Greetings Eagles!

This weekend was a whirlwind of celebration and achievement. Our community came together to honor tradition and progress, and I am incredibly proud of how our students, staff, and families represented our school. Our homecoming weekend kicked off on Friday with an inspiring visit from alumna and accomplished Olympian Shamier Little, who energized the school community with her achievements and words of wisdom. The day continued with a lively Fall Pep Rally, hosted by DJ Hot Rod and the Pep Rally Take Over, setting the tone for a weekend full of excitement and pride. The celebrations continued with the AC Sneakerball, where students arrived in style, blending elegance and individuality in their stylish dresses and dapper suits.

The excitement continued into Saturday. Our football team gave their all at the Homecoming Game, with incredible support from students, staff, families, and alumni. The weekend culminated in the HS Homecoming Dance at the Swissotel, where joy and school spirit filled the ballroom. The overwhelming majority of our students represented themselves, their families, and our school with pride, maturity, and dignity during the dance.

However, we must also address the importance of responsibility. A few students made poor decisions by attempting to bring contraband into the dance. While this was disappointing, it did not overshadow the many who exemplified our school’s core values. We want to remind everyone that we will not tolerate contraband at school or any school event. Those involved will face consequences, including safety plans restricting their attendance at future events.

Parents, we ask for your partnership in this matter. Please check your students' bags, backpacks, and purses to ensure they are not carrying prohibited substances or items to school or school events. Students, we ask for your partnership as well. If you enjoyed the events we experienced this weekend, we encourage you to talk to your fellow students and discourage them from doing things they aren’t supposed to do. We can all work together to ensure LMSA is substance-free at school and school events.

As a community, we believe in holding ourselves to high standards. To whom much is given, much is required. Let's continue to support and uplift one another as we celebrate our successes and learn from the challenges.

Sincerely,

Principal Banks

Special shoutouts to our AC students for demonstrating stellar behavior at their first dance of the school year.

Parent Spotlight

We had a few parents to volunteer for our events this week. The work that it takes to ensure students experience joy, particulary after school hours, is contingent on having support. We are so thankful for the parents that were able to lend their time. Thank you, Tia Mallory (Pep Rally), Natatia Trotter-Gordan (HS Dance), Rahsaan Liddell (HS Dance), Markeeta Outlaw (HS Dance), Alyssa Walker (AC Dance), Sharese Bradley (AC Dance), and Natalie Mills (AC Dance).

Drop Off/Pick Up

Students can be dropped off or picked up on Wolcott and Winchester. Double Parking is prohibited! Please be considerate of the handicap ramps on Winchester and DO NOT park in front of the ramp. There is Safe Passage surrounding the perimeter of Lindblom and we'd like to enforce a "Kiss and Go" to avoid traffic back-ups; therefore, consider use of alternate blocks (like Damen, 61st Street, etc) for ease of traffic.

Students may enter the building through Door 3 (on Wolcott) or Door 9 (on Winchester). Please be mindful that these are the only doors that students should exit during/after dismissal.

Attendance

"Attendance Matters".....this is a slogan that will be uttered often to our Eagles as we prepare them for post-secondary life. Our week six attendance ended with 93%. Please keep in mind that late arrivals and early departures impact student's attendance record (one (1) missed block = 0.5 day attendance).
