The Husky Bulletin 10/15/2024

Principal Corner
Dear Oak View Families,
As we reflect upon the first month and a half of school, we have so many things to celebrate across the school and our community. We surpassed our fundraising goals and had an amazing turnout for our Fun Run. We are fully implementing some new building systems to address student engagement and behavior that is having a really positive impact across the system. We’ve created a new sensory room for students who need more movement and support in their day called the Husky Den. We’ve added a new positive student recognition program called Husky Pride that will be highlighting students each month. All students will receive a special month where they will be recognized for their talents and it’s a chance for them to share about themselves, their families and cultures. We also are implementing a mindful curriculum that is based on brain research that helps students learn how to regulate their emotions and strong feelings. It’s also showing really positive results with helping students focus as they move into academic work. The list goes on and on. I want to thank all of you for your support and all these incredible educators that are working so closely together to align our work across Oak View. You can feel a really positive and loving vibe as you walk the halls each day. I do have some requests and need some support from families regarding a few things I’ll mention below. Thank you again for your support and love for the Oak View Community!
Sincerely,
Principal Gibbs
Chips and Treats
Please help us by keeping chips, treats and candy at home. We’re having some challenges with some students bringing big bags of chips and candy to school and sharing them during lunch. If a student brings their personal lunch, those items can absolutely be a part of their meal but we ask that students don’t share them at their tables. If students are eating school lunch or breakfast, they should keep those items home.
Illnesses
Please help us keep students and staff healthy by keeping students' home if they are sick. We’ve had some significant staffing challenges because of all the illnesses that are going around. If a student has a fever, they need to stay home and be fever free for 24 hours. Here are some tips to help support our bodies health:
Eat a variety of foods. If you eat different foods including fruits and vegetables, you are more likely to get the nutrients your body needs to grow and function.
Drink water and milk. You need to drink about 8 glasses of water and up to 3 cups of milk every day to stay hydrated and have strong bones.
Listen to your body. Are you still hungry or are you already full? When eating, take notice of your body and eat according to your hunger.
Limit screen time. Try to spend less than 2 hours a day watching TV or playing video games so you can have more time for outdoor activities like biking, basketball or swimming.
Be active. Go and explore! Try a lot of new things and figure out your passions and talents.
Picture Re-Take Day
Picture re-take day is on October 24th. Here is how re-take day works:
- If your child was not here on our original date, we will automatically take their picture.
- If your child was here but you want their picture re-taken, you MUST let their teacher know by October 23rd.
Parent Pick-Up Reminder
Just a friendly reminder that if you are changing your student(s) end of day procedure, i.e. change from taking the bus home to getting picked up, we ask that you call and/or email the office to let them know. The office team will call the teachers to notify them of any changes.
If you are making a change from bus/Kidstop to parent pick-up, you MUST call by 3:15. If you call after that we will not make any changes to the schedule.
Silent Disco
The Husky Hustle Fun Run is over, and it's time to celebrate!
We surpassed our goal of $35,000! Together we raised $39,585 for Oak View. In times like these, thank you never seems like enough.
To celebrate our reaching our goal and everyone's hard work, ALL Oak View students will be celebrating with a silent disco dance party at the end of the month! The silent disco will be taking place on October 30th and 31st during each classes' gym time. We get to create 3 different playlists with appropriate songs, and we would LOVE your student(s) song requests. Please send us appropriate song requests here.
Thank you for supporting your student and Oak View!
We could not have done it without our amazing families.
