Happy Friday, Falcon Families!

Another busy and exciting week at DES! Our Falcons have been hard at work learning, exploring, and having fun in their classrooms. It has been wonderful to see so much excitement for learning throughout the building. From engaging classroom activities to hands-on experiences, our students continue to amaze us with their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm each day!

Our PreK students continued their Fire Safety learning this week with fun, age-appropriate activities focused on staying safe and understanding the important role firefighters play in our community. Our youngest Falcons have had a great time learning these important safety lessons!

Our ACE programs are also off to a fantastic start! It has been exciting to see students participating in a variety of activities, exploring new interests, building friendships, and having fun beyond the classroom. Our DES Chorus is also in full swing, and we love hearing our talented Falcons practicing and sharing their love of music!

One of our favorite parts of the week is recognizing students who are Caught Doing Good! Whether they are showing kindness, helping a friend, making responsible choices, or going above and beyond, our Falcons continue to demonstrate what makes DES such a special place. We are so proud of the positive choices our students make each day!

Be sure to check out the photos below of our Falcons who were Caught Doing Good this week, along with information about upcoming events and important dates to remember.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Updates from the Week Updates from the Week

Notification of Annual Health Screenings

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Dighton – Rehoboth School Health Services program supports student academic success by promoting health in the school setting. One way that we provide care for your child is by performing the health screenings as mandated by the State of Massachusetts. Screenings are not a diagnostic tool, but rather a means of identifying potential problems that can affect a child’s performance in school. The following health screenings will start in October and will continue throughout the school year:

  • Vision –Grades Pre K - 4th grade

  • Hearing – Grades Pre K- 3rd grade

  • Growth and Development - (height and weight) – Grades 1 and 4

If your child is tested, and the results are not in the “normal” range for the vision and hearing screen, you will be notified by letter. If you receive a letter, it is recommended that you take your child to a doctor or healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation.

  • If you want your child to participate in the screenings for his/her grade, no further action is required.

  • If you do not want your child to participate in any or all of the screenings, please send a letter to the school nurse. This request must be written each year and be specific to which screening(s) you would like your child to opt out of participating.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school nurse, Mrs. Alberto,

at (508) 669 4247 ext 1103

ST Math Update

We know how much our students love ST Math, and we are thrilled to see their enthusiasm for learning! Some students have already completed nearly 90% of their puzzles for the entire school year!

At this time, we are asking families to please have students complete ST Math activities at school only, rather than at home. This will help ensure that students have enough puzzles available to complete during classroom instruction and can continue progressing through the program alongside their classmates.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to keep ST Math an engaging and meaningful part of our students' school day!

Unified Kids Club

The Unified Kids Club has been having a blast! Week 1 we spent some time getting to know one another, making connections and friendships and talking about what unified means. We created a paper chain of our names and cut and delivered strips to every person in the building. Our mission is to make one HUGE, school wide chain that visualizes what it means to be unified. We will hang our chain proudly in the cafeteria where everyone can see that they belong and are a part of the DES community.

This week during week 2 we did a scavenger hunt around the building. We had fun bopping in and out of rooms and hallways looking for clues. Each clue was at a place in our building that serves our community and supports friendships, kindness, inclusion etc… Unified Kids will be using their “noticing” skills to look for opportunities to be a good friend to those around them. If you can notice an envelope on a scavenger hunt, you can notice a friend in need!

We are a group of peer leaders in training, working hard to impact our school community with one small act of kindness at a time. Kindness and inclusion can change the world!
