All asphalt at Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School will be replaced in the upcoming days and weeks. This project will disrupt some operations around campus depending on which phase of the project is active.

For the upcoming week (Week of 8/21/2023), there are planned closures around the playground structures, the playground restrooms, and the areas between the building and the field. Based on construction activity, we may hold indoor recess rather than outdoor recess. We will provide an update next week about the planned impacts for the following week.

As we continue into the school year, you will start to see homework being assigned. This year, we will be focusing homework on reading minutes, working on ST Math, and practicing math facts. Students will bring home a weekly page that includes information about what they will be learning that week and a spot for families to record the minutes spent on each activity each evening. These pages are to be returned to the teacher at the end of the week. You will not see traditional packets as homework. If you have questions about homework, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Regular school attendance is critical for student learning and achievement. Avoidable absences negatively impact a student's progress, and we appreciate families getting students to school on time each and every school day!

Please take a moment to review the following dress code information from the LWJES Family Guidebook. We appreciate families reviewing this information with students as well and checking for dress code each day before school.

• All students must wear shorts, skorts, skirts, and jumpers/dresses that are fingertip length. All jeans, pants, and trousers must be secured at waist level. No rips or tears that expose undergarments and/or located at mid-thigh or higher.
• All clothing must conceal undergarments. No skin to show between bottom of shirt/blouse and top of pants/skirts at any time. Sleeveless shirts must have straps at least 3” wide. No clothing that provides minimum coverage.
• We require the wearing of shoes with soles. Tennis shoes are recommended. Shoes with wheels and house slippers are not allowed.
• Hats or headgear may be worn outside only, except on special occasions, or for bona fide reasons.
