Week 34
Dear MUMS community,
Yesterday our 8th graders walked over to MUHS for their "move up day". Students were greeted by Peer leaders, learned about the High school experience, engaged in community building activities and generally experienced a glimpse of what High School life is like! Thanks to MUHS for creating such an exciting morning!
Our rising 6th graders ascended upon MUMS at the same time our rising 9th graders left us for MUHS! Students began the important work of forming their new school community and meeting their new teachers. Additionally, they learned about what middle school life is all about and began to get acquainted with this new school footprint. It was wonderful to see so many new and excited faces and to witness our MUMS Peer Pals lead this new group through the morning. We are so excited to welcome all of our new students in August at orientation!
As you read this, our 8th graders are aboard beautiful busses on their way to Boston for a fun day in the city! Thank you so much to those of you helped fundraise, made or purchased goods for sale at dances and events, chaperoned school-wide fundraising events, or are chaperoning this trip! This is such a fun way for our 8th graders to celebrate their three years at MUMS and it would not be possible without all of you!
Next week we embark on our last five day week of the school year which doesn't seem possible. Please encourage your student to check in with their teachers about any missing work as the quarter begins to come to a close and have a great weekend.
Best,
Michaela Wisell ~ Principal

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!
7th graders had an opportunity to take center stage in a collaboration with Town Hall Theater and Courageous Stage last week! As part of their L&L unit, “The Play’s the Thing”, 7th graders are reading and interpreting Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. Working with Lindsay Pontius and several other professional actors and directors, our students participated in workshops to dramatically interpret and perform selected scenes from the play. Some students volunteered as actors, while others served as set pieces, costume designers, or dramaturgy interpreters. Back in the classroom, students are focusing on in-depth theme analysis with literary techniques. They are analyzing themes in “Macbeth”, and how these themes are applicable today. Students followed up with a self-reflection about their experience at the stage and how they interpreted the themes (for example, what does “guilt” look like when you are performing on stage?). They will finish up the unit with a text-based discussion in the MUMS outdoor classroom space. Special thanks to ACEF for funding our collaboration with Courageous Stage and making this opportunity possible!
💡Talk to your student: Talk about themes in the books they are reading or shows they are watching. What are the themes? How do these themes apply to their lives today?
Summer Camp
What: We are thrilled to announce that MUMS Summer Camp is returning in 2026. Each week will have a fun theme with games and activities that will help provide students with opportunities to work on skills in social and emotional learning. In addition, a licensed teacher will provide basic support in reading and IXL Math. Students do not need to commit to the full 4-week program in order to attend.
When: Mondays through Thursdays 10am-2pm. July 6th-July 30th
Where: Middlebury Union Middle School. (Please note that transportation will not be provided)
Cost: Absolutely Free. A free lunch and breakfast will be provided each day as well!
For additional information, please contact Dustin Hunt via email dhunt@acsdvt.org or by calling 802-382-1213. Here is the link to the Summer Camp Application. Applications are due by the end of the day on Friday June 12th.

Shoreham/Cornwall bus caveats
Please use the "button" above to preview our ACSD bus routes.
Also please note a few caveats that impact students who ride Cornwall or Shoreham buses home.
Cornwall and Shoreham buses do not come to MUMS at pick-up time. Students who ride those buses must take a shuttle from MUMS to MUHS to meet their bus.
Cornwall students use the Bridport bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Cornwall bus at the High school to ride home.
Shoreham students use the Weybridge bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Shoreham bus at the High school to ride home.
