Town Meeting 2026

As a reminder Hingham's Town Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27 and Tuesday April 28 (if needed) at Hingham High School.

For those who hope to participate in what has been described as "the purest form of democracy", we will have planned two homework free evenings, which will hopefully make it a little easier for you to attend.

At this year's Town Meeting, in addition to the presentation and vote of our proposed FY27 school operating budget, there will additionally be four warrant articles relating to the schools:

ARTICLE 10: Transfer of Funds to the Reserve Fund

Annual transfer of funds to the Reserve Fund to cover extraordinary FY26 municipal and school expenditures, including Special Education Out of District (OOD) tuition, OOD transportation, and specialized services.

ARTICLE 18: School Department Extraordinary Capital Needs

The Extraordinary Capital Funds would cover emergency repairs for South, PRS and HHS roofs and HHS HVAC; provides a bridge until completion of pending MSBA projects.

ARTICLE 19: High School Life Safety System & East ERU

Requests funds to replace the High School Fire Safety System and replacement of East School Energy Recovery Units.

ARTICLE 29: Employee Health Care Cost Subsidy

Seeks funding for a study of health care costs for municipal and school employees, and proposes a one year Health Insurance Subsidy for town and school employees.

Celebrating Culture: Cherry Blossom Festival

Our World Culture Club recently explored the beauty of Japan’s Cherry Blossom Festival! Students got creative by crafting their own cherry blossom branches using sticks and tissue paper, bringing this iconic symbol of spring to life. Along the way, they also discovered a fascinating fact—many of the cherry blossom trees in Washington, D.C. were a gift from Japan, symbolizing friendship between the two nations.

Important Message to DC Trip Participants and Families

As a reminder to those students travelling to DC, permission slips and related forms are due when we return from break on April 27.

This permission slip and medication approval list allows our trip nurses and leaders to assist your student with any concerns that may occur while on the trip. There is also a packing list for you to use when helping your student pack.

If you have any questions, please contact Mark McCulloch at mmcculloch@hinghamschools.org.

National Poetry Month

To celebrate National Poetry Month (April), grade eight students read a variety of poems and chose lines that spoke to them, which in turn inspired their own original compositions.

Below is just one example of the excellent work they did.

"The Land Beyond the Shore" - by Zoe Mullette

Inspired by James Whitcomb Riley’s “The Used To Be”

A land enchanted, such a swung in golden seas where sirens clung.

Where glittering sands are shifting and flung.

Out in the field, flowers bloom,

they are the glow of the moon.

A land enchanted, full of thick breeze.

Where the scent of lavender shakes the trees.

Down in the caves, the lanterns lie low,

but in the elegant grass the daffodils flow.

Like a watercolor painting, seashells form.

They make an ever-raging storm.

Where bright colors swirl, and thoughts entangle.

The light hits the perfect angle.

Though in the sleek air the bluebirds fly.

But none is louder than I.

A land enchanted by the sun.

as if the animals have true fun.
