MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
First Term Wrap-Up & Academic Support
The first term ends on Wednesday, October 15th, and we want every student to finish strong!
Teachers are available for extra academic support every Wednesday morning from 8:30–9:30 a.m. Students or parents can coordinate directly with teachers to arrange help during this time.
Please encourage your student to check their MyDSD account regularly, stay on top of assignments, and take advantage of these Wednesday support sessions if needed.
Thank you for partnering with us to help all of our Titans succeed!
Have a great Weekend!
SHS Administration
Lockdown Sep 30
On Tuesday, September 30, Syracuse High will conduct a lockdown drill. Following each drill, the administration works with local law enforcement to discuss areas of strength and improvement. We then reteach and train based on the discussion to ensure protocols are being followed to the best extent.
Prior to the drill, your student’s teacher will review drill procedures for their classroom spaces. We appreciate your support as we refine our process and prepare for possible emergencies.
Lockdown Information:
A lockdown requires students and teachers to clear the hallways, lock their classrooms, turn out the lights, move out of sight, and maintain silence. Individuals remain silent until first responders clear hallways and unlock each door. Parents and visitors inside the building follow these lockdown procedures as well.
A lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. In the event of an actual lockdown, the school contacts 911, and local police and other emergency agencies will gather at the school to coordinate the response. The situation is then under the command of the lead police agency.
During a real lockdown, parents will be informed and instructed by the Davis School District for follow-up procedures. Information is distributed through a call-out, which includes an email and text message (if you opted in to receive texts). That being said, please take a few minutes to update your phone numbers and emergency contacts.
Updates would be posted to the school’s website, as well as the district’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. If you are not yet connected to the district’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, we recommend you do so.
We appreciate your cooperation as we practice fire and lockdown procedures with your child. We value your child and their safety and want to be prepared in the event of an actual threat.
PSAT/NMSQT - Oct 22
The PSAT is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT exam. You can only take the PSAT once per year, and many students take the test in both 10th and 11th grade.
The PSAT tests your skills in reading, writing, and math. Unlike the SAT, the highest score possible on the PSAT is 1520.
WHY SHOULD YOUR STUDENT TAKE THE PSAT TEST?
• To help your student prepare for the ACT and/or SAT.
• To receive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college.
• To see how their performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.
• To enter the competition for scholarships for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
• To receive information from colleges.
Syracuse High School will be administering the test on Wednesday, October 22nd. The test will begin at approximately 7:30 AM and students will be finished before lunch. This is a school excused absence.
This test is for sophomores and juniors. The fee is $18 to be paid in the main office, and the last day to sign up for the test is Monday, October 10th, or until the spots are filled. There are a limited amount of tests, so please sign up soon. Once you are registered, we will provide a study guide. Room assignments will be posted the day before and morning of the test in the main office.
If you have any questions, please come and see your counselor before or after school, or during lunch.
