Bobcat Bulletin
October 10, 2025
Greetings Moretown Families,
I want to start this week’s bulletin by thanking everyone who joined us for our Community Bike event and Open House last evening. We had a wonderful turnout, and it was such a joy to see students proudly share their work, classrooms, and school community with their caregivers. A special thank you goes out to our amazing staff who inspire students every day and find creative ways to celebrate their growth and learning.
Yesterday, MES welcomed 18 student volunteers, 2 teachers, and 2 community members as part of Harwood’s Harvest Festival and Day of Service. Volunteers spent the day helping around our campus—clearing brush from an ECO classroom space, tidying up the Story Walk trail with Chris Stephenson, hanging new Safety Zone signs with Mike Brown, and spending time supporting students in classrooms throughout the school.
Each year, the village of Moretown welcomes an eager crowd of trick-or-treaters! To support our neighbors who experience this extra excitement, we’re collecting donations of unopened bags of candy. Donations can be dropped off at school through Thursday, October 30th. Our afterschool students in the NOW program will then deliver them to village residents. Thank you for helping us spread a little sweetness in the community!
Speaking of Halloween, a quick reminder that costumes and props should stay home. While dressing up for trick-or-treating is lots of fun, it can be tough to focus on learning while dressed as Spiderman or a glittery unicorn—and we’d hate for costumes to get damaged before the big night! Thanks for helping us keep the focus on learning during the school day.
Finally, with teachers engaged in professional learning today, please remember there is no school on Monday, October 13th in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, October 14th.
Ms. Kate

Music News from Mr. Hill
Moretown students are back to singing and playing in music class!
Kindergarteners explore a variety of readiness activities that will help them develop as singers, as keepers of the beat, and as musically creative people.
Our first and second grade musicians continue to focus on play-based singing and dancing while building on their early musical education. They start naming some of the musical concepts they have internalized and can already perform. We begin to sing with solfege (do, re, mi, etc.), we learn to recognize and read rhythm patterns, we play instruments, and we expand our repertoire of creative movement ideas.
Third through sixth graders begin building a deeper degree of musical skill and understanding. We are engaging with music through a variety of activities that will challenge, expand, and develop skills with creativity, singing, dance, music literacy, and theoretical learning. During these years they learn to sing harmony with canons, rounds, and partner songs. They learn to improvise, and they will compose and arrange their own music. They learn to play the ukulele and recorder. The two groups, 3/4 and 5/6, will part ways as the year progresses and the older students cover more ground.
Please check for periodic posts on the music blog featuring students from all four MRV elementary schools at madrivervalleymusic.blogspot.com
Best Wishes,
Jeremy Hill

Calling All Families with Young Children
The Harwood Unified Union School District (HUUSD) is planning for the future, and we need your help.
If you live in Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Waterbury, or Warren and have a child under age 5 who is not yet registered at your local public school, please contact the school in your town of residence. This helps us plan ahead for next year and beyond. You can also make sure that the schools know about your child by completing this quick form, ensuring we have your contact information and have your child on our future students’ list.
💡 Even if your child won’t start school for a few years, letting us know now ensures they’re included in our planning.
Please also share this message with neighbors, friends, or family who have young children in our towns.
Thank you for helping us prepare for the future of our schools!
