Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year and our first Friday family newsletter! We are looking forward to working together to make sure that your student(s) have a fantastic school year.
This newsletter contains information about upcoming important events, photos of our students doing fantastic things, and a special section from our Guidance Department. It will be helpful for you to check out these sections so that you can help your student(s) stay organized and prepared.
It’s been exciting to see more and more students in the building as we are getting closer to the first day of school. Today, our freshmen participated in their Transition Day and met their new Link Crew Leaders with whom they will be working throughout the school year. We will have some photos to share in next week’s BHS Express!
We hope you and your students have a fantastic weekend, and we look forward to meeting all of you at our Open House on August 13th from 3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. You and your student(s) will be able to pick up class schedules, tour the building, and meet teachers.
In service to our Bulldogs.

Hi, Bulldog Families.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing summer. I’m excited to start my seventh year in the district, and my fifth year at BHS.
Below, I am providing information on a variety of topics that are commonly discussed at the start of the school year.
One specific area I handle is attendance and truancy. School attendance laws continue to become more strict in Ohio. Attendance is critical to student success. Below I have included the state and district guidelines for student attendance.
As of September 30, 2025, Ohio law defines a “chronically absent” student as “missing at least ten per cent of the minimum number of hours required in the school year”. The minimum number of hours referenced are also defined in Ohio law. Time missed from school for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences, will contribute to chronic absenteeism.
Students only need to miss 2-3 days per month to be chronically absent by the end of the year. Schools and districts can provide support to the student and his or her family before the student has missed 10 percent of the school year. No later than August 2026, schools and districts must adopt preventative measures for chronic absence into their local policies
Ohio law defines that a “habitual truant” is determined by certain thresholds of unexcused absences only:
- 30 or more consecutive hours (approximately 5 school days)
42 or more hours per month (approximately 7 school days)
72 or more hours per year (approximately 12 school days)
Ohio law defines a habitually truant student as “any child of compulsory school age who is absent without legitimate excuse for absence from the public school the child is supposed to attend for thirty or more consecutive hours, forty-two or more hours in one school month, or seventy-two or more hours in one school year.”
Chromebooks
Ninth grade students will receive their Chromebook at 9th grade transition day. We will also distribute Chromebooks at Open House on August 13th for 9th graders and students who are new to the district. We will also have Chromebooks available on the first day of school.
See everyone soon!
Go Bulldogs!

Hello, Families.
I hope everyone had a great summer break. Welcome back to the 2026-2027 school year. Here are a few things as we get ready to start the new school year.
The seniors that bought a parking pass/spot to be painted have been busy decorating their spots this past week. They look great! Nice job. Any senior that still needs to purchase a parking pass can. They’ve been receiving emails from me during the summer with instructions and a timeline. Spots must be painted for seniors by August 12th.
The timeline is pasted below:
Parking Pass Timeline for Seniors
July 13th - PaySchools opens for all drivers.(The PaySchools app may work better from a computer than a cell phone.)
July 24th - Last day for Seniors to purchase if they want to paint theirs spots. For approval.
July 31st - Senior parking pass pick up from 8-12pm @ the H.S.
August 3rd - Senior painting begins per approval of design.
August 12th - Senior painting must be completed prior to high school open house.
Parking passes can still be purchased for all student drivers online through PaySchools, or in person during business hours in the high school office. If you plan on paying in-person, please email me to check my availability.
Underclassmen parking passes will be distributed during Open House on August 13th from 3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Cost for the underclassmen parking pass is $50 for the year.
