2025 and 2026 Accountability Ratings- Moving in the RIGHT Direction! 2025 and 2026 Accountability Ratings- Moving in the RIGHT Direction!

Bowie ISD 2025–2026 Accountability Ratings

Bowie ISD has received its A–F Accountability Ratings for the 2025–2026 school year. The district earned an overall B rating, which is a bump from last year's C rating. Campus-level ratings are as follows:

  • Bowie High School (BHS): B - 1 Distinctions were earned, Student Achievement-90!

  • Bowie Junior High (BJH): B - 4 Distinctions were earned!

  • Bowie Intermediate/Elementary (BIS/BES): C- 16 pt jump in individual; growth and an 11 pt jump in comparative growth (compared to similar districts)

Over the last three years, Bowie ISD has shown steady improvement in all three Domains of the accountability system: Student Achievement, School Progress (Growth), and Closing the Gaps. While we are not yet where we want to be, our trend shows that we are moving in the right direction.

To continue this progress, Bowie ISD is committed to using data-driven instruction, targeted professional development, goal setting and proven instructional strategies. These supports are built into both the District Improvement Plan and each campus’s plan, ensuring that every school has clear goals and the resources needed to reach them.

The A-F Accountability results were shared with the Board of Trustees in the August meeting, noting that the district will remain focused on raising achievement for all students. Celebrations for campus successes and next steps in regards to Accountability were shared. The full presentation to the Board, which includes details about campus scores and plans for continued improvement can be found here.

September is Attendance Awareness Month September is Attendance Awareness Month

Each September, we celebrate Attendance Awareness Month to partner with our families and community as a reminder of the importance of being present in school. The district attendance goal is 96%. Attending school regularly not only makes children feel better about school, but also about themselves. Showing up for school has a significant impact on a student’s academic growth, including better test scores and higher graduation rates.

Families play a key role in making sure students get to school every day and helping their children understand why attendance is so important. Building good habits from as early as Pre-K teaches children that every day is important.

Ways to Help Your Child Reach Attendance Goals

  • Make attendance a priority and talk to your student about showing up every day.
  • Maintain daily routines, set a time for your student to go to bed, wake up, have a healthy breakfast and get to school on time.
  • Visit your student’s school and get involved and volunteer.
  • Get to know the principal, teachers, attendance clerks and your student’s friends.
  • Attend parent conferences, meet the teacher night and open house.
  • Understand the difference between excused and unexcused absences.
  • Contact your student’s teachers and inquire about the ABC’s of school: Attendance, Behavior and Classes.
  • Ensure students have the supplies, uniforms and equipment needed for the school day.

Did You Know?

  • Missing just 2 days a month adds up to 10% of the school year. Over the course of the school year, this can greatly affect a student’s academic success.
  • For Pre-K and Kindergarten, missing school makes it harder to gain early reading and math skills, build relationships and develop good attendance habits.
  • By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
  • By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th-grade test scores.

Standard Response Protocol - Emergency Actions

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority in Bowie ISD. To ensure we are prepared for any situation, all campuses use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). This system provides clear, consistent language and actions for emergency situations.

Bowie ISD practices five different drills throughout the year. These drills help students and staff know exactly what to do if an emergency arises. By practicing regularly, we can respond quickly and effectively to keep everyone safe.

The five drills are:

  • Hold – Stay in place, clear hallways

  • Secure – Lock doors, keep learning going inside

  • Lockdown – Locks, lights, out of sight

  • Evacuate – Move to a designated location

  • Shelter – Take protective actions (such as during severe weather)

If one of these situations occurs in real life, our staff and students are trained to execute the protocol calmly and effectively.

For more information about the Standard Response Protocol, visit the “I Love U Guys” Foundation website at https://iloveuguys.org.

See Something/ Say Something

Bowie ISD is committed to keeping our students safe. To support this effort, the district maintains a Tip Line that allows parents, students, and community members to report concerns that may affect our campuses.

Concerns may include, but are not limited to:

  • Threats of violence

  • Bullying or harassment

  • Drug use or distribution

  • Suspected abuse or neglect

  • Any other issue that could impact a student’s physical safety or health

When submitting a tip, please provide as many details as possible—such as dates, times, names, and locations—so the matter can be investigated appropriately. While tips may be submitted anonymously, it is often helpful if we are able to contact you for additional information.

You can access the Tip Line by:

  • Clicking the reporting form link on the top corner of every BISD website

  • Using the BISD mobile app

  • Scanning the QR code displayed on all BISD campuses

Your voice matters. When you see something, say something -together, we can ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all Bowie ISD students.

🎉 Safety Measures! 🎒

Bowie ISD is fortunate to have a School Resource Officer (SRO) on every campus. Our SROs play a vital role in maintaining a safe learning environment by:

  • Conducting daily door checks

  • Checking in with staff and students

  • Responding to threats or concerns

  • Building positive relationships with students

In addition to the presence of SROs, Bowie ISD continues to strengthen campus security we have:

  • Keyless entry on all exterior doors

  • Wearable emergency buttons for administrators and substitutes

  • Wall-mounted emergency buttons on each campus

The wearable and wall-mounted devices are connected directly to 911 and provide immediate notification to first responders in the event of an emergency.

These measures, combined with the dedication of our staff and SROs, ensure that the safety and security of our students remain a top priority in Bowie ISD.

Counseling & Support Services – Consent is required before students can participate in guidance lessons, goal-setting, or short-term support services.
