Parent-Community Outreach Coordinator, PEA, ESP

Thank you! For Partnering with Us!

We are so proud to announce that the list of local businesses, stakeholders, and partnerships continues to increase and grow as we welcomed a new partnership with yet another local Hyattsville organization - SDR Lodge #139. The Shelton D. Redden Lodge #139 is a community service-based organization serving Prince George's County and has been a county fixture in the Hyattsville community for over twenty years. Located not too far from our school campus on Sargent Road this Fraternal Brothers of freemason organization provided 20 FREE Christmas Dinners to our school families on Saturday, December 19, 2021, at our feeder school Ridgecrest Elementary on Riggs Road. We are so very grateful and appreciative to SDR Lodge #139 for choosing to make the holiday seasons merry and bright for our school families and we look forward to a long and prosperous new partnership in the school years to come.

Want to SLEEP like a baby or a toddler again?

Sleep researchers say that the pandemic has caused Pandemic disruption-related insomnia in many of our sleep patterns. In a word your sleep has been permanently disturbed. However, if you will include the following suggestions into your daily routines you can begin to feel much better rested in no time.

#1. Set a “fixed” bedtime - Lights out at the same time nightly will greatly increase your ability to rest peacefully.

#2. Take a Hot bath or Shower – Our body temperature naturally drops when we sleep. But hot water dilates your blood vessels causing the body to relax quickly.

#3. Apply Lotion – A sleep study shows that infants who receive a bedtime massage with lotion experience longer periods of sleep. Adults can also benefit from the same experience.

#4. Engage in a quiet activity – READ before bedtime. Researchers found that language-bedtime routines were associated with longer nighttime sleep duration.

So now that you know what to do to improve your sleep health. You should try to get more ZZZZZZzzzzzzz…Night, night and sweet dreams.

Tech Time Notes with Mr. Daniels…

Hello Parents! Here’s what you should know about what we encourage our students (your child) to remember to do in order to take care of school equipment properly.

Students of Nicholas Orem:

You, and you alone, are responsible for the School Assigned Chromebook you are currently using. No one else is to use, borrow, or keep your Chromebook for any reason. YOU are to use it responsibly and know where it is at all times.

Proper Usage/Transport of Chromebooks:

· Have your name placed inside the plastic slot at the back of the Verizon travel bag

· When not using Chromebook, keep them closed and/or place them inside your Verizon travel case

· Leave keyboard buttons secured to the Chromebook

· Do your Chromebook Updates WEEKLY

· Click here for Chromebook Updating Instructions, and other troubleshooting tips, power issues, etc)

For LOST/Damaged Chromebooks (Cracked Screens or cases, liquid spills, missing keys on keyboard):

- Bring a $30 Money Order (cash not accepted by PG County), written to 'PGCPS' to school

- Get a pass to come to Room 100 to see Mr. Daniels, during 1st Mod after Morning Announcements

For Misplaced Chromebooks:

· Go back to all previous mods or assigned School Bus, to ensure it was not accidentally misplaced

· Report your Lost Chromebook to Security and give them your Name, Grade Level, and ID number

· If a potential loaner is given (not guaranteed), you will need to leave your cellphone with Room 100 that you can retrieve at the end of the day

For a LOANER Chromebook or Power cord:

· Students will give their name, grade level, and HR teacher along with their CELLPHONE as collateral to be loaned one for the day. They will get their cellphone on the return of the item.

Words of Support from our very own Tech Team Leader Mr. Daniels.
