drop them off at the front desk. Thanks!
AVID GOAL OF THE WEEK
Northwood is proud to be an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. AVID Elementary equips students with the foundational skills and mindset needed for future success. Our staff is focused on enhancing instructional consistency, fostering a college and career readiness mindset, increasing student engagement and building organizational and study skills.
As part of this, each week Northwood will be focused on one goal as a school. Be sure to ask your child about it!
Next week’s AVID goal is: My goal is to write my homework in my agenda and have a grown up check it each night.

CAFETERIA NEWS
ICE CREAM & BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Your child will be recognized at school on his/her birthday, with an announcement on Explorervision and a special birthday pencil. Please do not send cake, cupcakes, balloons, party favors, or party invitations to school as these will not be distributed. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school you may purchase ice cream from our cafeteria for your child’s class.
- Please email your Explorer’s teacher to find out how many students are in their class.
- Email our Cafeteria Manger Bethany Lopez at Lopezb3@fultonschools.org to place your order at least TWO FULL WEEKS IN ADVANCE of your Explorer’s birthday.
- Ice cream is still $1 each for birthdays. The simplest way to handle the cost is to have money on your Explorers account via MySchoolBucks.
NEW CAFETERIA PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT FUND
This year, with the new lunch system, our school community has the capability to create a Cafeteria Principal Account Fund. This account would be used to fulfill any meal costs for students that reach an account balance of zero. We often have families and extended family members that ask if or how they can pay off lunch balances or support our students in this way, now the process of doing so is easy!
Should you be interested in adding to the Cafeteria Principal Account Fund, just send a check or cash to school in an envelope to Ms. Bethany Lopez, Cafeteria Manager and notate that the funds go to the Principal Fund. Please reach out to Ms. Lopez lopezb3@fultonschools.org if you have any questions.
