Springdale K8 Community Memo
Weekly Memo: January 10, 2024
This week, our Springdale K8 started our mid-year screening testing to help us know which students might need additional support. These tests help teachers see which students are likely to meet the end-of-year learning goals, and which ones need more help. Our school uses FastBridge Learning assessments to screen students in the following areas.
- Early Reading and Math: K and 1st grade students work with support staff to complete assessments in a one-on-one session.
- Reading Testing: 2nd to 8th grade students complete 30-60 computer-based reading questions that are selected based on the student's grade and skill level. Includes questions related to all reading skill areas.
- Math Testing: 2nd to 8th grade students complete 30 computer-based math questions that are selected based on the student's grade and skill level. Includes questions related to all math skill areas.
- mySAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief screening completed by all students in 2nd to 8th grade. This tool helps identify those who are at risk for social-emotional behavior (SEB) problems
- SAEBRS, is a teacher observation rating scale that all k-8th grade teachers use to help screen students who may need some additional social-emotional support.
The teachers look at the screening scores immediately after the testing and compare their students’ scores with other information about school performance. Those students whose scores are low across different tests are provided with additional support to help them meet learning goals.
Colder weather is in the forecast!
Each day our students have outside recess time before school, mid morning, at lunch and mid afternoon. These are short little breaks to provide students with some physical activity to help release energy and reduce stress. Please be sure to send students to school with coats, gloves and hats during our winter weather.
We move recess inside when the weather is a steady rain or a temperature below 20 degrees.
Friday School, on 01.19.24
We will not have school on Monday, but will have a full 4-day school week with school on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
