Weekly Message from Mrs. Hanford

Families,

Important news!

The Truscott and Cottonwood Plains Elementary School closure message on the Thompson School District website has been changed to the following message:

After reviewing Board of Education policy and process, options I and J were removed from consideration because these schools’ programs fall outside the Master Plan Committee’s purview. District staff will work with school personnel to continue supporting the Dual Language Immersion program and evaluate barriers to enrollment.

In other words, Truscott has been removed from the list of schools under consideration for consolidation.

Thank you for your support of our school community! It has made a difference for our students, families and staff. We will have another SAC meeting on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 11:00 - 12:00 pm. During this meeting we will discuss how to increase enrollment numbers and how as a school community we can continue to advocate for the Spanish Dual Language Immersion program within our district. The meeting will be in person or virtual at this link:

Thank you for your attendance at Family Conferences! We had a tremendous turnout and enjoyed our time with each of you. We appreciate your partnership and are so grateful for this school community!

Enjoy your long weekend!

All the best,

Karen Hanford

Letter from the District about the Climate and Culture Survey

Notice: 2026-27 Climate and Culture Survey

In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we ask students in grades 3-12 to participate in an online survey. The survey content asks students to self-reflect on emotional regulation, social awareness, growth mindset, perseverance, sense of belonging, school safety, and teacher-student relationships.

Your student will be invited to participate in the full online survey during regular school hours at the end of October. When the survey is introduced, students will be invited to participate and informed that they do not have to answer any questions they do not wish to answer. The full survey should take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete.

In addition to this full survey, students will also have opportunities throughout the year to take shorter, more frequent surveys called Check-ins. These Check-ins will take just a few minutes to complete and will use questions drawn from and aligned to the full survey. This will provide timely feedback on how students are feeling and engaging in their learning. The information gathered from Check-ins will help school staff provide more immediate and responsive support for students.

You can review survey questions here: Grades 3-5 SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 6-12 SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 3-5 Supports & Environments Survey, Grades 6-12 Supports & Environments Survey

Student responses to both the full survey and Check-ins will follow our district’s expectations for maintaining confidentiality for your student. Our this-party vendor, Panorama, has signed the district's data privacy agreement to ensure all required online encryption protocols are followed.

Parents/guardians have already provided your consent or opt-out through online registration or annual family update; if you have any questions, please contact Tanya Brown 970 613 6917 tanya.brown@tsd.org

Tanya Brown (970)613-6917 tanya.brown@tsd.org
