Document Camera

If you have a document camera you can still use it in your google meets! You will simple share your screen and use your document camera as usual.

Ipad as Document Camera

If you don't have a document camera consider this option. Log into your Google Meet on your phone or school issued ipad. Mute your mic on your computer and mute your computer so that the only input and output sound is from your phone or ipad. You can still see your students on your computer while you use your phone or ipad as your document camera. You can use a stack of books or purchase something like this to position your phone or ipad for optimal positioning. Click here for a video to see how it is done.

Tip: K/1 students will automatically see your "document camera" because you are the one speaking and the ipads default to show the speaker. 2/3 users you will need to have your students pin the "document camera" by clicking on the little push pin on that selected screen. To "unpin" simply click that push pin icon again to go back to grid view.

OSMO as Document Camera

For those that have OSMOs, you can now use these directions to turn your OSMO into a doc camera!

Below is a video tutorial to help.

How do I present my screen and see my students at the same time?

There is now a Google Chrome Extension called Dualless! This allows for a click of a button and.... Tada! Your screen is divided to be able to see both your meet and what you are presenting! Watch the tutorial below for more instruction. Here are written directions for Dualless and other Google Meet Options.

Can I use a whiteboard during my live teaching?

Yes!

You can still use a white board, poster or butcher paper to write while teaching in your google meet. It will look backwards on your screen but students will see it the correct way.

If you would like to try a virtual whiteboard check out Jamboard by Google. This an interactive digital whiteboard that can be shared so your students can collaborate with you. Click here to learn more about Jamboard.

BONUS: Google has announced that Jamboard will be INTEGRATED into Google Meet coming soon!

Video Sharing Problems? Video Sharing Problems?

zoom_out_map
Some teachers have noted that:

a) students can't hear their videos they are sharing

OR

b) there's a bad echo during video sharing

Google has suggested that when you want to present a video for students to watch, make sure that you share a SPECIFIC TAB in Chrome. That SHOULD alleviate the problem!

Can't See Students' Names? Can't See Students' Names?

zoom_out_map
During some meets, students' names are not visible. This can be especially challenging for our Enhancement teams, who may still be learning 100's of student names! This is happening with people using Grid View. Here is the quick fix:

  1. Click on the Grid in top right corner.
  2. Make sure that the box beside "Enable Screen Capture Mode" is UNCHECKED.

Google Meet Etiquette

Be sure to go over proper Google Meet Etiquette with your students just as you would go over rules and procedures in your classroom. Each student will receive a copy of the chart below to remind them of our Star behavior even in a digital environment. Click here for your own copy.

Student Ipad Meet Codes Cheat Sheet Student Ipad Meet Codes Cheat Sheet

zoom_out_map
Since our next supply pick up is coming soon, it may be helpful to include a student meet code "cheat sheet" for our K-1 students. A lot of those students are at daycares, and need to be more independent with their schedules. Providing a student meet code "cheat sheet" would be great for them to keep in their tool boxes or pencil boxes and have beside them while working. HERE is an example what that may look like.

Links on a Slide with the iPads Links on a Slide with the iPads

Some students are having a hard time clicking on links. This could be an easy fix! Make sure that if your students are accessing links through a google slide and they can't click them, make sure that either:

a) ask them to click present in the top right hand corner

OR

b) when you share the link to their slides, ERASE everything starting with word edit in the url, and type the word present.

Watch the video below to see how!
