Principal's Newsletter
By Robin Croteau M.Ed October 17th, 2025
The cooler weather is definitely upon us now and in an effort to preserve the heat inside our school building, I will not be opening the door at morning drop off until students have walked up the walkway and are right in front of me. With the cooler weather comes so many wonderful events over the next few weeks! The Miner Memorial Library Club will be starting on the 22nd, Parent/Teacher Conferences will be happening on the 24th and all of our students are gearing up to celebrate our long-standing Halloween tradition with the LCS Pumpkin Walk, Parade & Trunk Or Treat! If you did not get a chance to sign up for conferences at Open House, please contact your child's teacher to do so. We value the opportunity to meet with families and have these one-on-one conversations to make sure we are supporting all students the best way we can!
"LCS App" Is Up and Running!
The phone app that works in conjunction with our new website in finally downloadable! You can either scan the QR Code to the right or access the app store and find it there. It is the one with the green background featuring a wildcat paw. All of the same features that are available on the website translate to the app! Due to the way the website is set up, this may require you to "dig a little" if you are solely using the app to access attached documents. One benefit to the app is that you can enable push notifications and be alerted when a Live Feed, NEWS article or event right when it is posted! Again, we are excited about having this additional way to share information with families and the community at large! We appreciate everyone's patience as we are still learning how to most effectively utilize this resource.
It's Almost Pumpkin Time!
We are less than two weeks away from the LCS Tradition I got the most feedback about when I surveyed the community last spring. The LCS Pumpkin Walk and all the associated activities that happen prior to and following it! This year's Pumpkin Walk will be happening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 30th. Students are asked to drop of their decorated pumpkin (with battery-operated tea light) along the drop off/pick up wall between October 27th and the morning of the 30th. During this time each student's pumpkin is assigned only a number to keep the voting that occurs at the Pumpkin Walk free of bias. The middle school students will help students place their pumpkins along the LCS trail during the school day leading up to the walk.
The festivities for the community begin at 5:00 p.m. with the PTO Spooky Spaghetti Dinner in the cafeteria ($5 suggested donation). After this Middle School Music/Rock Band Students will be performing some festive musical numbers in the cafeteria from 6-6:30 p.m. then it's time for the Pumpkin Walk from 6:30-7:30 p.m.!!! Families are encouraged to bring a flashlight as they will walk the trail with ballot in hand and vote for the scariest and most creative pumpkins in the elementary (K-4) and middle school (5-8) competition bracket. Winners will bring home a trophy! Any additional donations will benefit the 8th grade class trips. Please wear good walking shoes as the trail conditions vary.
The very next day is actual Halloween! Prior to elementary classroom parties, all students will engage in the tradition of participating in a Costume Parade from 1:30-2:30 p.m. We begin within the school and move outside as we walk from one end of the building to the next. Parents are welcome to set up their cars and hand out candy or just come with a smile while our students participate in Trunk or Treat! We ask that students do not wear their costumes to school and come with them in their backpacks as the parade is not until the afternoon. No students are required to dress up but those who choose to participate should remember that all costumes must follow the school dress code, be free of weapons and not too scary or violent! I am very excited to be part of this community celebration this year!
NH Mathematics Landscape Survey
The state of NH is interested in hearing from parents and community members in addition to teachers and administrators, as they continue to assess and design mathematics education across the Granite State. For anyone who wants to take the survey, it takes only about five minutes and is located here. It is a good idea to provide feedback when the state asks so they can get a realistic picture of our community needs and what these programs look like in real-time for our students.
